Have you ever run into a stranger wearing the exact same watch as you?

Who here has gone about their normal day and then ran into someone wearing the EXACT same watch on their wrist?

Happened to me with a client where we were wearing the exact same Bulova while looking at a vehicle. Led to a fun little “great minds think alike” moment and they ended up purchasing the vehicle.

Anyone have their own funny or interesting story like this?

Can't say so unless you're wearing the Apple watch.

You make a fair point! I tried to like them for the purposes they can serve, but the model you buy is already obsolete after like 2 years!

Only Apple Watch

This scenario is easy.

  1. Wear a Datejust

  2. Go to a high end shopping mall

·

Does a GShock count? I feel a lot of people wear them.

G-Shocks absolutely count! I was thinking more along the lines of if you've ever run into someone with an identical watch down to the reference number. I see lots of G-Shocks everywhere I go!

Sheeesh, spitting facts.

·

People gotta start getting it together wherever you live 😂

·

Facts. I know so many people who have Apple Watches or Fit Bits but say that they can't afford an actual watch even though the Apple Watch costs like $400.

I am a firm believer in everyone should at least have one 'traditional' watch for either casual wear or maybe when they want to go out for an occasion. It doesn't even have to be fancy! Could be a $25 Casio for all I care. But alas, smart watches are a very easy sell with all of their features and benefits.

Only Apple Watch

Yeah... when I made this poll I seem to have forgotten that this would most likely be the top answer 😂

·

Nope, not even at watch meetups!

·

Considering what is in my watch collection I think the chances would be very slim.

·

Not while I was wearing the watch but I had a patient who had on the same omega seamster that I own. It is not the most popular color so it was kind of funny to see it in the wild. Also gave me a good idea of how it looked on my wrist in third person to see one on someone else

My best friend bought his son a SMP 2254.50 for his 18th as he liked mine so much. Does that count?

·

I’ve seen people with a watch I own but never when I’ve been wearing it. Closest I got is someone with the all black GMT Master II said “oh snap, sale watch” to my BLNR.

I like all like… almost 😅😬

I often try to choose something unique, so not really, no. I have seen only 1 other Vostok in the wild and it was in a case in a watch repair shop.

How do you like Vostok? Always hear about them in passing, heard some good things and not so good things.

That would be a cool coincidence.

The closest I've come to this is me wearing a Tudor P01 and someone else wearing an MN FXD Pelagos. He seemed to like my watch far more than his 🤣

You’ve got the P01?? Just something about it that makes me want to buy it everytime I see it. The price however… 😭

Only with my smartwatch and gshock. Given that my most worn watches are an obscure Orient, a jdm Casio and a microbrand that's no surprise

I like them. I think that one should have an informed and realistic view about ownership and maintenance tho. If one’s ever breaks or needs servicing, it will take more effort to seek out people willing to do that work than it will a watch that uses one of the more common Swiss or Japanese 3rd party movement, since Vostok uses in-house movements. Again, I enjoy mine, but I am also realistic about them, and so I try to be more mindful about my care of them.

Totally get it. It’s like having certain cars. I absolutely adored my last car but a fairly limited dealer network and high maintenance forced me to make sure that I took care of it as much as possible

Met a cafe owner wearing the same SMP

Yep…an Invicta Pro Diver of all watches lol. I have one that is now my dedicated travel watch since it’s robust enough for pools and beacheater while still looking like a decent watch.

Anyway, I took a trip to Panama and our Airbnb host/owner had on the exact same watch, color and all. Couldn’t help myself and brought it up to him by showing my watch as well…turns out it was his second one because he broke the crystal on his first Pro Diver. It wasn’t cost effective for him to repair it so he bought a new one 😆

Maybe I should by a Pro Diver for my next beach vacation…

Submariner in a Oil and Gas/Marine Convention. It’s almost like an entry requirement. 😂

That sounds like such a niche convention, I love it lmao

I used to enjoy slipping away during the middle afternoon hours of any work day to a courtesy seating area of the Manulife Building here in Toronto for an espresso coffee or/and a Perrier water which was an affectation that I developed when my older brother and I would sneak away to Paris for a few days to escape our regular routines. A stranger wearing work out clothing walks up to me, pulls up his sweatshirt to reveal a black dial Breitling Super Avenger. His 48mm chronograph was fitted to a black calf OEM strap with a pin buckle while my black dial watch was fitted to a Breitling folding clasp which prolongs the life any leather strap by years imo. We chatted for the entire time that I rested with my beverages. He noted that the particular model that we both had on wrist was difficult to find in Toronto but was pretty common in Boston where he bought his one spring when he ran in the marathon. That meeting took place more than 10 years ago when guys did prefer larger watches, a choice that I continue to make today. After that meeting, we ran into each other occasionally but chatted about sports, politics his antipathy for luxury and the white dial El Primero Daytona on the wrist of a salon owner who famously whiten his teeth, perhaps to match the dial of his Rolex! Watch guys are never exactly normal even a decade ago. He ranted the Daytona was a Miami fake, I knew it was 100% genuine!

48mm??? That’s a basically a tank on the wrist! Looks super cool though

lol! That was the size back in the day, I still wear it sometimes, tried to gift it to my son in law but he can’t carry it off.

The classic 42mm black Pelagos during a morning commute

The only time that ever happened to me was back when I wore an Apple Watch

Yes. It was my buddy @dudzdomasig at our 1st Manila Watch Meetup. I wasn't actually wearing my Tudor North Flag at the time but brought it along for "seeing and handling" purposes by other members.

2 of 4 known in the Ph! 🥳
