Which NH movement would you chose and why?

So this is for a build, the focus will be on the dial (will be hand painted). Any NH movement can be used. So what to chose?

Is there a date or GMT function? If not, use the NH38.

As i have a few watches with the 35er i can recommend this one. Not that i ve any experience with the other two...

The thing is I basically chose what it should have my idea at the moment is having a gmt hand but not using the date wheel. The nh38 was my first choice so there is no ghost position, but I like complications :-)

If you want the GMT hand, I guess you need the NH34. You wouldn't have a ghost position, because it would be used to set the GMT hand. But I guess there would be a ghost function, turning the crown in the other direction.

I guess. Still unsure which way to go though.

If the build is about the dial, it’s gotta be the NH38, nothing to ghost…….

Depends on what functionality I want.

Tbh the complications of the nh series are rather limited but they are reliable and robust. I just can’t make up my mind what I want. The thing floating in my head is repainting the date wheel, for an entirely different function.

May I suggest you also think of NH36? That way you can play with two wheels for something fun.

That is true forgot about that 😅

Open caseback NH71. Paint the back of the dial where it's visible.

They are all functionally different. Chose by the function you want or availability. FWIW, removing the date wheel is trivial for an NH35.

·

It depends. Is there a day/date window on the dial? GMT function? If not, the NH38 is fine. With exhibition caseback probably NH70 or NH72.

·

Thanks for the great input with the nh70 and nh72

Nh34, Gmt, date

NH35 date

NH36 day date

Nh38 hours, min, second, open balance

·

What you making and do you want ghost positions at the crown ?

·

38 for a clean dial!

As much as possible IâÂÂd like to avoid them but there is also the possibility to convert the date wheel into an extension of the dial design. And IâÂÂm not the one making it, IâÂÂm the one putting in an order for a âÂÂbespokeâ watch. And so far I got some parameters from the watch designer. To not look like a deer in headlights, IâÂÂm trying to figure out what initial ideas I can brainstorm with him, before meeting later this month.

It depends on the dial, no date, date, day/date, GMT (bigger pinion hole). NH34 costs a bit more and tiny GMT numbers are hard to paint. Pretty much everyone just goes NH35 because the dials are so plentiful and cheap to practice on.

Throw in a custom rotor to go with your hand painted dial (or hand paint your own rotor)!

Between gbelleh and streak all has been said very exciting time ahead for you good luck in your creation and drop I pic when it's done my friend ðÂÂÂ

·

I voted nh35 but have a variation on the model. Certiga Works (modding side of crafter blue straps) has their cw05 which is a nh35 with cosmetic upgrades. I don't get a commission but KELLAN10 gets 10% off.

Thanks, estimated is 2-3 months, I will post the results WC.

Can't help here, you aren't giving us much info. My input from what we have is NH38. Handpainted dial, so I would assume you want to see as much as possible, so no GMT hand getting in the way, and no date window gives more real estate for painting. But if you want a date, NH35. And if part of the painting is fun with colors, adding a GMT hand gives another hand to play with colors.

·

I vote NH38 so you can have a full dial to paint not worring about dates or GMT markers

·

I absolutely loathe the NH35/36/38. Ridiculously thick, loose tolerances, not hi-beat and only fair PR. In my brain it is the lowest hanging fruit.

"Workhorse" is a nice way to say "inexpensive." Won't buy a micro utilizing them as is just either lazy design or a method to increase profit.

The NH34, I respect. Not as much as the Miyota 9075 but still a solid GMT movement.

·

No date only, but if given a choice skip NH all together.

·

NH38, I don't need that damned date window.
