Today's dilemma.....right watch for the occasion.

Today sees me in the unusual position of having to wear a suit, shirt & tie. An event that celebrates the life of a great man within the industry that I work in, who recently passed away.

Whilst it's billed as a celebration, it will be a painful experience for a number of the people there who had great love for the man.

In an industry that tends to default to the extravagant, to an over the top show of prestige, power & wealth, I'm not predicting I'll be there for long. However, whilst there you have to play the game to some extent. Much of my work comes through building relationships with those at the top of the tree.

A dark suit is order of the day & therefore something dressy & elegant is required of my watch. Any of these 4 watches would be suitable but my instinct is opting for my most favourite understated watch, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual silver dial.

The Datejust is too big. I don't have a bracelet for the Santos 100 & the Pasha is too dressy for the occasion. A bit of reverance is required.

Of the four, what would you feel the most comfortable wearing, given the backdrop of the occasion?

Either of those on leather. Dressy and elegant rules out the bracelets.

·

Rolex OP , Classic watch suitable for all occasions

Rolex OP

Cantaloop

This is my dilemma. I'm sure there will be a plethora of Rolex on show today & although the OP is perfect, I do like to be a bit different. The Pasha is the most likely not to be seen on anyone else's wrist, so it may see me change my mind to it at the last minute.

·

Cartier santos for me as it’s dressy with a suit. Not the sporty OP

·

OP was what I would have gone too as well. 👍

·

The slightly smaller OP seems to be logical choose for a more understated classy look. You Nomos, not included in those four, could also Vera great under the radar choose with a dark suit 👌🏻

·

Based on your post, be the contrarian and don’t wear one.

Either the Santos or the OP. Santos on leather is a little classier, OP is more universal but a little more casual

·

Cartier, no need for bracelet, black leather is ok for that event imo

·

The OP, but on a leather strap.

·

The Cartier on the right. It has a somber but smiling vibe. Perfect for remembering.

·

Santos

·

100% the Santos.

·

Either of the black leather straps.

·

Santos.

·

You could get a little screwdriver and take a link out of the Datejust for fitment or wear the Santos on leather.

·

Cartier on the leather strap, or the ROLEX OP. Best options.

·

Santos

Or the pasha

But really, Santos

·

As others have articulated, the OP in my mind would work best.

·

OP for all occasions...

·

Thank you for your comments guys. The event kicked off at 11am & here I am back in the house within 3 hours. I stayed for the important bit, then left after a bit of schmoozing. I'm far happier down the pub with my mates than at these occasions but you have to do them now & again.

In the end I went with the OP as the dial matched my tie. Some very nice watches on show if you're a big Rolex fan, the best of which was probably the Daytona green dial, yellow gold. Not a fan of it myself & not a surprise to see it on the wrist of a Producer.

OP

·

The one that will easily slip under the cuff of your dress shirt? 😎

·

I always wear my Santos 100 fitted to a black croco strap and clasp. I have lost track of the painful times that I was called on to deliver a eulogy or short remembrance. That watch is my sincere item. Go with the Cartier Santos.

·

Santos or DJ :)

·

Santos de Cartier. It’s a somber occasion. The Santos on strap sets the right tone IMHO.

·

I’d definitely go for the Cartier santos.

·

Cartier Santos all the way when it comes to suits, shirt & tie 😎
