YouTube watch channels I can't stand

YouTube for me is a source of entertainment and I enjoy a good show. Sadly, there are plenty of channels that I don't watch because I can't stand the YT personality that runs the show. Being a terrible person I even classified my dislikes:

Image

The used car salesman

I don't like to be shouted at. These are the YT personalities that speak too loud and too fast, they are unnecessary argumentative and too much in my face. They get the ax.

Image

The tour guide

I'm here for the watches, not for looking at you from the other side of a selfie stick while you go about your business and discuss your life decisions. You get the ax.

Image

The wallpaper flower

For the love of God, how difficult can it be to adjust your volume or invest in a better microphone? I'm done playing silent service and I don't want to turn the CC on so you get the ax.

Image

The muppet show

Honestly, watching two hands roaming across the screen while listening to a disembodied voice is creepy. You get the ax.

Image

The lazy bastard

Do you like reviewers that do nothing more than regurgitating press releases or reading the manufacturer's spec sheets? I don't and neither should you. A quick trick to spot them is finding if they reviewed the Seiko SPB143 and listen to what they say about the thickness because the number stated on Seiko web site is pure fiction. I have no need for a reviewer that can't be bothered to use calipers so you get the ax.

I respect that about you.

To be fair there are a number of YT reviewers that I like watching. Jody from JOMW has an excellent presentation style. TGV is very smooth in front of the camera. Ben from Ben's watch club is hilarious, Peter Kotsa, IDGuy and YoureTerrific are all liked and a treat to follow, to name just a few.

You sound like just my kind of person. Interested in coming to the London Meetup? 😆

Isn't Peter Kotsa 'The Muppet show'? Though he does have a good voice, so maybe he gets a pass.

Ben is pretty hilarious, but I like him because he reviews watches regardless how of obscure the brand may be. I'm sure if something was dropped in his mail slot in the middle of the night, he'd still review it. 😉

He does get a pass because of his voice and I still hope he will redeem himself like IDGuy did this year.

That's true, and I admire him for publishing his video on the review for pay business.

But TGV also has his T-Rex muppet...? 😜

Funny categories and there's a lot of truth in there!

Like anything, the watch YouTubers that I've been exposed to have their strengths and weaknesses. I think Nico Leonard yells and curses too much, but he can be funny at times and is a definite Rolex and AP aficionado and expert. Teddy B's and Mark from Long Island Watch have videos that really teach me a lot about watches and the watch industry as a newer enthusiast and Teddy's videos feel very polished. The Mad Watch Collector is hilarious and puts a lot of heart in his videos. Random Rob is down to earth and presents affordable watches, but sometimes I find his videos a tad bit dull. Jody from JOMW seems like a great guy and I like his style, but he covers Seiko a little too much at the expense of other brands (same criticism for Random Rob). WatchChris and Dave from Just the Watch cover a lot of micros that I otherwise would never be exposed to, but they might be a little too positive. I like the banter and perspectives of About Effing Time, but sometimes I feel like I'm being pushed to purchase a Bamford watch or consume Bark and Jack and Time + Tide. I could go on and on...but I won't.

In general, I enjoy learning and being entertained. I find value in most of the watch YouTubers and each bring their own expertise and flair. Plus is I find a certain personality doesn't scratch my watch itch, I just move on.

Archie Bunker is alive and well!!  lol

It sounds like you are YouTube's version of the guy who yells at the kids to get off his lawn.  lmao.  lol.  Just having fun, but man, you are hard to please.  lol

·

My brother from another mother🤝!!! Ben is definitely a favorite, just had to refer to his Spaghetti Scametti recently in a post. JOMW has that Steve Irwin statue on top the bookcase and ummmm...I kinda want it.

That was a good grind, sir, I enjoyed.

Archie Bunker!!! Signpost for the aged and aging. My late 20s kids have no idea who this is (they also don't know Bob Hope, Carson, etc. but they love Lucy).

I hear you, that generation missed some amazing iconic shows.  All in The Family never gets old to me!!  I miss all of those.  Sometimes I watch old Carson shows and I remember just how great that time was.

