New Seiko 5 GMTs!

The SSK023 (stainless) and SSK025 (black) are supposed to go on sale in January. What are everyone's thoughts on these? The stainless version reminds me a lot of the recent Hodinkee x Longines Zulu time release. $435 is the reported MSRP, which for me is good value for an automatic GMT complication (and the price will settle in for less after a bit of time).

I think they're brilliant. I've got the white-dialed version (SBSC009) on order.

·

I think they look great. I’m purposely avoiding my online AD where I normally buy my Seikos as I really can’t get one of these just now, especially as I’ve already got a Seiko GMT.

·

Probably gonna buy the white version, rolex explorer replacements i've been looking for

·

Reminds me of a Tudor BB PRO

@degenerateWA brought to my attention there is a white-dialed version as well, appears to be a JDM model:

My local AD has ordered the SSK023 for me to have a look at. All 3 models looks very interesting.

I really like the designs apart from the bracelet. Might pull the trigger and buy some aftermarket oyster bracelet.

Its also exciting to see that seiko are using the cheap GMT movement for other models than the ssk seiko 5s!

I’m glad it’s 39.5mm because if it was 38mm I probably wouldn’t be able to stop myself from buying it

I agree on the bracelet, looks fine but not really my style either. I usually upgrade my seiko bracelets anyway unless it's one of their higher-end models

I think this is overpriced. Seiko is absolutely sure that you can endlessly increase the price without improving the quality and materials, and sometimes even deteriorating these same materials and quality. inserting the cheapest mechanism everywhere. you just need to endlessly mix the same parts in different models and colors. Now there may be demand, but time has already passed and retribution for such humiliation of the consumer is not far off. The only option to survive now is pressure and or collusion with those who step on their heels, while Seiko can still afford it.

Oh no... not again! I've been thinking about adding a field or a pilot watch to my collection for a while... but I tell myself every time "you don't need it... enjoy the ones you have", and these models come out to tempt me haha

Yep, each time I think I'm done for a while buying new watches, I get pulled back in!

These look great, but I'm waiting for Seiko to release new versions of the solar traveller's GMT 5K65 movement. The Sumo variants (SFK001 and SFK003 and a black dial version whose model escapes me) are nice but too dive oriented for my intended purpose (you know, traveling). And I was able to pick up an Aragon version with the Seiko movement and a beautiful dial for 1/3 of the Seiko cost. But these look great and seem well priced compared with other similar models. Enjoy!

Precisely my thoughts. The only style missing from my collection was a GMT field watch, and I was looking at the Hamilton khaki, but somehow convinced myself that I don't need it. But these designs 😍

Now that is a good looking watch. I've got a thing for white dials and that is great.

I wonder where the inspo came for that came from <cough> EXPLORER </cough>

Wait, you mean to tell me that someone else beat Seiko to a white GMT field watch with orange accents? 😂
