Why so serious?

Why do so many of us buy a watch that is rather dull and serious by design, instead of a watch that has colored and structured dials?

Personally, I would get tired of just wearing one or the other, so it probably make sense to have both variants in a collection. You grab the one that tickles your fancy that particular morning.

How about you? Variations or leaning into one of the general design domains?

I think your tastes change with age as well. When I was young it was gadgets and gimmicks which drew me to a watch now its quality and value.

But I would say most of my watches are probably on the conservative or dull side of things. But I do like the idea of adding colour and whimsy to my collection but it's then back to how much disposable income I have and do I gamble on colour and whimsy with the limited money I have to put to it or play it safe with dull

My Pogue is the most outrageous coloured watch I own. I'm not flashy & blingy /eye-catching watches just aren't my style.

Am thinking of adding something a little colourful, maybe a Moonswatch or Thrifty Fathoms for very occasional wear 🤔

·

Dull makes it easier to style, and reduce my collection size as well

The most colourful dial of any watch in my present stash is a copper or salmon face on my Breitling Datora which I finally added just last December, I am not against being playful with colours in my life but feel that bright colours will not stand the test of time when it comes to my timepieces. I have supported Breitling watches for decades with my disposable dollars was keen to purchase another Navitimer when the most recent model was launched a few years ago but there were design elements that did not draw my credit card out including colourful dial options through 3 different case sizes. My ad whose family have made a comfortable living selling luxury watches since moving the original business to Canada from their native Italy informs me the 46mm Black dial Navitimer outsells all the other versions by a considerable number.

At the beginning ı found them dull and leaned towards colorful variations but know boring watches feel more valuable to me

I have big/small watches, bright/dull watches and simple/complicated watches. Isn't that the point of a collection and what makes it fun.

Wow: "...the 46mm Black dial Navitimer outsells all the other versions by a considerable number."

I went with extremes: A restrained and versatile piece was followed by a quirky colourful one, and then back to sensibility and blandness. But I think I've found my preferred balance of character and class now.

I'm a man of my upbringing, so simple and functional is right up my street! Ex military with my peli as daily driver and my Audi 🤷🏾‍♂️

·

The good majority of my collection is what many would call "basic watches." There can be some real beauty in simplicity.

I admit that if I were to buy a next Navitimer a black 46mm would be a strong first option.

Variety is always better 😎

You can always buy from Invicta if you’re looking for a good time 🤣

Dull and serious vs colored and structured?

Cannot a "serious" watch also be structured? Cannot a dull watch also be colored? Cannot a structured watch be dull or serious?................?????

Here’s some color…..🤣😂

·

I like a dial that works with a lot of straps. A loud watch kind of boxes in your strap choices.

·

change things up with colorful nato straps. cheap and bold for the win.

·

Subtle brings less attention to me, which is a win in my books
