First new watch after Joining the WC community

Hi Everyone!

I’ve been a member for just under 2 months and haven’t made an official first post. This watch has invoked mixed feelings amongst enthusiasts due to the choice of crystal. I was a huge fan of this whatch’s vintage inspired design sense it’s release, but I didn’t pull the trigger until I heard about the introduction of the new movement. The addition of the jumping hour hand clinched the deal. Happy to share this unboxing pic with WatchCrunchers everywhere!

Once I have a chance to size it and give it a little wrist time, I'll repost and provide an honest review!

·

Wow that looks great! It was sold out by the time I made it to the website 😭. Looking forward to your review!

·

I like it, but no sapphire would stop me at the price. Lovely watch though.

·

Nice watch, enjoy.

I have the original with the Soprod and I love it. Everyone flips put over the crystal choice but I feel it adds to the retro inspired era of watchmaking that these watches are built from. Love the brand!

Let us know how you like the watch. I am looking at the new Hydra 3 now and love that it comes with hesalite and polywatch (but don't like the fact that there is nowhere to see and try the watch on).

Personally, I prefer hesalite because of the retro look, distortion, and the fact that any scratches are easy to polish out (the hesalite on my Speedy is great).

Hi Rochetfan,

Will do! I would would also prefer trying on a watch before buying it. My issue is that the microbrand companies are putting out some awesome pieces that the local AD's simply don't offer. So , my choices is to not get the watch because I can't try it on or I roll the dice and hope for the best. In this case, I'm glad I went for it. I watched a tone of reviews and when the window opened on the 21st of July I was first in line.

·

Agreed. Congrats on the watch, they look spectacular.

Soon for me too.....🤘🏻🤙🏻😎

Over the last few days, lots of crystal talk. To each their own, I've come to prefer it. No oil/viscous fluids smudges, no need for AR, can buff out scratches, much warmer to the touch and pallette, makes colors pop, love the distortion and vibe.

I've said before, and I'll say it again...

I'm prolly not the exact end user intended for their watches, but I love mine to death. And I use it, harder than some would be comfortable with. No watch is perfect, and there will always be critiques. And even with some of the rotor noise and magnetization I've experienced, I recommend Lorier always, full stop.

This is 1.5 - 2-ish years of wear btws.....and no Polywatch yet...

Edit: Still get smudges, just not on the same level as sapphire.

Edit 2: I still wear my sapphire and mineral crystal watches and enjoy them..just have found to thoroughly enjoy Acrylic, more than the haute, sapphire or death crowd from reddit, Watchuseek, et al said I would.

Sweet! Great minds...lol

·

For those that doubt the readability...same watch under regular appearance (i.e.- not stupid bright light, specifically wanting to catch whirls, scratches, etc)

That looks great! My opinion is, if the watch that went to the moon had hasalite, anthing else is just nice to have. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Congrats on the new watch - a fine pick indeed! 🎉

Thank you!

Neither my Hyperion nor my Falcon have scratched yet and Polywatch has been provided with both of them. Great purchase! I love my Hyperion Skyhawk too, though with the Soprod since I decided I preferred 2mm thinner and estimated that the price difference would have been less important (25% less expensive for the Miyota version, quite a deal!)

·

Great choice! Thanks for sharing.

Lorier is a really excellent independent brand that cares about its collectors and provides great value.

Being a fan of vintage watches, I really enjoy how they are inspired by historical designs without homaging them.

I never worry about the hesalite crystals...if you collect vintage watches, you get used to that being the only option.

Here are a few I have in my collection...

I ordered a Skyward myself and like you, i wanted a GMT watch with the new Miyota 9075.

I was a bit surprised the Black Gilt dial was the first to sell out, and they the Hydra III just after the Hodinkee article.

The Skyward is still available but i thought this one would sell out faster

I figured that both variants would both be sold out within the first few hours. That being said, i no idea how many of each were available for sale on the 21st. I’m happy that I was able to get one and that it was delivered internationally within a few days.

Before and after using PolyWatch on my Speedy! I wear my Speedy everyday and I don’t baby it. I was initially nervous about getting the hesalite, which I think most people are until you get one. It’s not only easy to buff out, but what most people don’t tell you (except for @solidyetti he’s the first that I’ve seen ever say the same thing) is that although it’ll pick up little hairline scratches easily, you don’t really notice those little scratches most of the time you look at your watch. You really have to catch them with a glare at the right angle (like above) in order to even see most of them. So to me, it’s definitely worth it in order to have that vintage look to a watch. And like Lorier puts it on their website, if it’s good enough for Astronauts, it’s good enough for me!
