"Everyone needs a Speedmaster in their collection"

Even though I find that sentence really snobby and very stupid, I am starting to lust after a Moonwatch again. Seeing the new white dial at the Omega boutique yesterday made something shift in my mind. The new white dial might be just a white dial, but Omega really managed to change the right details and keep the important ones. The implementation really impressed me, I have to say. And the wearability is really good for a watch this size. Now I just have to decide on which of the three variants I want (hesalite, sapphire or white).

Anyone else after the new white dial? Or got one already?

I hear that said frequently and they just never grew on me. I've tried them on numerous times and they just don't work for me. I'll still give the white dial a try

I don’t have one yet. But the white dial is going to be the watch that makes me open my primary collection. I’m probably a year out from the purchase. But this is the next luxury watch I’m planning on buying.

The white dial is actually quite different to the black one. Not matte, a bit more shiny and has red details. The black one is traditionally a bit more sterile, but the white doesn't have to adhere to any historical reference. Will be interesting to know how you find it 👍🏻

Actually nobody needs a Speedmaster in their collection. But this is one beautiful watch and I think almost everyone would want to have one. Black dial Speedmaster was on my list of watches to get, but I think I would rather get this one instead.

The new one looks gorgeous

I've heard that before too. I find it to be incredibly arrogant when casually referring to a $10,000 watch.

Think about that for a second - Ten thousand dollars (Canadian).

Even pre-loved they run around $6,000+ for a well-kept example of the older generation.

Your post comes at a time when I am very seriously considering adding a Speedmaster to my life. It's a watch I've always admired from afar, but am considering as a once-in-a-lifetime, end-game watch for me. (Black hesalite version). This means going back to one watch again. This watch. (Well, this plus my GShock. For reasons).

Even then I'll be going older, pre-owned, and very likely without box, papers, and the like in order to keep the cost down. Those still range around $5000 on Chrono24.

But this is to mark a full-on career change, and will take me into my retirement (if that ever happens).

In my opinion no one “needs” any particular watch. It’s all about “want” unless your job or livelihood depends on one.

Very nice! I'd consider a Moonwatch to be a great Exit Watch, if you really stay with it. Looking forward to seeing it when you go for it 👍🏻

The manual wind is what deters me. I think I would go for an older black dial automatic Speedy, pre owned of course.

Interesting. I live the fact that it's manual wind. Especially with a large crown

I am just lazy I think!

Haha if you have more than one automatic watch, chance is you'll have to set the time after not wearing it for a while, so also work 😂

I had a Speedmaster that I wore everyday for about a year. During that time I learned that I don’t like Chronographs at all. Now I don’t have a Speedmaster in my collection and I am much happier for it. All of that aside this is one sexy watch.

Totally understandable. I've gotten used to 36 to 38mm very light watches, so I'd need to get used to a heavy Chrono again....

·

I own a chronograph and the only function I use it for is to tell the time.

Few people need a chronograph. Those who do most likely use a digital one instead, as it would be more accurate.

Chronographs such as the Speedmaster are pretty much just for esthetics. Most people are perfectly content not having a Speedmaster in their collection.

I’m definitely lusting after the new white dial after seeing one in person. The applied indices and red lettering look so nice. I feel like it adds something I always missed from the black dial.

·

As cool as they are I couldn’t get behind the aluminum bezel and the 50m water resistance

·

What boutique was it in?

The Omega Boutique in Munich. But the one I tried on was already sold and they said there were 100 people on some list. I'd expect that white dial should be readily available by the middle of the year, since it's not limited and Omega are strongly marketing it.

·

I have owned a couple of speedmasters and sold them. I might give the white dial a try!

Did you sell them just to try something different, or was there something you didn't like about the Moonwatch specifically?

Yeah it might just be a dial color change and some details no normal person would see. Even the woman from the boutique kept asking me what's so special about the white dial, because she doesn't get it. But those details make all the difference once you see them 😂

Yeah, the 50m is also what annoys me. I find for an 8k€ watch, they should.offer more than 5bar. I know they want to stay close to the original in specs, but they also introduced sapphire. Plus others are able to produce a Chrono with 10bar WR, so why not Omega

·

The white dial, while hyped, really is great.

·

I always liked the vintage models, I'm not totally liking the obsession with it being on the moon, fundamentally, it's a racing watch

Yeah, I'm mostly underwhelmed by hyped up watches, when seeing them irl for the first time. But was pleasantly surprised here

I slid the to try something different. Excellent watches, I just moved on as the didn’t click with me.

I don’t know if “expert” or “junkie” is the right adjective here!?! Hahaha- Thank you so much though! I just posted some macros of this one for your viewing pleasure if you want to check them out 🙏

Have a little patience and wait till later in the year. Economy is knackered, luxury market is in the toilet. Once the hype tapers off (probably straight after W&W in a few weeks) these will be available easily. In the U.K. at least 😂🙌

Yeah, think so too. No chance I'm paying MSRP or even over for it 😉

I think we've talked about used prices on Speedys in the past, but I just saw 2 different last gen Speedys sell this week. One was $3400 and the other was $3600. Both in excellent condition. This is US dollars, but there are absolutely deals out there if you're patient.

Edit: Adding that I found many more for under $4,000. The last 5 that sold were $3200, $3300, $3600, $3450, and $2950. These were all in the last week. Out of the last 15 I've seen sold, only 1 of them was over $4000.
