Hot take; Movado watches are cool

I know there's drama around them and that will never end I'm sure. I've come to the conclusion that I like Movado watches themselves, I just don't like Movado the company. I believe they have some strange business practices similar to big retailers like Macy's where they release something new and market it at an outlandish price, because just like all of us, they'd take more money over less.

However, if you wait for these newer styles to age a year or so, you can find them at much more reasonable prices through either their company website or through grey market dealers. I think that a $300 quartz watch with a Swiss movement and a sapphire crystal is a serious steal, and you don't quite get the look of Movado anywhere but Movado. (Of course there's similar options out there) If you buy them at the right time, I'd say they're absolutely worth it.

Movados are a style icon👌

You'll get no pushback from me. I've got a solid tungsten, integrated bracelet, quartz Movado that's like 4mm thick or something insane. The quartz movement is better decorated than half of the watches I own with display case backs. Movado is just fine by me.

I have the series 800 chronograph and love it.

Looks real sharp, nice piece

It could be successfully argued their most iconic watch turned them from a reputable watch maker to one of the largest replica brands ever. There is no denying their status, even with stolen heritage.

The original Vacheron G. Constantin-LeCoultre Watches (designed by Nathan George Horwitt).

Not that I condone the methods, but it seems to be that way for a lot of successful brands. I know it's not as close of an example, but you could argue that Rolex copied blancpain with their submariner, which is definitely a much more popular watch. Guess you can just get away with a lot more crazy stuff if you have a lot more money behind your name huh?

My first "real" watch, given to me by my wife shortly after our marriage in 1988. Even discounting it's sentimental value, I think it's a great watch.

I want to get a vintage one.

Different times. There were several brands making competing dive watches with similar spec demands at the time, so there was bound to be similarities, plus they were released within months of each other, simply with BP getting to the market first.

The museum watch on the other hand was straight up IP theft that they eventually had to pay for.

It was a watch I really wanted when I was young. Was able to buy one in my early 20s. Died two years later, but still was cool to me at the time.

We like what we like. It should be respected by all.

·

I love 'em. In fact I have two of them. Including this M125 Anniversary model.

They're not for me but I do appreciate their history and like that they focus on a very minimalist design. Interesting note, the word Movado is taken from the Esperanto language and means "always in motion."

·

I received a Movado as an engagement present from my in laws. It became my wedding watch so it’ll always have a spot in my collection. My parents also had a his and hers Movado. It was the go to luxury brand for Indian-Americans. I’d love to see them come back as a company.

I’ve owned some on the past.. bought them pretty cheap at that time. Sold them.

·

I love them, but not a big fan of the Museum Watch. However, all my friends that are not into the watch scene always say do you have a Movado. I noticed that it is the brand they associate with the best watch money can buy. I love their older watches, but they have an amazing horological history and for some reason don't get the credit they deserve on YouTube watch channels when they talk about great watches.

When I was first getting into watches and was looking to purchase a dress watch, I almost pulled the trigger on a Movado 1881 white dial. Saw them on the gray market for good prices. I did more research and eventually bought a Baume et Mercier Classima instead but I think Movados aren't as bad as enthusiasts give them a bad rap for. Certainly among the general public, the their watches are far better known and the brand is popular!

·

They are cool. I have 2 one black one gold and recently found out Steph Curry wears one sometimes

·

I have these two. The newer one on the left has a mind of its own. It runs when it wants too. I think it has a loose coil or one going bad. The vintage one took me a while to find. I wanted to find one I really liked. It runs perfectly. The movement is patina covered giving it a unique look. I wish that it had a display caseback so I could look at it from time to time.

If they would only reissue this exact one ... in 36mm please ...

When I think of Movado watches exactly 2 very different thoughts come to mind: the beautiful triple calendar moonphase watches that were far beyond my genuine financial reach when I was a new vintage timepiece collector and the ubiquitous quartz watches that were available for massively discounted prices. I did come across the odd museum watch with mechanical movements but they were also available for unrealistic asking prices.

That one's nice.

I have a Movado bold and it is cool! And I want the Vizio! There is room for it in my collection! 😎

·

And they make it difficult to open the back to change the battery. I can’t get a razor thin opener to pop the back open.
