My Controversial Love for Invicta

I own 10 Invicta watches. Crazy I know, but stick with me.

Invicta was the easiest brand to get into as a lot of their watches were on sale at TJ Maxx’s. As time went of I collected the more normal styled Invicta watches. I spent time searching their online catalog and I was shocked. Don’t get me wrong, 99% of the catalog is horrendous BUT they do make decent styles at relatively affordable prices. Their vintage collection can be anything from a nice dress watch to a more relaxed daily tank.

I wear my Invicta’s when I’m in uniform. If it gets scratched it doesn’t bother me nearly as much as my Tag or Rolex. I emplore you all to give them a fighting chance.

I agree with your statement. I believe watches are with art and what people like is highly subjective.

Hopefully this opinion about Invicta watches changes.

Yes, some of the catalogue is absolutely horrendous, but some are classy designs and great value for money.

Hopefully the company changes and start re-releasing some past models.

Agree that the gaudy ones aren’t for mainstream tastes but I think Invicta are pretty good value.

I bought one mainly so I could form my own opinion rather than just having a received opinion.

And I have the blue pro diver with the Pepsi bezel (ref 5053 stock pic below) which I really like (apart from the cyclops, which is a general thing for me not an Invicta thing, and the “Invicta” etched on the side of the case). Definitely it was great value, is better made than I was expecting and has a solid Seiko NH35 running well.

I think their pricing is probably the thing that deserves most mockery (RRP$1000 but to you $100) but there are others just as bad and once you know it’s a game you know.

I keep an eye out for their vintage watches (stock pic further below) as these are just as well made as many others from the periods but have yet to buy one.

Unfortunately TKMaxx near me only ever has fashion watches so not had any good pick ups from their.

So enjoy your Invictas!

That bottom one is stunning. I gotta get one.

Got this 25ish years ago. Wish they went back to their pre Lupah approach to design.

Invicta is 68 years older than Rolex

Invicta is older than:

Rolex, Cartier, Omega, Audemars Piguet, Patek Phillipe (by 2 years!), Breitling, IWC ...

How's that for legacy? 😂 Take that rich people

·

Awesome! Which 10 do you own? Please share if you’re able too.

·

I love mine..... #custodesspecial , and yes it's on the garish side of the house, but I looked for awhile for it and love it, for EXACTLY what it is. A crazy gold skull, that looks like something out of Warhammer40K's wild universe 😆.

I too also wear it in uniform..in fact it'll be my pick for #1wc 😆.

Thanks for your service btws! 🍻

There are Invicta models that are by definition over size

I understand the design and special part of them, but there are some that are very heavy.

My friend has a 50mm watch that wearing it feels like working out in the gym..

Despite the deliberately exaggerated size, the watches do not look like a bulky and uncomfortable watch, but are designed and special

Have you gone on their cruise yet?

No it's not. The modern Invicta was bought in the 1990's after being dormant since the early 1980's. The NAME goes way back but the current company does not. The modern company in no way resembles the original.

Just to put the record straight. Don't buy their hype.

BTW, all the TJ Maxx's by me still get Invicta as well as Citizen and Bulova in addition to fashion watches like Fossil. I just bought a pait of Rally A1's (Monaco homage) about two months ago from a Maxx. Can't say about your area but here they are still in abundance. Maybe not the model you want but that is why you have to continuosly shop TJ and be ready to grab those rare models. 😀

·

I like some of the older and smaller invictas

·

I love my #invicta provider. They sell loads, so many people must agree with you 😁

·

You speak the truth, I love my Invicta Dive watch as much as my Submariner, but a different kind of love.

·

What I like about some of them is the swiss and Japanese movements in some of them. An Invicta GMT with the Swiss 505-24 movement is a great bargain compared to others with the same movement and size. Edit: Thank you for serving

·

I don´t understand, why would any of the homage Invictas be controversial? (At least not any more than other homage watches.) Sure, if you walk around with a Joker, that's another question.

It’s almost all Invicta with a Movado sprinkled in every 3 months or so

I kinda wanna buy one just for the memes😎

I also prefer the more "normal" looking ones. Some of the others are just crazy looking SMH

Fair point, but if you take that position, then that also applies to Blancpain, A Lange & Söhne, Breitling, and a host of other "haute horology" snob brands are the same case, where the ownership changed hands and the brand went defunct for some period of time.

·

The difference with A Lang is the family restarted the business, no lapse of ownership. True that production lapsed due to Soviet theft of production equipment, etc. I believe Blancpain has been in continuos production since founding though ownership has changed. Same for Brietling.

Then one does have to consider the level of product. AL&S still makes upper end watches as always, same for Blacpain, Brietling still produces at the same level they did.

But Invicta took a dive into the cheap end once revived.

I have seen a guy at the gas station wearing a large loud Invicta and it looked amazing. I may have to add one or two of those now!

I have 8 Invictas. Here are the first four:

CAVEAT: The build quality on Invicta is decent. The Swiss Ronda movements, and the Japanese Seiko (TMI) Movements are both really great. No complaints.

HOWEVER, Invicta farms out their service to a 3rd party provider, which provides them with an Invicta branded service website. [LowenWatchGroup] parent company of [FixMyWatch] which is the site that Invicta uses; Whether your watch is under warranty, or not, they're going to charge you an arm and a leg for shipping. And they quibble A LOT about what is and isn't covered under warranty. You're better off taking it to a local watch repair shop, no matter if you have a warranty or not. Trust me, a lot less headaches.
