Honestly, most watches will look pretty big from this angle. My maximum is 47mm lug-to-lug, and whenever I take wrist shots, my watches look like they're taking up all the space on my wrist, but when viewed in a mirror I see way more real estate.
I wore a Swatch Gent during my five-day trip to Rome last summer. I had just come from Switzerland so I had taken my other Swiss watches there for a homecoming of sorts, but they never left my suitcase while I was in Italy.
I love my Everest but I have to say that part of me thinks that San Martin did the 1016 homage a bit better.
Curious about what you mean by the watch being "course" vs the Smiths -- is this just the crown operation, or are there other qualities that make the watch give off this vibe?
Honestly, I liked the look of the Hodinkee cap, but when I saw the price I thought, yep, that's Hodinkee alright.
I'll stick with my current cap, thank you (never mind that it's a bit too small so I don't really use it).
