I don't doubt some people do buy them because they are a more obtainable Rolex.
I think a lot of people feel like I do which is a draw to a lot of the vintage inspired designs that tudor releases, we already know Rolex won't use the Rolex brand to release back-catalog stuff so its either vintage or tudor in a lot of cases /2cents
I actually have both Oris Big Crown in bronze 40mm & a Ball Engineer III Marvelight in 36mm you really can't go wrong with either one both are great watches.
I think ball generally will offer a bit more in terms of water resistance and anti-magnetic / anti-shock but at the cost of being thicker, additionally a lot of their watches have male end links leading to an overall bigger feel on wrist, whereas the Big Crown is quite thin and has female endlinks so it wears a bit smaller