😂the puppet show….*cough, cough [Watchfinder], cough, cough**

sorry, had something in my throat there….😏

Andrew Morgan's Talking Hands channel where he does separate content from Watchfinder is brilliant. The podcast format he does on Watchfinder with Trevor are really clever. That and their into music is the fanfare for the Marine's Hymn which I have a close connection to. This video discusses his regret about not doing face on videos.

My favourite reviewer is Watch Alot, mainly because he is a thoroughly nice bloke, and has a wealth of knowledge

·

Some of my favorites include The Mad Watch Collector (of course!), Ben's Watch Club, JOMW, Just the Watch, Relative Time, and The Urban Gentry. I also like Long Island Watch for information.

One I used to watch but no longer do is The Time Teller. I think he has changed a lot over the years, and not in a positive way. He has become much more negative, angry, and far too strident for my taste. A shame, as I liked his content.

·

On a serious note, Times Ticking is really good and it sounds like it will be right up your ally.  Just the facts Ma'am

·

This post made me laugh. Really well done!

My YT favorites are Teddy Baldossare and for the affordable segment it is Just the Watch.

·

Well, here's the Little List...

  • The Urban Gentry. The guy has basically built a YouTube shrine to himself. A made-up coat of arms on coffee mugs and signet rings... Basically, feels like narcissism 101. The veneer is really, really annoying. On top of that, he's staggeringly incompetent with vintage. I mean, blab all about modern, but with vintage, trying to play the authority while not having the necessary knowledge is a serious disservice that can cost people their hard-earned money...and it often does.
  • The Time Teller. I just can't stand this guy's attitude. Just, no. I watched one or two of his videos. Or, tried to watch them sounds more like it, I couldn't finish watching them. And my attempts at doing so were time that I could have spent way better - on making a sandwich, putting the kettle on, or just staring at my cat washing himself.
  • ArchieLuxury. Another poser, who mostly dwells on his hates, which he can't even really back with any proper technical argumentation.
  • Theo & Harris. The people there have more luck than brains, I've repeatedly seen them being unable to provide basic info on perfectly researchable vintage watches by well-documented brands. I mean, it's stuff that only takes asking Uncle Google the right questions, and they don't even try. Then there's stuff like Christian letting his dad just wear a watch that someone has already bought. If it's been paid for, it's not his to joyride anymore! He also made lengthy "reviews" of watches just after the press releases, while not having held them in the metal. Some "reviews," jeez Louise...
  • Nico Leonard. Man, stop yelling... Being good at clickbaiting doesn't exactly mean someone's a watch expert, means they're a clickbait expert. I wouldn't know if he's a watch expert as well, I can't stand the man's constant yelling long enough to judge if he is. Also, "watch expert reacts to...,""watch expert comments on..." When someone refers to themselves as an expert, I found that more often than not their opinion of themselves is way too high. And...man, stop yelling.
·

Of all the dislikes the one that stand for me the most is the used car salesman type. Nico Leonard is a prime example, but The Time Teller and Adrian Barker are running close in second and third.

I actually really like it. I watch his videos all the time but I have to agree with the poster that the talking hands was a strange format choice. I wish him continued success. I think he does great things for the enthusiast community

·

This is legendary, I'm feeling I am a used Honda sales man from the 1980's. The sadness is actually quite overwhelming 😂

Jokes aside, your descriptions are epic.

You got my respect, not gonna lie!

·

i like youtubers with a deep and/or calm voice, but nothing against Nico, he's a fun dude.

The one i don't like is a time teller. Cant stand.

·

I hate the lifestyle watch dealer videos. Honestly I don't care if you just bought a new Lamborghini or Ferrari or are sunbathing on your yacht.

Next you are going to tell us that you also don't believe that wearing a watch will make you incredibly attractive. or that people will stop you on the street, the elevator, in your bedroom and everywhere to compliment you on your watch.

How can we run a decent business with people like you?

·

You brought up some good ones! I also dislike being shouted at, a portion of YouTube watch personalities do this. Ironic since watchery is basically an introverted hobby. I also dislike unboxing videos, I fast forward until I see the first money shot. What a waste of bandwidth when you turn a potentially four to five minute segment into the director's cut of "Gone With The Wind".
