Apple Vision Pro: What would you get instead?

Not many crunchers are a fan of the Apple Vision Pro. What would you get instead for $3499 USD?

-------------------

This is how my life is going to be like if I get it. Here are some of my photoshops:

Walking around with that thing on your head in public has to be the dumbest shit I have ever seen in my entire life.

Wait. @casiodean, that’s not a Casio~

·

I’d like to have one, but it’s on the list of toys I don’t need.

You don’t walk around with it on your head in public it’s something you use at the computer you don’t walk around with a oculus on your face in public either

·

I would spend a little more and get a glasshutte panorama , this thing is going to breed a nation of mondo zombies, not that they haven't succeeded already with these dratted phones

·

A watch…….

If I spent $3499 on a headset, I’d make sure everyone sees me wearing it in public. 😂

Agreed. But right now it seems as if peeps who have them, wish to flex the fact they have them, thus they are wearing them all over the place.

·

For $3500 I can make a huge list if things I'd rather have. Apple =👎

Just wait till the "Vision-Rippers" are a thing....

Saw this and am thinking someone is about to make a lot of $$ to those with no common sense.

For that much money, I'll buy a used motorcycle and a good few meals at a nice place. That much money will easily be able to get me a well taken care of BMW R100 from the '70s with money left over for the most luxurious of restaurants.

I could also put the money into an investment account for my nonexistent child's university.

I don't see the appeal of such vulgar wearable tech. A smartwatch isn't bad, but no one looks at someone walking through the street with a pair of gigantic goggles on and says "ah, yes! Natural selection at its finest. I must reproduce with this individual!"

I want to get rid of as much tech in my life as I can. I'm tired of being connected.

Never seen that. That's like wearing an Oculus on the street,

·
UnholiestJedi

And I've seen more than one vid of people using them while the Tesla drives for them

Yup. That's almost Minority Report levels of woa, weird.

So they can snatch that instead of your Submariner?

·

I dunno, are there any $3500 Grand Seikos? I don't actively the Apple Vision, but I'm not very fond of the VR/MR/AR tech as a whole.

Okay, all joking aside...

  • When it comes to the history of technology adoption, one industry is always at the forefront and this industry always seems to find the killer app

  • For example, there's a reason VHS won out over the Betamax standard

  • Streaming video is another example of a technology wherein this industry helped to ensure adoption rates much quicker than had been anticipated

  • The list goes on and on and on...

  • I can guarantee that if this industry were allowed to develop apps for the Apple Vision Pro, the headset would be an overnight screaming success!

Unfortunately for Apple, this is a particular industry they've banned from the App Store!!!

This is a commonly heard myth, but the horizontal sport industry was not the reason for adopting VHS. It's much simpler: VHS offered a longer record and play time that enabled its users to record shows lasting for more than 45 minutes and it did so with an image quality that was comparable to consumer BETAMAX (the pro BETA was a different animal altogether), using a cassette that was only slightly larger.

I can see the usefulness of such a device where augmented reality is beneficial, like overlaying schematics or pointing to faults during maintenance or the repair of equipment for example.

But walking outside with this thing on my face while I'm doing a grocery run? I'd rather spent this kind of money on women of negotiable virtue, restaurants and HiFi audio equipment.

First of all...

Dude, I seriously CANNOT WAIT to walk around town with something like this on my face. I want virtual reality to be so good that it will filter out everyone who I hate - 99% of people. Like, imagine if the headset points to all the people who would otherwise piss you off, and simply erases them from your vision!!! How amazing would that be??? Instead of seeing these horrifying, disgusting people, maybe the headset shows you cute kittens instead?

I can appreciate your valiant attempts at rationalizing a purchase of "yet another stupid idea from the church of Jobs that will still sell despite its awfulness", but I can't stop thinking that this is much better:

I kinda think smart glasses might give us that potential. Visors are meant more to be used at home, where I do not risk crashing against a car while walking.

By the way, I'd buy a Nomos Glashutte Orion (bonus points if it is the limited edition for the anniversary of the company) ✌🏻

·
swordinthestone

I don't understand why the product is so big and clunky. I mean Google released Google Glass in 2014 and it looked like a pair of thin bifocals. You'd think in 10 years they would have a VR device even thinner and less noticable.

Google glass didn’t have modern a.i technology. Neural networks require a graphics chip for its calculations. Therefore, they had to make it thicker.

Never thought of that until now. Man, boggie men ruins it everytime.

I think it only has 2 hours of battery life. So for me, i would leave the thing in the car for a grocery run.

I think the most useful usecase scenario for me would be when im sitting in my car in the parking lot (waiting for my wife or daughter.)

What if Taylor Swift suddenly walks past you, and you mistakenly took her as a kitten 😂

Geeezzz, where the hell are we going….

I'll still take the kitten. Nothing beats a kitten, except maybe two kittens.

Pretty much on the button what I paid for this, used, 3 years ago.

Can't see this depreciating as much as built-in obsolece apple shite 😂😂
