What is your most overrated watch brand?

We all have our opinion on our favorite watch brand or which brand is the best bang for your dollar. But what about the watch brand that you think is the most overrated?

I hear a lot about everything Hublot being overrated. Tudor being overrated for what they are. Omega being overated because of over saturation of the moonwatch or moonswatch. I left Rolex off the list because that would just be to easy.

But I did leave the last box open for any watch you feel you need to add, including any brands already mentioned.

For full disclosure I have both a Rolex and a moonwatch. I like them. What can I say?

I'm not sure what to vote since you took Rolex off the board.

I'll go with Richard Mille...cause NO WATCH is worth the same or more than a house or a college education. 💸

I agree a Richard Mille seems pretty outrageous but we all have a different comfort levels. If you’re in the Richard Mille comfort level have at it. I’m pretty sure college tuition isn’t a concern.

@SpecKTator totally agree, RM is super over rated. The desin is just not for me and not to mention the price…

·

RM and FM I hate em…… nuff said

I think Rolex is the most hyped brand... You would think that it was as good as AP, VC, or PP. But it's actually in the second tier of luxury watch brands.

·

I have a Rolex and a Moonwatch too and love them both. I would say Rolex mainly because of the extreme hype and lack of supply at the AD (the grey market "mysteriously" has plenty of new unworn versions and usually has more Rolex than any other brand).

Don't get me wrong. They are great watches but the hype and cost (from sources where you can actually get the watch) have blown way past what they are.

I ike "easy"

Rolex

Rolex

·

Rolex, they are good, but the hype is ridiculous.

·

Rolex. The watches simply cannot be worth the effort to actually purchase one at an AD.

It suck’s that the Rolex AD’s make it so hard for the customer. I got my Rolex by chance. I walked in a Rolex AD on vacation and walked out with a watch that I wanted. No list, buying history or inside track. If it wasn’t for that. I’d still be wondering how to get one.

It’s not and that’s the real problem.

·

Lol Omega being on here and not Rolex.

·

I think Rolex the brand is overrated. Certainly over valued. But I don't agree that their watches are over rated.

My local watchmaker complains about working on the holy Trinity brands; he says their components are fragile and often break when he's working on them. But Rolex is built like a tank.

I think Rolex do in fact make great tool design watches that last. However, the buying experience has become a nightmare.

Actually, all the holy Trinity brands are very overrated. I've handled VC and AP, and in no way do their quality justify their sky high prices. They are riding high on "heritage".

·

Went to both AP and VC dealer tried them on.. nothing.. didn’t understand the YouTube hype or the cost both at the dealer and grey market… especially the date only models are like any other watch..

When you say FM, is it Furlan Marri?

Hi it’s Franck Muller…

Most people are mad at Rolex simply because they can’t get one. Soon as the AD calls majority of critics will rush over there. That’s why I take the Rolex bashing with a pinch of salt. In terms of overrated, they have proven the watches stand the test of time both in design and build quality. What’s overrated then? Marketing is just that. Can’t complain about one company doing it better than others.

You're not wrong but it's not the watches that are overrated, the watches are great. It's the brand itself that seems to overshadow the watches. Most people who buy a Rolex just buy the brand without a clue or care for the watch and it's design/quality. Enthusiasts are heavily in the minority. But that's the sad reality of most luxury products. The majority bought it for the name.

I agree with you and that’s why I said you can’t hate on Rolex for doing the marketing thing better than others.

Had Omega for example gone down the route Rolex did it would be them everyone hates on. So basically don’t hate the player hate the game 😅

On a more serious note tho, I don’t think people just buy the brand without caring for the quality. As I said, the quality is proven so people don’t always need to question it or have doubts. They might not be watch nerds but they still expect quality products at those price points.

In my opinion there’s a big difference between ‘overhyped’ and ‘overrated’ — and I don’t think anyone who’s owned a Rolex thinks they’re overrated since they live up to most expectations and then some. They are definitely overhyped though.

I think RM is overrated. Controversially, I also believe the coaxial escapement is overhyped (not overrated), even given the technical ingenuity, given it doesn’t offer tangible real-world benefits over it’s competition.

·

Rolex! Robust watches and "perceived wealthy image" by general public. I own 2, rarely wear them now.

I asked many (so called watch enthusiasts/casual watch buyer) this question; if your rolex doesn't hold value and depreciate at least 30% from the price you purchase, would you still buy them. Most of them look dumbfounded.

Nothing against them, just find too many people buy Rolex mainly because of the perceived image and it holds value. No all buy it cos they really like the watch.

Tudor…. It’s an homage brand made by the same company it’s copying

I agree. That’s a hard opinion to argue.

Ahhh makes way more sense 😅. Definitely agree with you RM and Frank Muller are overrated

·

Rolex is a bit over-rated — for instance I love your Tissot Seastar way more than your Explorer .

I love that watch. I have a large wrist and I can easily handle big watches but for me the Tissot a little thick. I feel like it gets knocked more than any other watch I have. But’s it cool for sure.
