Speedmaster

If you can only have one watch, what would it be? The Speedmaster is so versatile. Both sporty and dressy.

Vintage Rolex DJ 1603 in rose gold and steel)

But I won't be ever able to pick this one up, so Longines Spirit 37 champagne dial)

·

A Speedy might be my choice, too! But it's tough to think about such a situation 😮

·

Sub or Daytona.

·

Probably a Grand Seiko . . . darker dial . . . ideally with a GMT function (but not super necessary). My lifestyle doesn't demand super sporty, so I don't really need to go full sport/dive line.

·

One watch? 100m+ water resistance, lumed hands and a date. Probably an an Omega Aqua Terra.

I don’t own one and don’t plan on it, but it pretty much does it all.

·

I would just keep this one.

DateJust or Explorer.

·

I like the speedy too. It is my grail. But due to its 50m water resist, it can’t be the one and only.

·

Why? Because it's selling with the 50m WR.

·

I'm not saying you're wrong for wanting the 100m, but if the watch is selling with the 50m, why would Omega change what's not broke?

They obviously are not convinced the extra 50m of engineering will result in enough additional sales to warrant it.

·

I'd probably go with one of the following (provided we're talking about money I'd actually be willing to spend and not just wishful thinking):

  • Rolex Explorer (current iteration, I'm fine with both sizes)

  • Omega Globemaster

  • IWC Ingenieur (admittedly, I'm not sure I'd ever shell out 12k for it, but I'd be fine if it was the only watch I owned)

Frankly speaking plenty of cheaper watches will do fine for a "1 watch collection" - e.g. a BB58 or even a 20$ Casio.

·

Omega, for sure. If I have to choose one from my current collection, it would have to be Dad's Seamaster Chronograph, circa 1973-74. If I didn't have that, it would probably be my Aqua Terra, maybe my Planet Ocean. If it had to be something I don't currently own, the Speedmaster Professional.

·

Parek Philippe 3448 perpetual calendar in white gold. If it’s my only watch, I don’t have to be worried about constantly keeping the date set

·

If one watch only then I would go with Breitling Premier

It does look sporty and dressy at the same time, dial color looks IMO that it does match any outfit either it's sporty or suit or casual

·

You can place me in the Speedy camp. Don't own one, but if could have ONLY one for the rest of my life, the classic Speedmaster would be it!

·

I would pick a Sub but the Speedmaster would be a great choice. It looks good on any strap so it’s easy to dress up or down. Lack of decent WR would be a downfall.

·

I think the speedmaster 38 is a better contender as it’s more versatile in size, automatic and has a date complication + Chronograph. It’s also 100WR

·

Speedy is a great choice. I love mine. The new bracelet 👌. But I would go with my No Date Sub for the durability and water resistance.

·

Yup! I would join you on this. If all but one had to leave, the Speedy would stay.

·

If it’s only one watch, it’s got to be the standard sub (with date). It’s the prototypical watch. You ask someone that isn’t into watches to draw a watch, chances are it’ll come out looking like the sub. It’s both sporty and elegant enough to wear to formal occasions (by today’s sartorial standards).

Image

I have the no date sub, but that’s only because I rotate through other watches and wanted something that didn’t have a date. But if I had to have only one watch, the sub with date would be it. The one “do-everything” watch.

·

Based on what I own, this blue Cartier Santos. Super comfortable. 100m WR. Sporty on the bracelet, dressy on the leather. Great history. I don’t see very many of them. That’s my pick from my watchbox. Things I don’t have…probably a blue dial VC Overseas.

It would be my Rolex OP 41 both because it’s so comfortable and timeless looking but also because of sentimental reasons

·

I would personally take something more water resistant, like a seamaster.

A Sinn 104 (day/date, 200m WR, cheaper to service..) could be the answer.

A solar powered/auto time G-shock if I don't want to care at all.

·

Love this 😆
