Alternative Birthday Gift Watch
Hello there, fellow WC. I require your assistance. My friend's daughter turns 22 next Sunday. She wants him to get her a Cartier Panthere (I guess it’s an “It watch”). On her 18th birthday, I heard he gave her a Rolex. However, it is not now in his budget. Is there another option you can recommend? I genuinely want to assist him, so I welcome any recommendations.

She wants the Panthere because it is the "hot girl" watch right now. Getting her a different square watch isn't going to do it. I'm NOT saying he has to stretch his budget, I'm saying she isn't wanting this watch for the style but for the status. Tell him to get her something other than a watch

Don’t know what model she wants, but they start at $3300. With a $1500 budget, if she’s a status girl, get her some $1500 shoes or a purse.

The Cartier Tank with leather strap is cheaper than the Panthere, more iconic.

My wife talked herself out of a Cartier because she didn’t feel like it was worth spending that much money just to look basic.

Find out from her best friend what else she wants and get that her that. And if your truly on the sidelines stay there. Offer support not suggestions. A bad suggestion could come back to you.

I believe Shiv wore a panther. Tom wore a Cartier as well until he started wearing the AP.
Cartier Santos Dumont in two tone rose gold. Very elegant watch and not too expensive in the Cartier line.
There's a good chance he can find a Panthere on the gray market for well less than SRP with box and papers.
