Ridiculous Islander Rangemaster Prices on Ebay!

There are two Rangemasters listed for auction on ebay, along with some other buy it now listings, and the bidding is at $600 for one and $610 for the other! The lowest buy it now price is $875! Glad I ordered mine early!

p.s. I got #220!

Yeah, I saw one sold for $700. I ordered mine quickly figuring these would sell out fast. Mine is #43.

·

Imagine paying over retail for a Rolex/Tudor double homage with a youtubers logo on it.... For like $100-200 more you could get a used Sinn 556.

·

Oh, those parvenus. One of the bad things that came out with watch reviews. Youtube flippers. Sighs

·

Price listed does not necessarily imply sold at the price.

And perhaps more saliently, just because something is limited does not mean it deserves a value above its retail price.

·

Whilst I (kind of) understand why they made it limited, I don't know why they picked 500? 1,000 could have worked.

That is why I focused more on the two with actual bids on them. It seems at least two people are willing to pay $600 or more for a Rangemaster. 😂

I honestly don't trust those bids either.....Ebay has a lot of fake bids, bots and ultimately withdrawn bids.   I feel like a solid 40% of auctions I have run on the platform have the top bid withdrawn because someone doesn't actually want to buy it.

Then again, I can completely believe people bid something up for dumb reasons.

·

Has Marc waitlisted anybody yet? You might get special treatment based on previous buying history, or if you bought other brands. Your previous Seiko purchases may qualify you for a Rangemaster eventually. 😂

No hate to Marc or TGV, but this is becoming my most disliked watch of 2022.

Too late, it's already an icon. I'm sorry, I'm quite amused by this. Essentially a homage to a watch released by another brand becomes scarce, and watches are selling above MSRP on the grey market. There are definitely humorous aspects to this.😉

·

I am actually a bit bemused by just how many knickers have been twisted by this watch. 🤣

·

I still don't get the appeal of the Ranger's design, let alone this one.

·

Well anything is collectable tbh.. if the flippers are getting these inflated prices the customers buying them would say the same I guess.

Really? Even more than the MoonSwatch?

Why?

I am sorry, and I do realize it is completely subjective, but in a year when Richard Mille gave us this,

Hublot gave us this,

and Invicta gave us this,

you think this

is really one of the ugliest watches of the year? 😜

Point taken. I concede. There's no denying those watches are infinitely uglier.

As a matter of fact, the beauty of what you've done is actually show the TGV/Islander to be much more elegant by comparison.

I will retract my statement in full.

Put me in the category of those who don’t get why it sold out in the first place, let alone commands a higher price on secondary market.
Looks like a basic homage watch to me.  🤷‍♂️

Would suggest waiting a bit for those who want one.  Will be another release most likely, and more on the secondary market after several months.

The price may drop on the secondary market, but if the past is any indication, there will not be another release. Marc has not done that with past limited editions, and I don't believe he will do another run of this one either.

I don't get the huge fuss over this, and definitely would not pay over retail. Actually, I wouldn't pay retail either, since I feel it was slightly overpriced (3,6,9 gimmick?). I'm not a huge fan of limited editions, either, especially from a company like LIW. I mean, it's not even an original design. Don't get me wrong, I own three Islanders, and I like both Marc & TGV's channels. Both of them have things that annoy me a bit, but overall I enjoy their content. I think the timing wasn't great, having just released the 36mm Manhasset, and now the somewhat similar ( & sold out) LE 38mm Rangemaster. Honestly, I prefer the Manhasset over the Ranger homage, but 36mm might be just a little too small for me. If I feel the need for a watch like this, I'd just buy the ISL-54, and swap out the hands for a Ranger set from DLW.

I can see your point about the timing. I was tempted by the Manhasset, but I already have a Brookville. The big difference between the Rangemaster (Rangey? 🤣) and the Manhasset, beyond dial appearance, is the movement. The Rangemaster has a Miyota 9039 movement while the Manhasset has a Seiko NH movement. For me, this makes the price of the Rangemaster acceptable.

I totally understand. It's just a little higher than I'd be willing to pay, but that's everything these days. I haven't priced the Miyota Hi-(er) Beat 😂 movements individually, but I realize they are more expensive than the standard NH series. Two of my three Islanders have the 9015 (Brookville, also, and Northport), and while I feel it is a great fit on the dressier B'ville, I could take it or leave it on a tool watch. I would want a watch like the Rangemaster to be as tough as possible (like the proven 7S/4R/NH movements, with a long life between service/replacement intervals. Time will tell with the higher beat Miyotas. I know they're good movements, but will they outlast the Seikos? 🤷🏻‍♂️

·

Somebody has $600 to spend, and this is what they want... so what's the problem, exactly?  Some have $30k and want a bog-standard Rolex. The only reason to whine, in either case, would be that you want it, too.

Pick any price, and there are many, many thousands of watches to choose from  (eBay has >19,000 available at $450-$500.)   There's not a lot for a collector to complain about.

Yeah, I bought my Islander Rangemaster early and should get it next week. I thought about resale but some how the idea felt dishonesty in some way. Keeping it feels right and it looks a nice watch. Question is with such a valuable rarity should I wear it? Enjoy it?

·

Mate, you have got to be kidding me! I finally got mine and I love it but I wouldn't pay over $800 US for it! That's just rediculous. Mine is number 253.

I have to agree. I love it, but I am not sure I would have gone to even $399 for it.

I have been wearing mine 2-3 times a week since I got it with no issues. 😁

Not got mine yet. Stuck in customs being waved through. It does look very nice.... Check out the Islander Manhasset. Its my daily. I got a few weeks before this Rangemaster launched.. there are some superficial similarities...

Yes, I was looking at the Manhasset when it released, especially the black dial, which is very similar to the Rangemaster in appearance. I decided not to get one as I already had a Brookville and really wanted to wait for this collaboration between TGV and Marc.

I hope you get yours soon. I am really pleased with mine and am loving the 10mm thickness!
