Other James Bonds: what would these other fictional spies wear on their wrist?

Yes yes, we all know (and love?) that the Omega Seamaster has been the modern day watch of choice for James Bond. And before that it was Rolex and their iconic Submariner. And quite honestly I can’t picture it any other way. I mean, other than Omega and Rolex, I simply can’t picture James Bond wearing any other brands. I also can’t imagine Omega ever giving up the sponsorship for Bond, so that’s pretty much a lock.

But that got me thinking, “what watch would these other fictional spies wear?” Comment below and give your thoughts on what each of these fictional spies would (or should) wear.

Jason Bourne

Ethan Hunt from Mission Impossible

Jack Ryan from the Tom Clancy series of books and movies (keep in mind there have been various incarnations of the character portrayed by 5 different actors)

Jack Bauer from the TV show 24

Austin Powers

Sterling Archer from the animated TV show Archer

Jason Bourne wore a Tag I believe.

·

IMHO they should all be wearing true spyware.. an Apple Watch.

·

I only know the last two. Powers seems like a Richard Mille man. Archer is more Longines, maybe a Calatrava if he's not paying for it.

·

Bond also wore a  Seiko M354 5019 model SFX003 Memory-Bank Calendar  in Moonraker.

Ethan Hunt, G Shock. When your kicking the crap out of someone or their beating the crap out of you the last thing you want on your wrist is your Omega, Rolex, Tag etc....lol

Cheers!

Ethan Hunt famously wore Tudor.  Jack Ryan wore a Hamilton. Archer screams JLC.

For Jack Ryan, he is an analyst. He wasn't rich, and he needs the information, and so he would have started out with a Casio F-91W. Something simple that will give him the information he needs. After he gets married, and as he moves up in CIA, his wife, a medical doctor from a wealthy family, would have gifted him a JLC Reverso - since Jack Ryan travels a lot, and he has a lot of important meetings with very high level government officials. My thought on why the John Krasinski version Jack Ryan wears a Hamilton: As he is now a field agent for CIA, he probably wanted to move on from something too "cheap" in a Casio F-91W to a Hamilton Khaki Field Auto. This isn't something that will break the bank, but this is a tough watch that can be dressed up if necessary. In Clear and Present Danger, he is shown wearing a dress watch with his suit, but I can't tell what it is. Who knows, maybe he becomes a watch collector somewhere in the middle and wears a different watch for every mission.

There can be only one:

A square G-Shock.

Austin Powers = Crash (groovy baby ✌️)

·

Austin would wear Avia or Lanco on his downtime, and in the sixties. He would also have a Rolex, but it would turn out to be ‘A Jekyll baby, my dad gave it me.’
That’s what people wore where he was from.
I should probably check what he actually wore in the films tbh.

·

other than Omega and Rolex, I simply can’t picture James Bond wearing any other brands.

but in the movies he’s worn Gruen, Seiko, and Tag Heuer. You don’t have to picture it, it’s there.

·

If they only had to wear 1 watch I believe it has to be a G-shock square.

·

Austin Powers would wear a Snoopy Timex.

And a Breitling I believe. Watch was a custom job and a plot point, and I think the prop turned up at a car boot sale or market somewhere.

Roger Moore wore a Seiko Tuna in For your eyes only

Whichever company that comes up with the money will see their watch on the hero's wrist. It's not about style or content. If you see any other logos in a movie someone paid them to put it there.

·

What about Johnny English? 😀

Actually, Jack Ryan was a former trader and was wealthy. His wife also is a renowned eye surgeon and brings home a fair amount.

Ethan hawk wore g shock in 3 movies. I think that's pretty definitive.

What is interesting about the Omega in Goldeneye, however, the decision was made that Bond should have an Omega watch before the deal was inked. As I recall, the wardrobe person, or whoever was making the call, thought about all the naval men who used to visit her father when she was a child - and they all wore Omega, so she thought it was appropriate. Then they did the deal.

·

In the most important spy movie of our time, Threat Level Midnight, Michael Scarn, the main character, wears a Timex Perpetual Calendar. Although, we’re not told whether this was the decision of the movie or the actor portraying Michael Scarn, Michael Scott.

·

Agent 86, aka Maxwell Smart, used a smart watch of course!

I believe in the novels he did wear a Rolex (see screenshot) and Ian Fleming himself wore an explorer 1016.
