Should i keep it ?

Not a long time ago I bought Rolex Batgirl.

It’s my “grail” watch since I love the design and proportions of this model. Also there are not to many alternatives (imo).

I wore the watch few times, but I discovered that I don’t feel good wearing watch that expensive. I’m always thinking what other more important things I could get in the real world 🛵🚙🏚️💻🧱

I always told my self that it’s investment, but normally you would not wear your investment on wrist 😁 and also I don’t think this model will go up in price either since AD’s getting more of those models and Rolex also building new factories …

I know collecting watches is not about the money and you should buy and enjoy watches without hesitation:)

But is there someone who had/have similar feelings about his more expensive watches ?

Should I maybe sell it buy some Tudor and wear it everywhere ? Since it’s doesn’t scream Rolex all over the place and nobody is trying to rob you. Also it’s 50% cheaper so the demage won’t that big hh …

I’m just scared that if I sell it i will regret it later

The statement you made that "it doesn't feel good" to wear makes me think maybe you should sell it. Just MHO. Below is the Batman I love to wear.

If you're not comfortable wearing it then you're not getting enjoyment from it, certainly not five figures worth of enjoyment. I'd get rid and find something more reasonable that would put a smile on your face.

·

If you think there are better things to spend money on sell it! I personally do not. Good luck with your conundrum

·

Only similar feeling is my heightened attention to being robbed. Mind you i daily see people wearing Richard Mille, solid gold pateks, and others. Without a care in the world, may be I should lighten up but when I see that all I see is target practice with a price tag.

I was chatting with a salesperson at an AD who does not sell Rolex. Our discussion did eventually get to the subject of the Rolex. She said that she bought one but sold it shortly after so I asked her for the reason. She say that once she got it, she was no longer interested in the watch. She had more fun trying to get one but once she got it ... the fun was not longer there.

That’s true, but depends where you live, the place where I live I never seen RM and Patek maybe on few people

If you are not comfortable with wearing that much money on your wrist and carrying your "investment" around to be banged up, which is totally understandable, the best thing to do is to sell it while it's in great condition and before the secondhand market dips further.

It's perfectly fine to enjoy more fair-priced timepieces if that relieves some of the pressure from having such expensive jewelry. Personally, I find that I enjoy my watches more when I don't have to worry about my wrist every minute for fear of hitting something. You don't have to go upmarket to be an enthusiast. 👍

Perfectly said! I do have other less expensive watches which I love. I thought I would be in love with this piece but I don’t know … maybe I need more time to decide and put more wear towards other watches for now 😇

Don’t sell it because you feel guilty for having one. Unlesss you’ve put yourself into financial hardship for it, I’d say keep it because you’ve earned it.

Money comes and goes, spend it on the things and people you love.

·

Sell it. I dought you will regret it later expaically if you get a Tudor in its place that will make you feel more comfortable with how you spent. Down side is Tudor won’t hold its re sale price as the Rolex being that you got it from an AD. Ultimately the choice is your but I feel like I can relate to how you feeling. I have the money for my sub no date grail but I really am not comfortable with parking that much money in a toy right now and if I sell it that defeats the purpose of getting my grail. So I decided to mod the sub grail and I have been more then happy with the results. Next wood have been to get a Tudor which I still may do. But I’m not putting pressure on my self to rush anything. There’s time. If your not sure what to do the best thing to do is nothing.

·

I won't and can't tell you what to do. But I will say this. In my eyes a Tudor is not a replacement for a Rolex. Good luck.

·

I was like you when I got my batgirl back in 2019. It felt odd wearing such and expensive timepiece on my wrist. But then I realized, I had all my priorities straight, haven’t been irresponsible with money and I worked hard to be able to purchase the watch.

Now, that is my experience. You have to be honest with yourself, have you got all your priorities in order? Are you stretching your finances for this watch? Only you can answer that.

·

What if you loaned it to someone you trust (like, a lot). That way you could try out the feeling of not having it, but you can always get it back. Just a suggestion 👍

·

You shouldn’t be buying a luxury item of any kind of it’s a financial burden, but now that you’ve got it only you can make the determination if you should keep it — that’s a lot of money parked in the one watch. Sounds like you still love the watch, you’re just uncomfortable wearing it because of the expense — that’s a conundrum only you can resolve. Good thing about Rolexes is that they hold value so you don’t lose much / stand to gain if you sell it (also why resale value does matter to some degree).

·

I was on the list for this same watch. Before it was delivered I realized how many other watches I would like more than this watch for the same or less money. So I canceled and out a deposit on a bel canto and bought a Nomos metro date reserve both for the same money. If I had to delivery and sold I would have money for a thirds watch😂. So go for it. Sell it and get what you really want.

