Last post about this one. Bear with me...

So three weeks ago I went into Gassan, the Rolex AD at Schiphol Airport. I do this every 3 weeks or so for the last 6 months, since I am travelling back and forth for work. I asked about the watch I want (the Explorer) and most of the time they say 'No, sorry...' and I go my merry way. That time however, I was offered the new green DateJust (see my post about that here: https://www.watchcrunch.com/rowiphi/posts/the-day-i-refused-a-rolex-19876 )

I did not buy that watch, but it made me more confident that there was a possibility of buying a watch without being on a waiting list or other nonsense. This was confirmed by another source, the Dutch podcast 'Mannen van de Tijd' where Robert Jan Broer (founder of Fratello) said that the AD's at Schiphol Airport were selling Rolex watches to walk-in clients. (Link here for Dutchies https://open.spotify.com/episode/6R2PCy42dmWuOMOmGjgr6q?si=140a755899e5422c )

So I had some expectations when I walked in yesterday, but not too much... I was very pleasantly surprised when they said they did had the steel Explorer! Fun fact: the bracelet was adjusted to my size by sending the watch through a pneumatic tube transport to the watchmaker on a different location. Another surprise for me was the prize. I thought I wasn't eligible for tax deduction, because I still live within the EU. But apparently the Canary Islands are an exception and I had to pay €1240,- less. Yes please!

So here I am, happy as a pig in shit... Happy Sunday everyone!

Congrats, this is awesome.

The staff there is amazing! Whilst I was waiting, we started chatting about the madness around Rolex and they dissed up some horror stories... Mostly flippers who buy a cheap ticket and then hover around the place for hours. They refused 200 'clients' before 10:30 last February... And since they don't do waiting lists, they are just very happy for everyone who buys (and plan to use!) their watches! And they knew what they were talking about and immediately recognised and complimenting my bronze Tudor.

It must have taken an iron will to turn down the DJ! Really glad it worked out for you and you got the Explorer.

Yep, iron will, that's me... 😂

Congratulations! Good for you for waiting for what you really wanted. I wish my Explorer got sized by a pneumatic tube…

·

That's a great story... Congratulations

Congrats, dude!

Congratulations on a gorgeous watch! A personal favorite of mine. I wear the Explorer II only because my daughter fell in love with my new 36mm Explorer I and I gave it to her.

That's a very good reason to give your watch away! 🥰

I totally agree! Of course I plan to ask my AD to put me on the list again.  I know it's more than selfish. The Explorer I  in 36mm is as close to perfection as you can get IMO. Enjoy an incredible watch!

So, today they have 2 in stock, and not the one I'm looking for... Milgauss (though it's here for exhibition only)

Are they allowed to sell them? I thought they were not allowed since they are discontinued.

·

Good question. Why only for exhibition if it's discontinued? They could not sell.
