Most people settle for a Tudor because they can't afford a Rolex.

I think if you want something a little more fun and daring, you go for a Tudor. Think about it. The Day Date, GMT Master and Sub have been relatively unchanged for decades. Minus a few limited models and some in precious metals that are well beyond the reach of most. They’re boring watches, I think. Would I like one? Sure, but at retail. However, if you look at watches like the Tudor Monte Carlo with the colorful dial or the Black Bay series with the snowflake hands. Or the Pelagos with that bright blue dial and bezel, self adjusting spring loaded clasp and titanium case and bracelet, Rolex wouldn’t do that. Even something like the Black Bay Chronograph, it seems a little more interesting than a Daytona. The Daytona has been beaten into all of us as “The Chronograph you’re supposed to have” and I’m like “Yeah, okay, but it’s $40,000.” I think Tudor makes

I find this recurring comment ridiculous.

I CAN afford a Rolex. I've tried to throw my money at an AD to acquire one, but apparently MY money isn't as good as anyone else's.

But owning 4 Tudors somehow means that I can't afford one Rolex?

Tudor is actually a very good brand and I'm allowed to prefer most of their model line up over it's bigger brother regardless of how fat my wallet is.

How many people on here moan about wanting a Tudor but hating the Snowflake hands? I actually prefer the Snowflake hands over the Mercedes hand, so Tudor will always be a preference for me.

Define settle? One should live within their means. Can I afford a Malibu beach front property? Not at the moment. Does living elsewhere mean settling? It is a silly notion meant to punch down on those without the means. Every price point is an accomplishment for someone. For others, we can equally enjoy and own both without judging.

Most people who settle for a Tudor do it because they can't afford a Rolex.

There, I fixed it for you.

Most of the people that I know don't settle for a Tudor, or for any other watch. Those who do wear a watch usually wear some kind of a Smartwatch, mostly from the fruity persuasion.

The vanishing minority of the people who still wear a real watch wouldn't give a toss to either Tudor or Rolex. They need something that will tell them the time reliably in a manner that they grew used to, hence quartz is still king.

·

Yes of course they don't.

This site is about watches, not fortunes………..

Such an asinine statement.

What about the people who has both Tudor and Rolleys?

What about the people who has both Tudor and Rolleys?

They should have saved more and bought another Rolex instead 😉🤣

·

Or maybe it's because they want something less common and/or less likely to be stolen from your wrist on a night out?

To get the daytona, the nice lady asked them to buy more Tudor.

So that's how they work now. Buy four Tudor and we might, just might, let you join the list to buy a Rolex eventually 🤣🤣🤣

·

I prefer the Tudor range. Both are fabulous brands. I bought my one Rolex at an AD for the retail price. Its lovely but given the choice I choose Tudor.

·

Looks like many understood the question to be "did you settle for a Tudor because you could not afford a Rolex ?"

And, since they don't want to look or feel cheap, the answer will be :

absolutely not, I bought a Tudor because I love the vintage look/the snowflake hand/the Marine Nationale heritage/the list goes on

I bought a Tudor BlackBay 58 in 2022 because I love the looks of this watch, sure, but I would not have spent € 9 k on a Submariner because I have other priorities in life

·

I didn’t vote because I think the Rolex / Tudor topic is more nuanced. I don’t think it’s about the money, and rather availability. I also think this is part of Rolexes marketing strategy. By switching a person from the wait list to buying a Tudor, Rolex still gets the sale while still keeping a large number of these customers yearning for the watch they want, because most certainly a large part of Tudor sales are substitute watches. I’m not saying all or the majority. But I do feel that Rolex uses Tudor as a marketing tool in this way.

Even if you can afford a Rolex, availability is still an issue.

I haven't seen any waiting lists for a Tudor.

I love tudor watches more, if someone presented me with a choice i would choose tudor between the two, my second grail is a tudor watch, tudor captivates me more than a rolex

I actually prefer Tudor watches. I really really do.

Rolex is for gangsters, drug dealers, pop stars and people of “less desireble” nature who use the brand as a status symbol rather than horology. Well, 90% of the time anyway. And everyone think it’s a fake off the bat anyway. “Is that a REAL rolex”. No thanks

True.

Tudor has always been a less expensive alternative. It was created by Rolex to be just that.

I can't afford either of them, so I'll settle for something else!

What classist bullshit. The notion of one "settling" for a superfluous purchase worth thousands while people struggle to make rent is asinine.

I'm settling for an Addiesdive because I cannot (or would not) afford either Rolex or Tudor. A watch is a time-telling device of limited utility. They are a bit of fun, I own quite a few, but spending thousands of pounds on a single one is not on my radar.
