Oooo shiny..., sorry what were you saying?

Looking at how shiny the Ahoi is I get the impression that someone at Nomos has a very serious Brasso fetish.

There isn't a single side or facet of the case that was not polished to king's guards inspection level and it's saving grace is that it's too slim to be mistaken for a section of chromed tube.

It's not terrible, but I wish that it had a bit more variety as it's the least interesting thing on the Ahoi. The dial looks delicious like a forbidden candy, but the case shape and finish are too simple for a watch in this price bracket.

Evidently, this is only my opinion and I'm sure that the Bauhaus party is on its way to explain that keeping it simple is what it's all about.

Except that Nomos are not making Bauhaus watches. Especially not when they are so careful with the words they use on their website to create plausible deniability, and while the case may look a bit on the cheap side, the sales price is anything but cheap. Therefore the basic idea of Bauhaus to create affordable goods through mass production and the simplification of designs is simply not there.

I don't regret the purchase, but I also don't recommended buying it new at full RSP. However if like me you manage to snag a pristine exemplar on the second hand market, which is where the steep depreciation brings them to their real value, then yes - by all means do get one because Brasso aside these are cracking watches.

If I’d buy another nomos my choice would be an ahoi. As usual the color pops, just great to look at with a movement to match. 👏

I drool over them, but the length of the lugs makes it a no.

You have the strangest relationship with this watch. And yes, almost nobody should buy watches at RSP outside of a few specific brands.

The case diameter is 36mm therefore the lug's length isn't an issue. What is however a bit weird is their bizarre shape and location on the case, I can live with it (obviously) but it may not be something that other prospective buyer will appreciate.

It's not an outlier as there are other watches in my collection toward which I have an ambivalent attitude.

But this is exactly why I keep them, because of their perceived flaws which makes them more interesting.

I love shiny things. And sparkly things too. Give me a polished case any day. 👍

I do own a couple of Vostok Amphibia that are very shiny and I like them a lot.

That's interesting to see you say this. I don't think any of my watches are perfect, though some are closer to others, but I don't think I have any or would keep any watch where I felt similarly to you.

I don't think that I have the impression that I don't like it because I do. I just think that it could have been much better with very little effort from Nomos.
