Surprise Explorer

I’ve been stalking the 114270 for a long time.

And today my family surprised me with this mint example from 2005 (a couple years before the rolexrolexrolex rehaut) box papers. To me this is the sweet spot for Rolex. Unbelievable that a 19 year old watch can still exist in this condition. I’m blown away…

That’s an amazing gift. I would be lost for words if I were gifted an Explorer. And it’s even more amazing that they found a full set in minute condition from 19 years ago. Enjoy it and wear it!

I’m a 124270 guy, but the older references certainly aren’t slouches. What drew you to this specific reference?

Thanks! I there was definitely a tab open that somebody noticed after they heard me needing out.

I like that the parts for the movement are more serviceable from local watchmakers and less proprietary and honestly I like the old thin clasps. The new ones are good too. I have a modern sub and the glide lock is awesome but it’s a lot of bracelet for me personally.

Interesting. I haven’t heard this point before. Where did you hear that? Is it because the movement was around for a long time?

I like the overall “this is the latest and best version of the Explorer”-ness of the 124270. I Like that has the full suite of all the current Rolex advancements and catching up with the rotor (for a regular wristwatch); the new, elegantified Oyster bracelet; and the improvement cosmetics and legibility of the new dial.

I like the thin clasp in my aftermarket jubilee I got for my guinea pig Vostok. It one of the most comfortable clasps I own. In general I like light bracelets. They have their own kind of comfort. The can feel kinda like a sweater cuff. But

I also appreciate the sturdiness of an all-solid and machine

That is on spectacular condition and what a gift to get from the family! Congratulations

Awesome!
