Time to Change

If you are of a certain age you remember messages from popular music that really resonated with you. This from the supergroup the Brady Bunch has always stuck with me:

“Autumn turns to winter

And then winter turns to spring

It's not just for the seasons you know

It goes for everything

It's even true for voices when boys begin to grow

You gotta take a lesson from mother nature

And if you do you'll know

When it's time to change, then it's time to change Don't fight the tide, come along for the ride Don't ya see?

When it's time to change, you've got to rearrange Who you are into what you're gonna be.”

                                        Time to Change, 1972

And this is a way of saying that my thoughts on this journey of ours through our little hobby have changed a bit over time. I thought that I might list a few on this Easter Monday, feeling renewed as I am. These are just a few of my changes of heart:

      1.  I love the Bulova Lunar Pilot now. The flat case and long lug to lug means that it will hang awkwardly on all but the largest wrists. How democratic and equitable! I wish that they would make a larger version. I need more Lunar Pilot, not less. I also love the history. Bulova was right to just put their name on a Universal Geneve chronograph prototype and never put it into production until decades later. How else would it have remained “fresh” as the kids say? It is not all marketing by a clumsy parent corporation. It went to the moon. Bulova is the most original watch company ever, and shame on Rolex for trying to stop original designs like the Super Seville. Jealous much Rolex?

      2.  Speaking of history, I love how the Submariner was the first watch to climb Mount Everest. I guess haters gonna hate. But you can’t deny history.

      3.  I used to think that G-Shocks were aggressively ugly plastic toys that had all of the fashion sense of wearing cycling shorts to church. If you can bring an IPad to church to keep the youngin’s quiet, why not something for you, something tough and accurate? I now walk proudly into mass like I just appeared in Breaking Away (another reference for you olds). I even speak in a fake Italian accent: “Peace-a be-a with-a you.”

        4. Negative displays are hard to read? They should be! Anything worthwhile requires a little effort.

        5. We need more polls, not fewer on the Crunch. You should buy and wear what we like, not what you like. It is called the Wisdom of Crowds, not Mob Rules, like you have been led to believe. How else to determine which brands that sells millions of units a year on six continents are underrated? We know. We will tell you.

So, “don’t fight the tide, come along for the ride.”

The Peter Voice Crack…classic

·

Brady Bunch? Supergroup? 😂

Not the proper use of the term. Using this logic, The Monkees also qualify, but they are not a supergroup. 😉

·

Never forget:

Don’t underestimate the rich history, beaty and availibility of watches from the 50s😎🐣

·

Came for the man yelling at the clouds. Stayed for the Breaking Away reference. #cutters

They are indeed a group that is super, but perhaps not in the sense of the Traveling Wilburys.

·

Amen on all counts. Spaghetti Scammetti be with you.

I'm pretty sure Jeff Lynne was in the Brady Bunch.

That the Brady Bunch and the Traveling Wilbuys occupy the same sentence is truly sacrilege 😊

·

I for one think we also need more skulls and/or skull watches.

·

After all, today is April 1...

·

Yes, and happy April 1 to you, too

·

Peace-a be-a with-a you.

Nor Led Zepplin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Traffic, etc.

·

It’s too bad not everyday can be April fool’s…
