My 35th birthday present to myself

About this time last year, I decided I wanted to get my first luxury watch. A watch I've wanted for years: the Omega Seamaster 300. James Bond is my favorite fictional character, where I grew up playing the N64 games at friend's houses, watched the movies on Spike TV around Christmas time, and read the books that I checked out from the local library.

I thought it would be a good 35th birthday present to get myself. I've been working a lot of overtime this past year, and I put half of the overtime earnings to a watch fund. I got an end of the year bonus, and half of that went to on my watch fund.

My main concern was the bezel: the 2541.80 comes with an aluminum bezel, which scratches easily. A lot of the more affordable options online were well loved and well used, but scratched bezels because of that.

I checked price listings, and found one on eBay that was below average, with a clean bezel. Somehow I won the auction. After taxes and eBay's authentication, the total was $20 more than my saved budget. I can live with that.

This watch is so much fun! I love the wave pattern on the dial. The seconds hand hits every mark perfectly. I have smaller wrists, at 6.5 inches in the winter and 6.75 inches in the summer. Despite having a lug-to-lug of 50m, it fits surprisingly well. It feels very dressy, despite being a dove watch. I am looking forward to enjoying it for years to come.

Congrats! Well deserved and hard earned!

·

Happy birthday sir! I'm established 1988 myself, so I know what you mean about N64 and goldeneye days. Great watch choice and reasoning for chasing it

·

Cheers! That's awesome and I grew up with goldeneye and am a bond fan myself which is why i love omega, good stuff!

·

Happy birthday and congrats!

·

Amazing! Enjoy!

·

Stunning! Love it. Happy birthday!

·

Solid. Wear well, you have earned it.

·

Happy birthday mate and welcome to the club I'm on the midsize version, roughly we have the same wrist size but I fancy watches below 39mm. Boy the goldeneye game was of a favorite of mine and my brother so I was so glad to acquire this piece as well.

I have one myself so, suffice to say, I approve!

It remains a model that's used as a style template to this day, but vitally it's slightly smaller than many modern divers, so it really dresses up well.

You will also find that the non-co-axial movement in these is WAY easier for any decent watchmaker to service, so they are very easy to maintain.

Wear it in good health. These watches are ace. The only downside is the bracelet. It's comfortable, but the lack of micro-adjust is problematic.

PS: Even if the bezel does wear, you can always do what I did: https://www.watchcrunch.com/complication/posts/rejuvenating-my-1999-omega-seamaster-300m-diver-27088

Congratulations!

Congratulations, this is going to be my retirement gift to myself.... unfortunately I have lots of time to save still!

·

Congrats! Many of the same reasons I got my SMP. Bond made watches cool for me. Those of us about a decade older can fondly remember “15 Days of 007” on TBS, which always fell around finals week.

·

Great watch! Happy birthday! 🎂🎉🥳

·

Congrats! Great choice.

·

Great choice and well deserved after all the overtime. It's a proper GADA put it on a NATO or Barton elite silicon strap and no one notices it, somehow becomes the ultimate stealth watch due to the size.

·

Congratulations. I've the exact watch since 2001 or 2002. Can't remember exactly but it's been ticking away till today. This series is better than the newer versions IMHO

·

Congrats! My grail watch, sigh…

·

Happy Birthday 🎂

·

Congratulations! I definitely have the same feelings about Mr. Bond. It was the first watch I ever really wanted. I have since removed the bracelet in favor of the OEM Rubber. Match made in heaven. Wear it in good health! Cheers!
