This is too your father's watch . . .

Do you remember what watch your Dad wore, and/or a watch he gifted you and/or a watch you inherited from him?

Ive inherited my grandfathers Omega Seamaster from my dad. I've recently had it repaired serviced and polished. I plan to gift it to him for his 70th birthday.

Image

But I mostly remember my dad wearing a black canvass strapped Victorinox back in the 90s/00s. He'd probably still be wearing it if the lug hadn't snapped off

My dad wore a Tag Hauer. Never asked to look at it and he doesn’t wear watches anymore since his paralysis.

That is too beautiful. Convex dial? It's hard to tell from the photo.

I'm guessing he really enjoyed it. I used to have a TAG Heuer 1000. I sold it to buy a power amp.

Honestly, I think for him the watch was more for utilitarian purposes, rather than an enjoyable adornment.

My father wears cheap Timex watches, and occasionally a Citizen Eco-Drive. He's a retired fisherman, so he has no time for fancy watches. He wears his beat-up Timex in a suit, or in jeans and a T-shirt.

When I go home next month I plan to give him a Timex Expedition Field Solar, so his watch offends me slightly less... 😂

This was my Dad’s watch. His parents gave it to him on his 21st. I wear it with great pride on extra extra special occasions. It makes me feel close to him each time I do.

This is the watch he gave me in 1984, I still wear it regularly. My watch enthusiasm is all his fault 😌

This is my father’s watch. I wish we were the kind of family that could pass down Rolex or Pateks but we weren’t. The next generation might be luckier once I’m gone.

My dad never wore watches, but my mom got him one anyway. Basically sat in a drawer for 15 years and he ended up giving it to me when I left for college.

It’s a 1990’s Tag Heuer Professional quartz. It was pretty beat up from being in a drawer for so long, and the aluminum coke bezel was scratched up. Even though it was a quartz, I sent it in to Tag a couple years ago and got it fully serviced, polished, and replaced the bezel. They even found me an extra link from a discontinued bracelet which was pretty cool. I don’t wear it often anymore, but it’s a nice piece to have in the collection and I’ll never get rid of it

Inherited a few watches from him. My favorite among them being this kind of forgotten Turn-O-Graph nicknamed the "Thunderbird" which I like due to its rarity. Kept the watch unpolished to keep his memory my wrist. Every single scratch, blemish and dirt (gross as it may sound 😂) is a reminder of my late father whom I was extremely close to. Truly a special piece for sentimental reasons.

My dad - now 87 - still daily drives a Rolex Submariner which he got in about 1965, at the time he was a marine biologist based out of Aberdeen in Scotland researching cod stocks and then moved into diving and diving safety out of various companies including Comex, unfortunately he didn't get gifted a Comex Rolex but his good friend Georges did, Georges sadly died a couple of years ago and they were still firm friends.

It's strange for me seeing many people's grail watch as my old man's daily, he only has one watch and it's taken a lot of abuse over the years and is battered and scarred and properly used, I showed him one of Marshall's (Wristwatch Revival YouTube) videos on a Rolex GMT I think, v similar and it was brilliant to see him look from the TV to his wrist many times while watching the video, he had no idea it was so pretty inside, he's not changed and still uses it when hardening or chopping wood or whatever he's up to LOL.

My father wears either an Apple watch or a thin gold PP.

I can't do gold and I can't stand using anything from the Church of Jobs.

My dad passed away in 1986. He had a Timex on a Speidel Twist-o-flex. I don’t think I have it any more

I always liked the Twist-o-flex. The Earth used to crawl with them.

I posted these a few days ago, the Seiko quartz on the left was my grandfathers, the Tag pro quartz was my dads and my Ranger on the right. My grandfather was never ‘into’ watches but my dad has quite a collection going and sent me his tag, the first piece in that collection, when I told him I was getting interested in watches.

Three beauties.

90’s seiko kinetic, my sister and I got it for him for Father’s Day way back then. Now he doesn’t wear watches, work in progress trying to change that

·

He wore a Universal Geneve Polerouter and a Rolex Submariner. The latter, unfortunately, was stolen.

·

My dad wore a digital radiocontrolled Casio. It's with me now. Even though it's not my most worn watch (I'm careful with it, as it's the only watch that is literally irreplaceable) it will never leave the collection.

Just as precious as a Rolex in my humble opinion

My dads pre moon Speedmaster was passed down to me recently. He just wore as an everyday watch at work as a tradesman or at home. It needed a new bezel, new crystal, new bracelet and a probably long overdo service but the watch cleaned up really nicely.

·

I remember seeing my dad wear an older, but not at that time, GMT master. I remember seeing the glowing indicies when he would walk by my room at night. I always liked it.

I have a few watches from my dad, the Gruen is the prized possession

Looks great. Dial looks new, and there's a few authentic bezel scratches.

Look at that! You won't find a more distinctive watch than that. And look how well that beautiful engraving has held up.

I live close to Cincinnati, OH and I think at one time Gruen watches were made there. I always have my eye out for Gruen watches, but this is the most amazing one I've seen.
