New to this place, greetings!

Hi there,

French enthousiast here, name is Theo. Looking for places like this, where we can talk and share about our hobby, in a friendly and laidback manner.

I am in my forties. I have been taking a deeper interest into mechanical watches since 2017, altough I always wore watches. But you know, where I live, it was mostly Swatch ones (which I deeply respect), on the dressy side.

My interest was picked in 2017 when Baltic launched a kickstarter. I fell in love with the retro, 1940's aesthetic chronograph they introduced. With a display caseback! And what is this column wheel and that spongy feel when you start the chrono ? And is it true that the Seagull ST19 was originally the Venus 175 ? And wait a second... what is this complete world of swiss and french manufacturers that got wiped away by the quartz crisis and are barely known nowadays?!

You can see this trap I got clenched into. Collecting mechanical watches intertwines topics that are dear to me : History / design / durability / testimony of the industrial age.

First vintage was a Longines ultrachron and at the time, I was shit-scared to spend so much money on something that might not fully work. But it went good, and the hunting / buying / selling / consolidating bug took me.

I have a small wrist (16cm / 6'3 inches) as you can see on pictures.

Lastly, I would say that I don't fancy much complications. I find beauty in balance, and a 3 hands, date or no date really does it for me.

Looking forward to chat and learn more with you all!

A beautiful collection. Love your Longines and Grand Seiko. I started collecting in a similar way. It’s become quite a rabbit hole. Here‘s my vintage Longines from 1954.

Welcome to the forum. Great watches you shared. Longines is a favourite brand. Vintage as well as new.

Thank you. Always loved Longines as a brand, partly because of their achievements since 1832, partly also because they are nowadays in Omega's shadow due to strategic considerations from the swatch group (I have an odd fascination for underdogs!).

I like what they are doing lately, and I think the watch community appreciates it aswell.
