The daily beater?

Hi all, as someone who has many watches (mostly the MoonSwatch’s) I am looking for a daily beater. Therefore can’t be too expensive (preferably below £2k), can be dressed up with my many different watch straps as and when needed, pleasing on the wrist (and of course eye).

I don’t have a dive watch in my collection so was tempted by the Steinhart or even tvr CW ranges however one of the watches on my want list is a Tudor Submariner which are pricey but beautiful.

Wouldn’t mind a chrono but aside from the gym and playing footie not really required and the tell you the truth the MoonSwatch’s do me well in the gym.

Love the AP Royal Oak and the PP Nautelis but they are crazy prices

Essentially a decent Swiss made with easy to buy aftermarket straps for.

What are your daily beaters? Which do you consider to be a bit too nice to take a daily beating wear on occasions?

My beaters are Timex and Casio related, but not necessarily for daily wear. My Hamilton Khaki Field could be a daily beater but it’s too nice to me for it to serve as that.

Seiko 5 Sport. Casio Duro.

If you’re dead set it has to be Swiss, I’d go Glycine, as I did. I don’t think you can get an automatic in this case Selita movement, with sapphire and Swiss Made on the dial for less.

2,000 Pounds is a good chunk of change so there are tons of choices. If you like the Nautilus and Royal Oak maybe you’d like the Tissot PRX. It’s also an integrated bracelet, extremely popular and some other similarities and way under your budget. But integrated bracelets don’t allow strap changes.

Divers are the most popular type of watch among collectors and since you don’t have one that may be a good choice. Your budget allows you to hit a big brand so no need to take a chance with micro brand. Divers are built to take some hard knocks and so many out there so have fun looking.

I don’t see you budget and a beater as being compatible My beater is a $36 Timex Weekender. Not terribly tough but at that price who cares.

2K pounds would be high-end watch territory AFAIAC!! 😮

Beater territory on the other hand would be a $35-40 resin-cased Timex Expedition 😀

·

CW 12 is well below 2k. Lorier or Baltic have nice divers or other very wearable watches.

·

Baumé and Mercier has an integrated bracelet that seems cool, CW the 12.

2K for a beater?

·

G Shock is an easy choice. Something durable but a little more elegant?

This new offering from Mido. About 1.5k or Formex Reef, which, sadly, is close to 2k.

For a daily watch I love this one: https://eur.farer.com/products/palmer

Timex expedition field chrono or Casio MRW200 are decent beaters. Both under $50. With a 2K budget, you could get replacements 'till the cows come home. 😉

·

I would look into Baltic, Lorier, CW & Traska. Lorier has some great watches like the Neptune, Falcon, Gemini & Hyperion. CW also has some god options at a slightly higher price point. Love the new CW 12. If you can handle something that’s not “Swiss made” I’d advise you at least take a look at Traska. They have some great designs with cool dial colors and an extremely durable case and bracelet.

Why do you need a daily beater? Just wear what you like when you like. If you are doing something rigorous, adjust your watch selection accordingly. If you are going to the office, wear a nice watch. Enjoy all that you have.

Remeber, the best way to enjoy a watch is to wear a watch. 😀

My GADA watch is the CW C63 Sealander. The watch was about C$1K.

I believe is a watch that you can dress it up or down.

With a budget of £2K you can get a C60 Trident Pro 300.

Here the Sealander with Croc with orange stitching.

However you can have it with stitching as well.

And below on FKM rubber with white stitching. I took it to the pool and had no problems.

Vaer's D7 line sounds like it's up your alley

I saw a young guy installing a light fixture in a pizza eatery a few years ago, chatted briefly and recorded his info on my mobile, he is a 3rd generation electrician, inherited the company from his dad. The day arrives when he shows up to price a small installation for me wearing a gold and steel Rolex Sub, tells me that he also owns a Breitling Navitimer as well as a few other pieces. Guy is good but in future looking for a G-Shock contractor.

The G-Shock contractor might charge you more. He could be saving up for the Rolex or the Breitling he doesn't have yet.

·

Hamilton Khaki Field automatic. It’s a no brainer. Starts around $500, but you can get titanium and other versions (Murph) for $1000.

·

If you are willing to settle for a Swiss movement, there are numerous microbrands using Swiss movements. One option would be Vaer; they have watches with Swiss movements; check out the Meridian G7. The Islander Republic is a Swiss GMT that is pretty robust, for another option.

Look u are probably correct. We need to take some risks in life!

As a warehouse beater, my Casioak has outlived quite a few others!

For me "daily" and "beater" aren't the the same, though both I prefer to be in the affordable range.

For daily I want comfortable versatile and convenient, hence my casio and pagani for work and weekdays

For beater I want more rugged, water proof to survive whatever I'm doing, so I have an invicta pro diver. (Far flashier than what I'd wear as a daily)

·

I generally default to either my Casioak, or my Orient Kamasu. Both are built like tanks and I have forgotten to take them off and gotten in the shower with no bad effects. They are both also very reasonably priced, so if disaster strikes you are not out a small fortune. (Though I have to say I now harbor quite a sentimental attachment to both)
