Share your second watch.

There were a lot of posts asking for the first watch, that got you into the rabbit hole. But really it should be the second one. The second watch is the trigger saying that I want a collection or at least I want more than one daily watch.

Mine was Vostok Amphibian 420007 that looks horrible in the promo pictures except for one. I dived for it and never regret it. One of my favourites. I changed the bracelet to a strap and bezel to a sterile brushed one. But the dial and crystal distortion just mesmerise me.

Well I don’t remember what number but I know for a fact it’s one of the watches that got me deep in the rabbit hole…

Very nice one. I understand your passion

·

Great collection. How much difference was between the second and third?

·

I had a number of nice digital watches for years and about 14 years ago got two preowned automatics at about the same time a GP 1966 and a Gevril 15º.

I went on with these two quite happily for some years wearing out a couple leather bands in the process. Then my wife and I went on a vacation to Aruba. I’ve travelled extensively, but this was my first trip to the Caribbean, outside of Puerto Rico and I had never gone to luxury watch stores. Day 3 of the trip, my wife says, ‘I’m taking you watch shopping‘. We went to an Omega specialty shop and a Rolex AD (back when you could just walk in and buy one!) My Omega AT easily won the day; to me lighter, better finished, and more attractive with a super comfortable rubber strap. This could have easily been it, but it was actually the opening of a very deep rabbit hole. It is fun down here though!

Image

Two more Omegas, three Grand Seikos, three Rados, two Oris’, two Balls, two Longines, a Tissot and number of microbrands later, I might have a problem. But hey, some of those belong to my wife! 😉

·

Second watch was a Casio Royale. Shortly thereafter I got a 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. So I bought a 6 space watch box and told myself "this is all the space Ill ever need!". Famous last words indeed...

I guess the box limitation didn't help? 🤣

My second watch was the Citizen Aviator AW5000-16L

Image

I originally wanted to get the Citizen Aviator AW1360-12H because it looked so good in the pictures but when i got to the store and put it on my hand it just didnt feel right. When i put the AW5000-16L on my hand it just clicked, i love the simplicity of the dile, the blue nylon strap that matches it perfectly, the red accents and its an eco-drive so no muss no fuss 😀

A great watch. I'm still on my way to my first solar watch. But will get there sooner or later

·

I think my 2nd watch was this Telux brushed metal two tone dive watch, it has day in both English and French. Bought at Sharper Image back in 1980.

Have you stopped at 2?

·

Great question. I see it as the watch that started the ’collection’ and mine is my Brew Retromatic. I had a watch, a quartz shinola that I like, and started needing a nice legible watch for work. i began doing what we do, stalking through the bowels of YouTube watch stuff and the sewers of Reddit and came up with a Brew and while I love it dearly as my first mechanical watch, I immediately knew more would come.

Wow. That is an interesting choice for a second watch. Looks great. I like the dial a lot. Always wanted a pink/salmon dial but always tend to buy a black one

My second watch, Hamilton American Classic Spirit of Liberty Chronograph (a mouthful, I know). I got it in celebration of my son's birth.

GelatoBoi

The more muted red and blue look so good

Went in to look at the bb pro and s&g gmt and walked out with the og gmt

Long gone (destroyed), but I walked into the jewellers and walked out with this to save me wearing my grandads Omega all the time.

Replaced it with this:

and I still have it.

First of all - great choice. Secondly it's the best looking Kamasu + strap combo that I have ever seen. And I usually don't like striped NATOs. But here - wow!

Thank you!! Yes when I came across it online I thought it would be a good match, but the blue matches incredibly and the grey works with the brushed case even better than I could have hoped.

That's a great occasion. When my son was born I was wearing a watch, but was yet not into watches.

·

Fits you well. Initially I couldn't like this model, but it growing on me with every month.

·

You know. I might reconsider my view on 42 mm Omega divers. My wrist is 6,75 and I was afraid that it would be a tad too big but looking at your it looks really alright. Sporty, chunky, but not overhanging and not dominating the wrist.

Casio Duro. My first was a gift from the wife, a Vostok kommandierski.

Which of those do you wear more now? If you still have them, of course.

·

The Duro for sure, usually my go to Sunday watch. They make excellent gifts as well.

·

I’m not a fan of the three watch collection, but I could live with these three.

·

The Beginning & The End. The King Ying to The Willard Yang.

My Rabbit Hole Watch was the Seiko SRPE05 "King Turtle"

What I would have purchased had I been more seasoned is what just may be

My Mothership Watch.  Seiko SBDC109 JDM "Capt. Willard"

Even so, I'm happy I took the path I did

Image
·

I forgot to mention I did do some recon on the " Capt. Willard" by purchasing a Steeldiver Homage w/ the Kanagawa wave lume dial. Just in case I ended up with both. Just wanted to make sure the case size was what I wanted😉 That's the mind of a watch collector.😂

My grail!

My second watch might actually be my first watch, as my first watch was a smartwatch (it's a badass smartwatch too) but my second watch was my first dumb watch:

But then my second second watch was the OG smartwatch:

All watches are cool.
