I need some help!!!

We will travel to London for Christmas and I really want to bring one of my 3 favorite watches of mine. But everywhere on the internet you can read about robberies and shit, especially when you wear a nice watch.

Now I have a few questions.

Do the articles about the robberies mean like AP‘s, Rolexes and Richard Milles with nice watches, or are my watches targeted as well?

And if so, would it be dumb to bring one of these watches anyways? I mean it will be pretty cold so I would wear a jacket or at least a sweatshirt so the watch would be hidden like 90% of the time.

So the options are:

  1. Tudor Pelagos 39

  2. Omega Speedmaster FOIS

  3. Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Bronze

  4. No watch at all.

Thanks for everyone helping me!

To be safe, bring number 3.

Nobody is robbing those 3 watches.

It’s only Rolex AP and Patek that gets targeted.

·

If you are worried about it causing a robbery problem I would take the Ham. For me personally I would take the Pelagos. I’ve traveled a lot to Europe and I’ve never had an issue when wearing a high end watch.

Okay thank you very much! 👍

I Would go with the Hamilton and please be safe, absolutely have long sleeves etc until you arrive at your destination, be cautious when it's dark and hope you enjoy your trip!

I visited London for a couple weeks over the summer, and I didn't see robberies on every street corner and thugs hiding in every bush, jumping out and grabbing watches off the wrist of every passerby.

I pretty much wore a Christopher Ward the whole time with no issues. It didn't seem unsafe at any point I was there. But I stayed in the well populated, relatively safe areas and didn't venture into any dark alleys.

But anything can happen, so still, I'd wear something that wouldn't be devastating to lose or damage.

I’ve worn Rolex’s, Patek and many other brands all over and I’ve never had any problems. With any of those I wouldn’t worry about it.

For the sake of peace of mind just take the Hamilton.

Why risk it??

Youve nothing to gain, so leave your nice ones at home (not saying that the Hamilton isn't a nice watch, but you get my drift...)

Good luck

The Speedy and the Pelagos, although luxury pieces, they’re not hype pieces. The criminals are after pieces on which they can still turn a healthy margin enough to pocket themselves and their spotters, even though the watch is sold without box nor papers. You know, when the “reward makes the risks tolerable”. These sort of margins are not so easy to get from luxury but available pieces like the Speedy and the Pelagos.

Of course, if that gives you a bit more peace of mind, just wear the Hamilton.

·

If you will be wearing jackets the thinnest one , kind of obvious.

·

As your far more likely to have your house burgled while you're away I would suggest taking them all . 🤔

·

I have found that this rule works all over the world...

DON'T GO STUPID PLACES AT STUPID TIMES WITH STUPID PEOPLE.

You bought your watches to wear, right? So wear what you want. Just be smart.

·

I'd think twice about wearing a high value Rolex/AP/Patek, but I wouldn't worry myself about these.

When I travel I feel more comfortable taking just one watch.

When I take more than one I'm worried about having them stolen from the hotel room or if they were in some luggage that gets lost or stolen.

A robbery in general is waaay more common than a watch specific robbery. The cash in one's wallet doesn't need to be fenced for a percentage of it's value nor is it easily traced back to the owner. Garden variety robberies are so common that they rarely make the news.

Watch thieves have to be one of the smallest of niche scumbaggers like purebred dog nappers and catalytic converter thieves.

Situational awareness shouldn't be limited to what's on one's wrist or one's dog leash or a car's undercarriage. Avoid carrying valuables in places where crime is common...period.

#3. No need to risk your safety for a watch

·

It sounds like it's being conflated. I had Microsoft's AI come up with some pictures of what, I believe, fearmongering has people thinking. I had to change "machete" to "toy pirate sword" before it would agree to do it. Enjoy.

Sorry. Only lets me post one at a time

I traveled all over Europe by car, train, plane with my luxury watches...try not to be flashy on the streets during the night

·

Great watches and great photos!

·

I wore a omega seamaster in Paris, mid summer for a few days no issue and many unsavoury places around the UK

·

Tbh, all of them are very less likely to be identified from long distance. But with the weather condition (which rains a lot) in Lodon I think 5 bars would not be an ideal option

·

London is the test apparently.

Man. If you don’t get robbed, then you know your watch is crap!

·

I never had a problem in London, but my Rolex is a Date from the 80s. I don’t own a Sub or a GMT Master, let alone the ultra expensive APs and the likes. These would worry me in any big city other than Tokyo.

·

Thugs want the blingy stuff. Stuff they can melt down (they likely can't tell time anyway) and make a new grill with it.
