Wrist side: Does it matter?

Some people like to criticise here on social media that I shouldn’t be wearing watches on my right wrist, unless I’m a left handed. It looked awkward, and that they can’t stand to see the crown pinching down my skin.

I tell them that I’m not a left handed. As a scuba diving Instructor, I’m so used to having a dive watch-computer on my dominant hand so as to keep alert on no decompression limits at all times underwater. I’m so used to it that I find more comfort of having a watch on my right wrist, naturally.

Questions: Does it matter whether it’s the left or right wrist? What’s right and what’s wrong?

Do what you want and what feels comfortable to you. Don’t worry about what anyone else says (even me, saying this 😏).

·

Honestly, no one cares or really notices. It’s up to the wearer. As long as you feel comfortable, it’s good.

·

Do what works for you

There was a thread on a bathroom 'wiping' question you may be interested in.. 😂

I think generally, the concept of wearing watches on the non-dominant hand was to protect the watch. The more you use the dominant hand, the more likely you may be to affect the watch.

I imagine most of us take off our watches to set the time on occasion, so I don't think crown operation is too big an issue for right-wristers. But I guess manual wind watches could look a bit awkward to wind with a traditional crown worn in the right wrist..

I think also handwriting all day could be a little less comfortable - when do we ever do that anymore..

·

Wear it round your ankle if it makes you happy 😊

I'm right handed, so wear on my left. The only time I find it frustrating is reviewers showing off a watch on the opposite side to me, which makes it harder to visualise how it'd look on me. But that's only a small niggle.

·

Wear it on whichever wrist you prefer.

But remember, we WILL be silently judging you.

·

Answer, YES it matters

·

I will just assume that you are living in denial of your sinister nature.

It's sad that people are so petty. When I read it, all I could think was "WoW, are some people really that ridiculous"......but, I guess they are. This watch crunch platform is the only social media I'm involved with.......I was hoping the ignorance wouldn't spread over here.

·

As stated above, most people wear the watch on the non-dominant hand in order to protect the watch. The practice was born out of function, not fashion or just simple preference.

But if you're most comfortable wearing your watch on your dominant hand, then do so. It's your watch & your wrist.

·

I don't understand how people can tell you how you're supposed to wear your watch. Sure usually righties wear their watch on their left wrist. Does it mean it's bad to wear it on your right wrist? No.

Do what you want man!

I had to pause reading to go throw up it was so horrible

·

I’m right handed and wear my watch on my right wrist. Always have. Just feels better to me.

·

The general idea is to wear the watch on the non dominant hand because you use your dominant hand for most activities and the watch could be a hinderance but really there’s no right or left way.

And they were already informed of this and issued their mea culpa

Now it's my turn to do a mea culpa. But I can't get to these threads fast enough and I'm certainly not patient enough to read through all the replies, lol!

Fuck the haters.

·

I’m a lefty and wear on my right wrist and I’ve always had trouble understanding the downside of having the crown on my forearm versus the back of my hand. It’s never bothered me in the least with any watch.

·

I'm left handed and wear my watch on my right wrist. I'd love a left handed watch but I think it might be backards.

·

Your Watches your rules yo wear your pieces in the way you feel confortable

·

Wear it how you want to, heck wear it on your ankle if you want to it’s your watch.

·

haha, the way I do it is the right way 🙄 obviously 😜.

·

Wear your watch to whichever side feels comfortable.

The dedicated lhd models are nice for inclusivity though.

·

Best place to put your watch on is wherever the heck you feel like putting it on 👍🏽😁

·

As an actual scuba diver, you can easily turn the discussion around on those desk-diving critics 😋

·

The quick answer is, wear it where you like. For practical reasons though - for example, writing with your right hand - your watch is better off on the left so its not being mashed into the tabletop and dragged around and getting scratched up while you're doing that. But again, wear it where you like. If you enjoy explaining to people that you're a scuba instructor, and it's part of your personality, keep it where it is.

·

Doesn’t matter at all. I switched to wearing my watch on the left wrist following a broken arm a long time ago and kept it that way for years and never had a single comment about it.

·

I’m right handed but sometimes I wear my watch on my right hand , it depends how I feel that day

·

You already trained yourself to have a weight strapped to your right hand so it sounds normal to me. As the hip people say, you do you, man. And eff the haters. 🍻
