What else do you collect?

Is collecting ingrained in our DNA? Are we drawn to this hobby because you like watches or is it something more? Is collecting something we have to do and watches is the medium we’re currently using to fill the urge?

Let me tell you what I’m talking about when I was young up to about high school I collected comic. It was popular, comics or baseball cards is what my friends and I did. This was before video games. I’m an old guy to you millennials. I still have a large storage box of comic in plastic sleeve in storage shed.

Once I got old enough to get to beach by myself I filled the garage surf and skate boards. That’s seemed to fill the need.

Fast forward some years. As I started collecting kids and funding their collections and educations. I found myself wrapped up in my new collection of metal lunch boxes. Again lunch boxes were before millennials.

Image

I have large collection, maybe, 75 of them.

I’ve had a concert ticket collection. It was lost in a move. A vinyl and a CD collection. That was sold. I’ve always seemed to be collecting something.

For me collecting has been apart of who and what I am from a young age. When I look back at them it a time capsule of people, places and things. Like photographs. I guess I do that too. I have a collection of photographs on the wall that I’ve taken from the places I’ve been. I have 25-30 of them in the house. They get rotated as the new ones come in.

So today at this time in my life I’m collecting watches Is collecting part of who you are? What else do you collect besides watches?

Nice photos there, very cool.

Books. I read mostly history, but will also indulge in fantasy, science fiction and general fiction. And I keep a lot of reference books on hand since I work on bikes and cars, and other crafts too. Business books too. Last count I was over 600.

Sat here with my mobile phone, don't see how I can add photos to a reply?

Used to have 5 motorbikes at the same time. Reduced to 2 now. BMW 1150GS, and a Moto Guzzi California 3.

Vintage theatre lights😎I like to try and make a statement with lampshades / lights.

Women, but it seems problematic to be running 2 at the same time. 3 was a juggle🤔

Man cave items....

Solid collection. I like the dog too.

·

Legos, Star Wars, Marvel, Disney…and generally problems

·

You had me hooked until the problems

·

I have a decent amount of pocket knives. Having grown up in the late 50's /early 60's I'm from a time when no self respecting 8 year old ever left the house without his trusty pocket (usually cub scout) knife.

Been carrying one for over 60 years.

·

Pool cues. Custom, antique, and vintage. Old McDermott references and hard to find billiards memorabilia.

·

Souls…

·

Man, it's def in the DNA! I collect too much other stuff; posters, books, vinyl, die-cast cars, steelbooks, tin lunch boxes like you.

I wish I could focus on one thing, but it's never going to happen. Thankfully it goes in waves, which keeps me from becoming a pauper.

·

Books, storage containers and split personalities. So yeah, there might definitely be a part of DNA that is responsible for it xD

·

L.A. has a great sneaker culture perhaps only rivaled by NYC. Here are some of my rarer Adidas sneakers. Sparing you the Puma, Van's, Nike and others that comprise a ginormous sneaker pimp collection.

BTW I get more comments and compliments on my clothes, even at watch gatherings, then I ever receive from what's on my wrists.

I get that my shoes aren't everyone's "cup of tea" however your feet, your rules!

·

I use to collect knives, then boots, and dabbled with pens. I had to dial it back and let go of some things once my 4 collections filled two separate closets and an entire room 😅

Books are the 1st thing I ever seriously collected. ❤ Mainly California History, Early Aviation & Space Exploration. Here's one signed by all three Apollo 11 astronauts and Thomas O. Paine, head of NASA during the first lunar landing.

That's incredible! I have the 1969 piece Lego Saturn V rocket so I love space stuff too! But that is priceless.

·

5 years ago I had 2.500 Zippo lighters, so I suppose you'd call that a collection. Sold the lot for £25.000. Then I discovered watches a couple of years later. And that's were I'm at now, not much of the £25.000 left though.

·

It is said that three of anything is a collection and in that case, I collect far too many things! 😁

·

Analog cameras. Not just collectig but also using them as well

I hear you. 3 is that really to magic number? I feel your right but it has to more. I mean I have more than 3 toothbrushes, (current, old, travel and new) laptops, children, crap I just realized my wife has more than 3 college degrees…..Are we hoarders? I don’t feel like we’re hoarder. Overachiever sounds better. Maybe overachievering collecting hoarders. Officially in the rabbit hole.

Just got these off a friend who works at the Adidas HQ here in Portland. I'm not brand loyal but I have far too many Nike's. However these are my current favorite sneaker.

Camo Stan Smith's There was a Grey Camo variant as well.

Partial camouflage on this pair. Threw a '69 Bellmatic into the pic so the watch attorneys don't get us.

Far too many things…

I collect watches of all types - highlight is probably my Rolex Daytona.

I collect comic books - I have quite a few pedigree books and several hundred key issues. I have books that go back to the early 1940s.

I have probably close to 5000 dvd/blu-ray movies.

I have hundreds of autographs.

I have a few screen used movie props.

And a bunch more…

·

Challenge Coins

Records

Watch Straps

Prime Focal Length Lenses

First issue Tolkien Books (have ORG LOTR, Hobbit, Silmarilion sets.....looking for Adventures of Tom Bombadil)

"Accidental" collections (i.e.- didn't work out after trying, or stuff accumulates) 😂💩

Various holsters and belts

Camping Gear

Golf Clubs

Dog toys

Baby/Toddler Toys

Good question!!! Besides watches…80’s Wrestling figures, Designer vinyl toys, Back to the future stuff, Star Wars figures, 80’s-90’s baseball & basketball cards, sneakers, “lowbrow art”, sports autographs, collectible books. Damn…that’s a lot!!!

·

-Video Games, but only the ones I grew up playing because I feel like they are a part of me.

-Anything Venom, mostly because I think the artwork and how some people depict him is a work of art

-Funko Pops, only of the characters that I am fond of

-Murder Mystery Books, only the best of the best

-My College Books, it was a rough four years so I don't want to forget what I went through, as well as that I like the science and math backing my degree

·

Or smart! You save more money for the good stuff watches.
