What's your favorite dial type?

I love a great dial (who doesn't?!). With so many options, what's your favorite dial type? NOTE - I was limited to 4 options, but honorary mentions include California (mix of Roman/Arabic numerals), crosshair/sector dial, enamel, gilt, marquetry, panda, skeleton, sandwich, stone, tapisserie, teaked, and wood.

Of the 4 to choose from A head been my selection but if Enamel had been an option that would have been the one for me. For some reason they just pop in my eyes and stand out above everything else.

For sure my favorite dial is the GS Cherry Blossom and Snowflake after.

I love enamel/porcelain and lacquer dials… esp my soon to be BFF’s …

My Hexmariner.  Is this Guilloche?

Matte with just a hint of a texture for me. 😉

Wow, that guilloche is stunning, but I think it would impair legibility.  I tend toward ceramic or porcelain dials.  My current fave is the Omega Aqua Terra Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics edition: brilliant white ceramic with a frost pattern.  Best pic I could find (Thanks Fratello!): it is rather tricky to photograph.

I totally agree!! After seeing it in person for the first time, I just had to acquire one for my collection. I adore the texture of the dial and the subtle pink hue. Definitely gonna have to make room for a few more GS in the coming months. Looking to add the new SLGH013, SBGJ261, SBGA415, and SLGH005 White Birch in the coming years. 🥰🔥🔥😍🤩

That's a Japanese pattern called Asanoha, which translates to 'hemp leaf'. Seiko uses this pattern on the dials in their 'Sharp Edge' Presage range. More about Asanoha: https://project-japan.jp/asanoha/

Per the interwebs: "Asanoha (=麻の葉) means the “Hemp Leave” in Japanese. The Japanese believed that the Asanoha pattern protects someone you care (especially children) from evil spirits. Therefore, we can find this pattern often on the children’s wear."

That's really cool!

These are all great dials, but my favorite Grand Seiko dial is the Grand Seiko SBGK015 Ryūsendō U.S. Limited Edition

Just look at that beautiful blue swirl! I love it!

I'm really surprised by the lack of love for mother-of-pearl given the number of mother-of-pearl dial options offered by brands these days. It's not my thing, but I was expecting more mother-of-pearl lovers out there in WC land
