A One Brand Collection

If building a watch collection with one brand only, which brand do you go with and why?

Seiko for sure! Seiko has a lot of models/designs so you could experiment and enjoy much more your collection with that brand.

·

Seiko or Orient ... if forced put ... I enjoy my modest, multi-brand, quirky l'il collection too much to limit myself to a single brand though ...

·

SAY KOOOOOO...cause I can't afford anything else

·

Option 1: Lorier, Jack of All Trades

Good people, good designs, good versatility.

You could easily do a four watch collection consisting of a Diver (Neptune), a Field (Falcon), a GMT (Hyperion), and a Dress (Zephyr) for a price cheaper than one "luxury" watch.

Option 2: Helm, Tool Watches only

Best ISO rated divers for money period.

Dress Diver (Miyako), OG Tool (Vanuatu), Versatile Small (Komodo), Big Bold (Khuraburi).

This option would be cheapest over all at MSRP since your looking at under $1500.

Option 3 English Micro Elliot Brown

Three piece collection, Tool Extreme (Holton Pro), Dressy Sport (Tyneham), Original Design do everything (Beachmaster)

Seiko covers everything.

VC or ALS if money's no object.

·

Omega

because I'm a fanboi

·

i wonder if this is how celebrity brand ambassadors feel when they have to contemplate which brand they want to work with. it must feel so limiting to work with a brand that has a small and less varied line up.

what am i saying…they don’t care. they sold their watch souls for all the money in the world.

·

Luxury - Rolex

Micro - Farer

Mid/Affordable - Seiko

·

Seiko

The king of good designs at a good price

·

Omega, because I must have a Speedmaster.

·

Seiko, Omega or Tudor for me!

·

Vertex - vintage and new

·

Diversity is the spice of life, and is the thing that pushes the envelope on interesting. Why limit to only one brand? New, old, traditional, non-traditional, weird/cool tech, novelty…💪

·

Tudor

Hits just right between luxary and affordable.

·

Sinn, I just love their watches and its my favorite brand.

·

Impossible. But I'm going to throw Zenith in the ring. El Primero, obviously, but they also make some gorgeous pilot, integrated sport, and dress watches. You have all the heritage you could ask for. Even absolute banger pre-owned models can be had for decent prices. I've had great experiences with the ones I've owned. No one tries to chop your hand off to steal one or asks you how much you paid for it, but you always have the best watch nerd story to tell if someone is foolish enough to ask and kind enough to fake a smile for twenty minutes.

Rolex

Got to be Seiko right?

I mean they do a watch for every occasion. Loads of colours styles and shapes.

Could have a very diverse collection of nice watches all under one brand.

·

I would be torn between Seiko and Citizen. Both have a massive range of styles at different price points, all the way up to the luxury tier. But while Seiko might get the edge on pure aesthetics, Citizen offers more efficient utility (Eco Drive) and better build-qaulity/money. A tough call!

But sometimes I want something truly unusual and/or gorgeous, so Zelos and Christopher Ward deserve mention as well. Smaller range and narrower pricing band, but still many types available, with fantastic design and finishing. The only thing holding me back is that sometimes you need a less fancy piece for chores, etc.

Yeah, I'm not great at these sorts of prompts!

I'm going with Citizen, for two reason. One, they make great watches. Two, I don't think they've be mentioned yet, so I'll be a contrarian.

They make their own movements - both mechanical and quartz. Their top-tier quartz movements are more accurate than even what Grand Seiko offers. And their Eco-Drive movements are robust and affordable.

They have a great history and pedigree. The company was among the first to sell a titanium cased watch and were the first to offer a quartz watch that could be set for accuracy via radio waves.

They have a solid collection with a wide variety of options - be it dress, dive, tool or watch you can wear for any occasion.

Sure Citizen is not the most glamorous watch brand out there, but they are among the most innovative and interesting.

People really do look past Citizen too often!

Luxury = Patek or Vacheron Constantine because they hold value

Everyday Wear = Toss Up again Omega or Grand Seiko

Budget = Casio = so many options from GShock to JDM Oceanus So cool and they use Titanium like it's easy n simple to craft a watch out of

My Oceanus is no contest one of my favorite pieces. Ridiculous materials/tech for the price, and a joy to look at.

Also, unlike Seiko and Omega (both perfectly fine choices), modern Zenith offers a number of watches that are actually thin, along with the appropriate chonkers.

Seiko or Tudor

Thought about buying an Oceanus for a three week trip Wish I had picked one up

·

Current budget = Seiko

Realistically doable in the near future = Oris

·

Unlimited fundage. Seiko. Sorted.

I’d be tempted by Omega and Longines, but for sheer diversity, I think I’d go for Hamilton. It’s the only brand I already have more than one of, and probably the one with the most models that tweak my curiosity.

So I already have a KFM and the now deleted black/orange Air Race. To that I would add a ceramic navy scuba (torn between the green or white dial), a PSR, a 38mm Murph, a green faced titanium KFA, an Intramatic chronograph H, and one of the difficult to choose between pioneer aviators. Later, one of the other aviators with the stylised B dial and the unique handset, but wait them out for one without day/date. Then I’ve got Jazzmaster/Boulton/Intramatic/ Spirit of Liberty to choose from if I want a dress watch, and “out there” choices like Ventura or Below Zero. Just seen the new higher spec Frogman……

Yes, I really think I could do that.

I haven't read the many comments above yet, but there's one "one brand" chap I recommend chiming in... @TimexBadger. I greatly appreciate his view on his dominantly one-brand approach, and the many lessons he has learned, and is learning still, to date. We can learn much from his experience all these years, and many will appreciate the private showroom he has created for himself. 💪

Thanks Brother! Haven't been around here for a bit, but thank you for the kind words!!

Thanks to @hakki501 for bringing this topic to my attention. I wanted the brand to be an extension of who I was or who I saw myself as so I went with Timex. Growing up where the men in my family wore them because they were known for lasting and affordability. I had such great memories of their commercials and just loved all the memories they evoked in me. My Timex collection took on a life of its own and in the process learned that the Timex of yesteryear is not the the Timex of today. I feel fortunate enough to find them during their renaissance to fit in with today's watch collectors and the role they played in this country and others for 169 years. I was also very surprised how many watch enthusiast looked down on the brand with such a rich history in affordable horology. That made my mind up, I was going to become a Timex only collector. I now have over 100 Timex watches and have also dedicated my home office into a mini Timex museum which I enjoyed collecting old display cases from stores long gone as much as I enjoyed collecting their watches. The family and friends who came to the museum really loved it and enjoyed the memories of such a storied brand. I am having issues downloading pics to my PC, so the museum is much bigger and grander now with twice as many artifacts of stores long gone. I believe I have pics elsewhere on this site. When I fix my computer issues, I will post the updated pics of the museum and one day do a STOC of my 100 plus Timex watches. For now enjoy and Thank you!
