Shinola Canfield Speedway 44mm

Love the design but have a mental block on spending 3k on a shinola. Someone convince me otherwise…

Why would you buy a Shinola when you could purchase a pretty sweet Spaghetti Scametti for that price.

·

No doubt it is well designed, cool dial and they always do well with leather, and a SW510? Nice. Now the but; 44 MM that is also 15+mm thick with a movement found in $1000 watches, or better designed $1500 watches? Nope.

·

Go for it, wow is beautiful

·

3k! There's some cool timex chronos that are really reminiscent of this sort of design. Although the Shinola watches I've seen irl look really good.

·

Maybe look for pre-owned?

Maybe look for pre-owned?

Definitely 🤣💯

·

Pre owned or go home, but that's my policy on any watch above £1000 heard of this brand but don't know the market on them, but I'm guessing or should be half the price or less pre, people Always say well I'm going to keep it forever though not about the money if someone is keeping a watch and not selling it doesn't matter that it's cheaper and 2nd hand in my opinion 🤣👌

·

$3K for a piece made around a third party calibre? Thank you but no.

Gorgeous colour combination, great dial and details. But the price tag is not nearly justified

·

The microbrand Maen is just releasing these days a new version of their Skymaster chronographs, powered by a manual SW510Bh top grade for €2k. I’m seeing the Shinola priced at €3.5k, so you’re looking at €1.5k extra for the Shinola name, design and the fact that it is the automatic version of the SW510. Probably the prices vary for the US in both cases but still the Maen is way less expensive.

·

I always liked the Shinola looks, but even their current automatic offering was hard to justify. I own three Shinolas, but I couldn't come up with a way to justify that chrono, unless you absolutely have to have wire lugs.

·

What is the movement a Selita ? No if it had a a Valjoux movement maybe, resale your not thinking about but you still should….

·

I can’t help but think “ you don’t know shit from shinola” a boot polish , to me NO cache but the looks of the watch . The name hmmmmm . Nice looking actual watch but the name just kills it for me .

·

Their best looking watch is 47mm. Good golly geez. I’m out.

The brand name just kills it for me, along with the price.

“Shinola” sounds derogatory, and like they tried to choose a name that sounded old/ familiar, but didn’t think it through.

All I can think of when I hear the name is the saying 'they can't tell sh#t from shinola' which was in reference to a brand of shoe polish. Not the mental image I'd want from a brand.

The only place I've seen Shinola watches was a Saks store which stocked them exclusively, which makes me think upscale fashion brand.

They actually are the Shinola boot polish company. Shinola went under and these guys bought it lock stock and barrel. So they are the new Shinola. They bought it because they wanted a classic name everyone knew. Seems kinda glib, but they do have wild designs. shrug

·

Great looking watch.

I like Shinola and own two, including the chronograph posted by @hienho. I tend to agree with the sentiment of the other posters though. You could find a better spec’d watch for the money, including on the preowned market. The Intra-matic comes to mind when I look at the Shinola you’re pondering. Like everyone says, buy what you like of course. Best of luck with whatever you choose.

·

Overpriced. Wow.

·

Shinola sounds like something 50”s greasers put in their hair.

·

The company is doing a lot of good to a city that needs the help, but there is really no horological history with Shinola. For the money you are about to spend I offer you an alternative suggestion and the next evolution in watch technology that rivals Seiko’s spring drive technology and coming from a company with plenty of horological history, innovation and invention, The Accutron Spaceview 2020.

The designs are good 👍🏼 we have a famous boot polish called Nugget. Would you want that on a watch though ? No so certain , I knew something of the story yes, and maybe a different font might improve the look on the dial . Cheers 🍻

I think the main draws of shinola watches are (a) their design language and (b) their status as a made in America watch. But they are overpriced. I encourage you to look into Jack mason watches (made in Dallas). They have a similar design language for a much more affordable price.

·

I agree with @tambar and others: the Shinola looks nice, but quite pricey and large. This 42mm Jack Mason Avigator looks pretty similar but is sadly not available (sorry, this picture doesn't do it justice). It's very well designed and made, and has a Meca-quartz movement, but thousands less than the Shinola. Very high quality and wonderful strap, too. There are other models available with great designs, too. Designed and some models assembled in US by some of the friendliest enthusiasts in the business.

Agreed...price is out of whack with the value.

I'll wait to see if any of these Shinola chronos hit the secondary market for about 40-50% discount. That would be about the right price.

For $2,000-3,000, you could have these instead...