·

Stop worrying and enjoy the watch. People’s opinion shouldn’t drive you. Wear the watch and be grateful you have the means to own it.

·

The hobby is about what you like and sharing your memories of your watches and you. If you, you dont feel good. Don't keep it. Wear what you like. Not what society tells you. You should be comfortable wearing your hard earned pieces. Otherwise just invest your money wisely elsewhere. Watches are not a good investment. Especially long term with compound interest etc...

·

This ll eventually go, so sell it when you are in dilemma and you won’t regret it later. Get something you’ll wear and also will be an investment.

·

Just keep it for that special occasion, or the day that you need some extra cash for an important investment. Don’t buy or sell on impulse.

So here's a great story....

I'm at a music festival and before we go into the festival, I meet up with friends and a friend of a friend shows up wearing a Milgauss.

I started talking to him about watches since he was a cool dude who had mutual friends and I asked him if he's worried about losing the watch since we were partying all day/night and his words were, "na man, it's the watch I wear to go fishing. I'm not worried about it."

I'm not that person since I can't afford to lose 15.000€, but neither can he, still his perspective was different from mine since he owned 3-4 other Rolex watches.

If you don't feel comfortable wearing the watch then you should not own it, never force yourself to do something you don't feel comfortable doing unless there is a better purpose to it.

If you have the ability to afford said watch then wear it and enjoy it, it's just money and it's just a watch. Stuff doesn't matter, people matter and making memories with friends and family matters, so make memories wearing that watch and remember them and treasure the watch not for its value, but for the memories you've made.

I have microphones and studio equipment that could have gotten me more than one Rolex, but they mean more to me than watches since I am a musician and music is what I love to do most, but those mics and pieces of gear are just a means to an end.

Also, watches suck as investments, park that money in the S&P 500 account from Fidelity (not financial advice) and watch it grow faster than any other asset you own unless you bought a house before Covid.

Cheers!

I have found that 99.5% of people take no interest in what watch I’m wearing regardless of what it is. I can count on one hand the number of times anyone noticed. That’s in the last 30 plus years.

Watches are for the wearer. And all that matters is how they make you feel!

·

Sell it. The fact that you don't feel right about wearing it is a feeling that comes from your gut. And there is no point of having it if it is going to be stuck in a drawer somewhere

·

The two main things I have to ask myself when buying a watch are:

1) do I feel feel comfortable spending this much (subject to change depending on how often I plan on wearing it)

2) do I feel comfortable wearing something that costs this much (which of course depends the context I plan on wearing it in)

If the answer is no, then that's fine, but maybe it's a sign that it isn't working for you. Or maybe you should keep it as a reminder?

Hi, I went through something similar with with my Sea Dweller about 2 months ago. I loved Rolex before and I was over the moon once I finally got it. Then excitement fell off slightly and I started to have doubts: is it safe to wear it? Maybe i can buy cheaper diver and use the rest of money on something useful? Maybe i should keep the watch in the closet and wear it only on special occasions so it is not scratched and can be sold for good money later?

My conclusion is this: I have an OK car by now, appartment and the watch did not ruin me (realizing this is the key I think). Now I wear this watch every day, it has some scratches (tiny ones, but new ones will come). I am starting to fall in love with it and the joy it gives me is growing. Every evening before i put it to night stand I stare at it for a while ☺️ So, if you have your priorities solved and have some safety net money, just wear it and enjoy it and miracles will happen 🙂 And for the worry of wearing expensive watch, I believe 99% of people really do not care what you wear…

·

Three things.

1. Try not to look at a watch as an investment. Buy it because you love it and will wear it. Investment pieces are generally not everyday watches because the owner tries to keep the watch in mint condition to gain as much value as possible. If you’re only looking at this watch as an investment piece, sell it and find something you will enjoy wearing everyday.

2. Try to think about what you liked about the watch. Was it the color way, the GMT function, or the logo/brand? Many other brands sell GMT watches of the same color way. If you don’t care about the brand, maybe take a look at those other brands to see if any of those offerings give you the same feelings at a lower price tag.

3. Insurance. I understand that wearing an expensive watch can be scary. I insure my expensive pieces for extra piece of mind. Also, I try to wear my expensive watches in settings where the likelihood of getting robbed is far less. I have other cheaper watches for traveling and such.

·

if you need the money sell but remember if you want to repurchase it later on it well likely cost you more.

·

Amazing #rolex

·

The more you wear it, the less this will be an issue and the feeling will likely go away entirely.
