Anyone own a Detroit Mint?

I’ve been interested in a panda chrono for a while, but until now I’d yet to see one that grabs me by my cheeks and says “kiss me you fool” when I loo...

Scratching the itch with a new band.

Over the last week or so, I’d been eyeing a couple of 38mm black dial watches on black leather straps. It felt gluttonous given that I’ve already boug...

commented on What is the typical price range in which you purchase your straps? ·

If I’m buying a rubber or leather strap, in my experience it’s worth it to pay more (typically at least $50) in order to get something that’s both comfortable and resilient. If I’m buying a Nato, I never spend more than $25, because there‘s no reason to. Archer straps in particular are surprisingly good, especially considering that you can often get them for around $15.

commented on What’s your beater watch?? ·

I have a lot of Casios that all get used as beaters now and again, because I can replace most of them for around $20. If I want to wear something mechanical, inexpensive, and rugged but still looks great, I wear my Orient Mako II.

commented on What watch band/strap would you go with? ·

I have an Uncle Seiko tropic, and it just won’t break in. After more than a year it still gets to be uncomfortable if I wear it all day, so there’s that to consider. Maybe the waffle will be different, but my experience has soured me to US a bit.

commented on Higher end Chinese watches? ·

That’s what holds me back from seriously considering watches like this one and the Ciga Blue Planet. They’re neat watches and blow the claim that all Chinese watches are poor quality out of the water, but what happens in a few years when you need to service it? It’s not just Chinese watches, either. Take Bulova. They’re still alive and kicking, but even with the kind of heritage they have it’s hard to find anyone who can service a vintage Spaceview.

I like the bezel on the Descent model quite a bit.

I think resin has taken base metals’ spot when it comes to inexpensive case materials.

This is my lunch break every day.

I don’t think I’d ever actually wear this watch. It’s a rude dude, though, and I want it just so I can take it out of the watch box and stare at it fr...

New here

Hi WatchCrunch! I thought I’d share my newest acquisition for my first watch shot. This is my Dan Henry 1970, and I’m chuffed to bits about it.
