First Time in the Water

Does anyone else worry the first time they take their waterproof watch under water? Doesn't matter how much water resistance it says it has, I always worry first time in!

No, not the first time… …EVERY time.

·

I think it's only natural to look over the watch after it's been for a dip. I'd always expect it to be fine though.

·

I avoid this by not dunking.

·

When the slightest of cloud forms overhead, i'm checking my crown!

But slowly the confidence builds!

Completely understand! There’s always a little worry in the back of my head when I’m going to get my watch wet.

·

First time? Yup, cuz you just never know.

An expert can tell us something and reassure us 'til the cows come home, but sometimes we have to experience the thing before it can actually be true in our minds.

·

get in for a dunk, if it fails take it back 🤣

·

Love the watch

·

Sand and water are my 2 greatest fears for my watches. 😂

·

No. But I can understand if you do

·

If it has 100m of WR I check the crown. That’s the end of my worry.

·

Check out my latest (and only) post, I took my $250 seiko scuba diving.

·

Certainly a leap of faith. Just make sure it is still under warranty. 😉

Lol. I’m double checking making sure the crown is screwed down. There’s always a twinge of nervousness.

·

Checked if the crown was in about 100 times before I went into the water

·

That's why I buy beaters (well my excuse to buy a LOT (about to buy another one) of more affordable Dive watches/ because, you know, I can't risk taking my expensive chronometer certified and tested watch rated at 300M in 3-5 ft. of water).

·

You’re not alone, I triple check that crown is screwed in tight!

But only after I jump in😂

If your in a the habit of screwing in the crown each time you set the watch you should be fine.

Nice Tudor👍

·

I never worry. Even a 100m is 330 ft which is just shy of the free diving world record. I ain’t ever going to be close to pushing a watches water resistance rating. I do tend to trust a brand like Rolex or Tudor 100m more than Joe Shmoe but I have been in the ocean with 30m waters and been fine

·

I wasn't worried about it last week ;)

£500 watch in warranty = no worry

£500 waych out of warranty = no worry

£3000+ watch in warranty = no worry

£3000+ watch out of warranty = I do worry, and understand the OP's point

·

I know right! It takes time and effort 🤣

I’d be more concerned about scratches to the case and any AR coating from sand (assuming a sapphire crystal - if hesilite, gorilla glass or mineral, no effing way is it going near sand). Probably to a lesser extent the salt water can’t be good long term on metals.

I dunno I guess if you plop down like 2-6k on a watch you might as well get a beater like a g-shock for that kind of thing.

I worry about AR coating being affected by sand when manufacturers insist on putting it on the outside. Daft.

Nope. Don’t even give a second thought. 30 meters and up, swimming, showering, washing my hands with mechanical watches, 25 years, never had a problem.

·

Nope, that’s what they are made for. That said, I only subject my watches with 100m+ WR and a bracelet to water.

·

Not really. All my watches are a minimum 100m water resistant and I just double check that the crown is fully screwed in.

·

Sorry for not replying, I have terrible reception here and will read them all later. I'm no longer worried as have been in the sea a few times now!

·

No

·

Even though I own majority dive watches I still don't really want to take them in the water. I usually have a beater diver to take instead of my nice one
