Who wears the Speedy as a daily driver?

Who wears a Moonwatch as a daily driver? Or even as a #1wc?

I’m biased because it’s my grail, but I’m increasingly thinking that this could be a great daily watch. Yeah, more than 50m of WR would be nice, but looking at my own wearing habits over the last few weeks, it’s not actually necessary.

It’s versatile with straps. Dings and scratches give it character. The only downside I can see is that it’s harder to dress up than dress down; it’s a good do-it-all but it favors the casual side more. All watches have to favor casual or dressy, after all.

Any Crunchers do this?

If you like to wear it, wear it: That's what it's for. Don't be scurred! 😉

·

I wore mine regularly for several years, though never every day. WR is irrelevant to me on a routine day, and what's the point of owning it if you're not going to wear it.

·

I dont wear mine as a daily, but I wear it very often. The water resistance is a bit of an issue for me because I have little kids and I have to take it off for baths or if they have liquids. Haha.

Get a sapphire sandwich and you can wear it every day without worry I’d recommend the hessalite as part of a collection simply as it’s closer to the watch worn on the moon but the sapphire has the view of that spectacular movement. It’s a great size and you can change how it looks with just about any strap it will always look amazing. I sold my sapphire and replaced it with a hessalite as my collection grew but I’ve been considering going back to sapphire and cutting my collection right back and it would become my daily watch. Got side tracked by a grand seiko so not sure if I’m ready yet 😂

The sapphire is tempting. Played around with a Seagull 1963 and realized how neat it is to see the movement working. So much more interesting than an automatic three-hander.

The whole "problem" (OK, it really isn't a problem) is if I do, when do I wear my Rolex, or my Brietling, other Omegas, Tudors, etc.... 😂😉

I’m sure you can’t get a better view under £15k the movement is beautiful. I Do miss it

I wear mine as a daily for office and casual events but not thinks like trekking or anything more thats beater territory

·

I don't wear mine daily, only because I rotate between other watches in my collection. I don't believe I've ever worn it more than 2-3 days in a row. That being said it could be a daily.

You could do what I did and make a hybrid ("hesalite sandwich") with the 3861. A company called Spiralwinder makes an aftermarket sapphire caseback for the 3861 Speedmaster. The build quality is nice, and it's just as thin as the solid caseback. I finally decided to get brave and try one; it installed nicely (perfect threading, etc) and passed a pressure test without issue. This makes for the perfect configuration for my tastes

Omega has stated that when they say the 3861 Speedmaster is water resistant to 50meters they mean exactly that.

Can’t find the reference on the omega site, but have included link to Fratello article below.

So once you don’t use the pushers you could swim with it.

Do I swim with mine? Not so far, but would now consider it now. Maybe for a splash in a lake after a hike. Happy to do the dishes with it on and not too precious with it around water. However for anything where it would get knocked around it’s nice to have a g-shock or similar. Polywatch works wonders on the hesalite crystal.

👋 I do. It’s by far my most expensive watch and gets more than half my wrist time. Until a few months ago it was my #1wc

It was a watch I’d wanted since I was 10 and almost 30 years later I was able to get one. _Any_ strap looks amazing and can change the personality of the watch drastically so it fits into any situation.

I have acquired a couple other watches very recently that have stolen some wrist time but there’s no question if I only had 1 watch, it would be my Speedmaster.

I’ve taken mine in the pool several times - nothing deeper than 10ft because that’s what we have - and no issues. Just give it a nice rinse with fresh water afterwards

I do not but the thought has crossed my mind. I genuinely think that I'd be okay with having the speedy as my only watch for the rest of my life. It's an absolute strap monster thus making it perfect for any occasion with a simple strap change.

·

I own a speedy, not this exact model but that doesn’t matter. I don’t wear it as a daily but once a week. It’s too nice for a daily in my opinion. I wear it on business meetings or on the weekend casually. I really love it and it’s just an amazing classic watch. You will never regret getting a speedy!

·

I own the 3861 Sapphire sandwich. It gets more wrist time than any of my other watches. I took it to Kansas City for the weekend as my only watch. We went to fancy dinners and fun clubs and I wore it everywhere. I finished the trip up knowing this could be an everyday piece (but I love my other watches too).

I would not be scared to swim with it, but I don’t because I have other watches that are purpose built to survive long after I have drown.

·

I have no issue wearing my hesalite Speedy anywhere (except the beach when I know I'll be in the water/ that's why we have Dive watches). I've even dunked it (with me attached) in the pool. First scratch was painful but after that, it was great. Scratches on the hesalite don't bother me because I can leave them for character or wipe them away with a little polywatch.

·

I do. It’s perfect, end of story.

·

I have the 2022 sapphire sandwich. I don’t wear it daily, but it’s in heavy rotation for sure, 2-3 days per week. Great watch and a great feeling of adventure and ability to do the incredible when I wear it.

·

Dead on …..

·

I live in NYC and it’s summer. I’m afraid to even wear my quartz PRX till it’s time for long sleeves and jackets. 😅

That’s a good shout thanks I will take a look 👍

·

I don't have one but I think it'd be a great daily driver. And I think it'd be fine with a suit, as it will lend a sporty edge to your attire. 👍

I’ve been wearing my 3523.80 Speedy as a daily while my Seamaster is in for warranty work. It’s been fun and I like it but it definitely gets taken off a lot for “activities” where the Seamaster does everything.

·

I wear mine quite often it is usually in rotation so a few times a month. The newest version have the most cofortable bracelet I have found and i also have a black custom strap for it.
