Watch brand you'll never buy & why?๐Ÿง

Lets get controversial..

Rolex. Too spendy on secondary & I'm not playing the AD games; which translates to "They aren't marketing to me."

ยท

Rolex. The last thing I want is to be referred to as "That guy there with the Rolex". Also kind of boring and progress to fugly when you add cyclops, jubilee and fluted bezels.

ยท

Bremont. Don't like the pricing and the made up history that comes with the brand.ย

ยท

Tudor. Their design language doesn't speak to me whatsoever. I don't think there is a watch in their catalog I really like. I kinda appreciate the heritage chronographs because I like the quirky colorways and the fact that they don't have snowflake hands but the watches are so thick I certainly don't love them. Also, I like the North Flag, but they don't make it anymore. I hate snowflake hands and I would constantly think I compromised by getting a Tudor rather than a Rolex.ย

ยท

Panerai. Big, bulky, So-so on their designs, and there's always another dive watch that I'd rather get insteadย

ยท

Panerai. ย Their management team holds their customers in open contempt.

ยท

Kobold is a hard no, if they're even still in business.

I'm getting over the bad taste from MKII's zillion-year plank debacles, but I still don't think I'm quite ready.

ยท

Seiko. I just find a better alternative to every Seiko. I want a collection of watches that I wonโ€™t ever feel the need to trade up.ย

For me, there are two well-regarded brands that I would not consider purchasing based on their current offerings, regardless of price.ย

The first is Panerai. While I like cushion case watches in general, I find Panerai's designs to be lazy and I really dislike the brand's signature crown guards of their dive watch offerings.ย

The second is F.P. Journe. Despite the masterful engineering, there is little else that attracts me to the watches. Their moto "invenit et fecit" (invented and made) is far too pretentious for my tastes; the font on the printing of their dials is tepid and too large; many of the dials are dominated by the lengthy text from the tepid and oversized font; the hands are a bit boring; and the watch faces appear to be a little too small compared with the case sizes. The engineering genius is let down by F.P. Journe's design team.ย

I would say Rolex but it's not like I have the opportunity to buy one. Kind of like taking credit for being faithful in my marriage. I know in my heart I would be faithful regardless but it's not like I have had much opportunity. ย If I ever got the call on the GMT Pepsi (3+ years on the list), that would be a real test.ย

Richard Mille, Hublot, Rolex - don't ever want a watch that any muggle could possibly recognize.

ยท

Easy.

Anything that you pay 100 times fold on the dollar for its stainless steel machined value.

Itโ€™s just a bad deal ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

The truth is, I couldnโ€™t even make it as far as 10 times fold.

But bad humor aside, thatโ€™s not why weโ€™re here, is it?
Hopeless romantics for the kinetic artsโ€ฆย

Probably many but I focus on the ones Iโ€™m interested in and maybe buy.

ยท

Rolex (and any other brand that makes buying the watch difficult at expensive price points).

Even if I end up in a situation where I would be willing to spend that much on one watch, Rolex won't be my choice. Having to be on waitlists and stuff to blow that kind of money on a watch of all things is ridiculous. If I'm giving them that much money, I should at least be able to buy the product without hassle.

ยท

Invicta. Their designs are either copied or are horrible And there are 100,000 models available at all times. ย They have an RRP that is almost double any price they would expect to get on the market.ย

ยท

Also, not a fan of Tag Heuer. They seem like they are priced purposely higher than warranted in order to cater to a specific non-watch collecting clientele.ย

+1. ย Right now my focus is on what I like and I think I will enjoy and that I can buy. ย And this includes Rolex (at retail) or an Escapement Time Flieger homage for $160. ย I want to experience as much as I can.

ยท

I immediately think of Rolex. Mostly for emotional reasons. I can walk into a store and buy an Omega, (well, I can't, it's not in the budget) I don't have to get on a waiting list to be part of the "club". Also, they are kinda "meh" or so over the top bling I just can't. If I had that kind of cash I would get a Jaeger Le Coultre. I find their watches more appealing as well as the history of JLC is more interesting to me.

ยท

There is probably not one watch brandmi wouldn't buy. ย I buy what I like, and there seems to be something I like in all the brands out there. ย The only watch I wouldn't buy would be a FAKE/COPY watch. ย Totally unacceptable for me. ย Each to their own though.
