Do you want a watch you’d never wear?

I don’t think I’d ever actually wear this watch. It’s a rude dude, though, and I want it just so I can take it out of the watch box and stare at it from time to time. I can’t even put my finger on what exactly I like about it, or why I’m also pretty sure I’d never actually wear it. Yet the fact remains that I wants it for my birthday present.

Am I a nutter, or do any of you also have a watch that you very much want to own despite being sure you wouldn’t wear it?

Cartier Santos, Breitling Navitimer, Tudor Pelagos.

Eh -- I fixed my old Blue Angels Skyhawk Titanium up last year. Still don't wear it much anymore, but I'm glad that I got it back running again, anyway.

I know what you mean. Not sure if wear it either, but there’s something about it that is so appealing. It’s simply awesome.

I have a few watches in my collection which I bought simply because I thought they were cool, and which I hardly ever wear. One of them is the Seiko SNA411 Flightmaster - there is just something about the business of the dial that appeals to me.

I'm going to have to say, No. I am a firm believer in using the things I buy for their intended purpose.

For example: I also collect airguns. About 10 years ago, I acquired an airgun that was made in 1934. A friend asked me if I was going to hang it on the wall, or put it into a display case. I told him "No, I intend to replace the leather O-ring with a silicone version, replace the front sight, re-lubricate the main spring, and give it to my son, so he'll have a good air rifle to learn to shoot with."

So if I buy a watch, I will definitely endeavor to wear it as much as possible.

I'd love a Navitimer, I'm not a pilot nor do I have any need for all the sliding ruler bezel and it's too big for my wrist, but I still want one anyways.

I'd love a JLC reverso, I just think they look awesome and dual face ones are even better, but again, I'm not sophisticated enough to ever need one, nor do I have any swanky dinner parties to go to that would require me to flip the face, but I still want one!

I think if you actually boil it down to divers, chronographs, field and pilots watches, how many of us watch nuts are actually divers or timing officials or soldiers or pilots? Not many, definitely in the minority, then technically none of us really use them for their intended purpose, so I wouldn't worry about it!

I love the Max Bill. Tried it on, doesn't suit me. Too dainty, too dressy. Still, what a sweet ticker *sigh*

I think the Swatch Sistem51 and the Tissot Swissmatic are kinda cool, but the knowledge that their movements are destined for the trash rubs me the wrong way. At least the Powermatics are serviceable in theory
