IWC Ingenieur 40

Had the opportunity to try on the all new #iwc #ingenieur 40 recently announced at WW2023. Perfect size and proportions. Wraps around the wrist like a dream and the polishing and dial scream quality. One of the three classic integrated bracelet sports watches designed by #geraldgenta in the 70s. Immediately sold and preordered. Not sure how long the wait is though.

White dial looks better in photos but the black dial looks better in the flesh.

I can’t get on board with the pricing unfortunately. It’s now a cash grab with Genta, except these guys are like 5 years behind so they need to catch up.

·

Did anybody else see the paid advertisment of this watch in the guise of a review from the guys at about effin time?

·

For the pre-order were you already able to pay a deposit and have your allocation confirmed? I also contacted my boutique to pre-order and have been placed on the "order interest" list at the IWC boutique in Singapore whilst allocation priorities are worked through.

Those guys have been praising Hublot lately out of nowhere and saying they are value luxury brand. Many YouTubers are going nuts with paid promotion lately and its not fun watch anymore.

The previous model was $6400 now it’s $15,200. I don’t see any improvement that justifies that kind of increase.

I was in love with it on day1.

Cool down, look at how much IWC is asking for Mark XX with steel bracelet, exactly half of the steel ingenieur, and my brain stops functioning...

Yes the Ingenieur is probably a better made product with more finishing details. But double the price of a similar package from within IWC? Can't justify it...

Yup. It’s a nice watch, no doubt. It has its own DNA and lineage which is great, but I just can’t see the price jump justification here. Maybe going from $6 to $8k, sure. But up to $12?

I guess I can understand it in a way. YouTube is making it harder for people to earn through the platform so they have to get paid somehow. Just be honest about it!

I think it's fair if you call me a sheep and a shill - but I personally am moving away from Hublot hate through the years. Would I buy one? No, but I still respect what they do.

There's a lot of Hublot hate around and I get it, put an ETA movement in something flashy, it's lacking substance and a lot of people aren't going to like that. But giving credit where credit is due: rubber straps, ceramic cases, sapphire cases, it's a cool territory to be in if you like that some of those things. As an Asian person, Hublot is well loved in my community, it's not the same in the Western world, but we still don't yuck other's yum.

It's no secret that I am a fan of IWC, owning several of their watches, but I think the points that AET make are valid concerns and simply valid opinions. I've been pushing for a Ingenieur personally for the last 4 years and I'm thrilled they are making one. Do I agree with the pricepoint? Not from the photos at least, but I agree that at this price, it is competing with the GP's value stance.

I must admit that when I saw the release on Monday, as a Genta fanboy, I thought it was super attractive, I showed my wife and told her that I was getting the green dial for sure. When my wife asked about the price I told her maybe around 7,000-8,000 CHF (which would make sense). But after I saw the the starting price, I was turned off right away. Yeah sure 5 days power reserve is impressive, but totally unnecessary, who needs that?

I don't usually say anything bad about a watch, and I love IWC. But this release is just too little, too expensive and too late to the game (like 15-20 years late).

Similar for Hong Kong. I got a pre-order confirmation email without paying any deposit.

To be perfectly honest Hublot is so far out of my price range that I don't even bother looking at images of them. I have no opinion on them either way. I understand that they're very popular in central and south America because of their football sponsorship. Outside of that I know nothing about them.

Just another 70's watch dredged up from the Wayback machine for a cash grab. Looks more like a Tissot PRX. Without the fake screws it is a PRX

I have the PRX and the Ingenieur definitely looks a lot better to me (and from the videos I saw it has better ergonomics) - obviously the PRX was a cash grab itself, but at least it was reasonably priced. Like most people I agree that the Ingenieur crazy overpriced - 12k EUR for the steel version? 15k for the titanium? I expected something like 7-8k given the price of the Mark XX. IWC are feeling way too optimistic at a time where it might become harder to push overpriced goods (given the global economic downturn).

Luxury brands are getting greedier every day.

·

Nice watch but like all IWC way overpriced. Wait for it to hit the grey market. If anyone buys this new and sells it you'll lose big time. I have owned several IWC's in the past. Resale is terrible.

·

Agreed. George has been pushing for this watch for a long time, and it was only be right he was at the launch. And I never said the watch was terrible either, but no watch is perfect and there was not one negative thing said about it. In fact the only negative things that were said were about how Gentas original design was a flop. It was clearly a promotion for IWC under the guise of a review.

I think its unrealistic to expect journalists to criticize a watch in front of the CEO of the brand and the wife of the designer while sitting in the booth for the brand itself at Watches and Wonders after having just been given special access. I don't think ANY media outlet would dare vocalize criticisms under those conditions and this reflects in the behavior of everyone there. It would be exceedingly rude. If you want an unbiased take on a product wait till everyone has had time to go back home and/or after they have received the actual products in the metal for review away from the booth in geneva.

A lot of middle brands are going to be slapped in the face this year and there will be a price correction in the market. With patience, you probably will be able to get this watch for 7/8k. Give it a 1-3yrs.

·

loved it until I saw the price. Then I laughed and carried on with my day.

This is a hype train IMO and I think the grey market price will go under retail after a while.

·

For me it's easy, I don't look at retail prices too much with watches and I don't get why people are so upset. I mean, if the watch fits me and looks good in person then I will buy it at market price from the outlet with the best offer... I prefer an official store with all the warranties that come with it but at the right discount I can do without the glass of champagne from the AD and factory warranty.

We shall see. I too think its likely these will be had at under retail in 1-2 years but I've been wrong about things like this in the past

its fine , if were wrong its not like there is hard evidence on the internet / public watch forum that others could to rub in our faces .....oh wait 😛 lol

They could have atleast gone to the extent of giving it a display caseback with a well finished movement at that price point 🙃

It has a Faraday cage, which means no display case back.

Sure that’s old anti-magnetic tech, but we’re talking about mechanical watches here. The old tech is part of the appeal.

·

This watch is going against the GP Laureoto. It’s priced competitively against that watch…which is the bargain alternative to the Royal Oak/Nautilus.

Should it be cheaper? Sure, but they are legit making a run at the big boys, rather than the expected competition of the Cartier Santos.

·

I love it, but it really is very expensive.

In AUD you can have this…

Or this…

Plus this….

Plus $5.00 for a coffee

·

Beautiful watch, but I need to experience it in person before making a decision on value. @Crawford makes a compelling argument about getting 2 great watches for the same price as this #iwc piece.

·
LuisV32

I quite like some of their models, and find that their use of materials is very interesting. The reason I've stayed away from the brand is pricing. Interesting materials only take me so far😂. But If they were to come down to let's say Tag/Omega prices I think they might get my cash.

I agree that for the money I'm shopping something different. I was looking at Hublot in the past and landed with an IWC Perpetual Calendar Chrono. The price value is so much better elsewhere for me.

Respect is one thing, and I'm willing to always appreciate it from afar, but when it comes to my money, I vote differently.

I don't think that they come down to the 3-7k range if at all. That's not something that Hublot strategies suggest. Then again, I may not be the intended market 😅

display only for now. There is a waitlist for it.
