WHAT A RELEASE!

Correction: WHAT AN UTTERLY DISSAPPONTING RELEASE!

Rolex seems to have a new motto.

“Gold and diamond everything”

Incremental change used to be the key but now it’s just let’s make everything in gold, platinum and diamonds everything.

A diver would probably sink to the bottom of the ocean with a 330g solid gold seadweller and a driver would get blinded trying to time his laps on the new Daytona.

Yes yes Rolex is not what it used to be. It’s a purely luxury brand now. It’s no longer a tool watch. If you need a tool watch, look at Tudor they say.

But as a fanboy wearing his sub while typing this, it’s really disappointing.

That “Wayne Industries” GMT looks ok. Not groundbreaking but ok.

Tudor’s release on the other hand is brilliant! The BB58 GMT is what we were waiting for and the BB41 monochrome is just perfect. Yes it’s not groundbreaking as well but it’s about the INCREMENTAL CHANGES & IMPROVEMENTS. And importantly, you can actually get it.

For the money and specs, it’s a bloody solid tool.

Yes Rolex is a luxury brand but they used to make brilliant reliable tool watches.

We need that Rolex back.

I remember reading in 2019 that Rolex was going to be heading into more gold than steel watches. Heading into new branding category. I didn’t believe it. Well they were right. Sad 😔

·

That Rolex is never coming back. Ride the Tudor wave before it changes too lol.

Maybe it’s new leadership but it’s been disappointing. 🫠

Definitely riding that wave! Tudor have been killing it!

·

Disappointing considering what they could release without thinking too hard and be the talk of the watch world for the right reasons. I don't understand what they are doing. I guess they know they can do whatever they want and still be at the top, however people are getting more and more fed up with them.

·

This is great - it mean i won't be wasting money.

·

All I know is that the DeepSea in 18k yellow gold is going to be a brick…err…of gold. Not as witty as I hoped but still true. Can’t weight to see how heavy it is….see what i did there? Ok, dad jokes aside, I had hoped that one of the rumors would have been true. I really wanted to get a 41mm OP in pink. I’m on a whole exotic dial trip right now and that would have been awesome! Any one picking one of these up?

Is the new gmt black and grey in SS or WG only? I’m about to pay for the the all black bezel version on chrono24 lol but would maybe get the newer version as long as it is SS..

·

The only Rolex that caught my attention this year is the Rolex 1908 in platinum. What a beautiful piece but the price is ridiculous! Rolex is trying to go after Patek Philippe and Vacheron in the hyper luxury market . They have a long way to go.

No Milgauss??? Dammit Rolex. Bring it back with a master chronometer movement, better antimagnetic resistance and possibly a rotating bezel. What are you waiting for? I’d immediately put my name down for one.

·

Rolex seems to think that all they need to do to compete with AP, PP, VC is to add diamonds and charge the same price as the trinity. But it will be their steel models giving them 28% of the Swiss watch market not the bling models. There are just not that many drug dealers in the world...... 😁

·

The Idea of a gold Deep Sea I guess is if you’re too rich to go to the gym you can just wear this and get ripped

·

I, for one, do at least enjoy the 40mm D-D roman numerals on the 36mm D-D. But that's about it.

·

That Daytona is horrifying 🤮

·

Couldn’t agree more

·

Im really pushing the name 'Caffeine Free Coke' bezel everytime I see the Tudor 😅

·

Very confusing release to be honest. Mostly small changes or actively tacky and tasteless ones that I think will turn away a lot of traditional Rolex customers. The new 1908 models are cool, but that's about it for me

·

I didn't mind some of the Rolex releases but the Tudor BB41 monochrome made me take notice.... until I saw it was 13.6mm thicc.

I could've rationalised it for the WR but at only 200m it's gonna wear chunky and for no reason. Tudor why?

·

Rolex very disappointing, Tudor okay, but nothing amazing.

·

Well the ADs like WOS UK have been blaming poor profits and sales revenue due to lack of precious metal watches being shipped by Rolex. Guess the new push to precious metal watches is the answer to that? How about the AD fix their sales practices then and stop turning customers away with silly games. I digress… underwhelming launch to be honest. Tudor stole the show with the Diet Coke GMT. 😂

Agree that there are a lot of other great releases. This post is purely about Rolex and how underwhelming their release is

Yup, this is a great example why watch enthusiasts are better off moving the focus of the enthusiast conversation away from Rolex and focus on legit aspirational brands like JLC, Zenith, Grand Seiko, etc...

Rolex should have reined in their ADs in the beginning when they started their silly games.

I'm sorry but I have no love for ADs and their sob stories. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

There have been countless enthusiasts (especially during the post COVID era) who wanted to buy a Rolex but instead bought something else because they either couldn't get what they were looking for or just didn't want to be part of the AD shenanigans. I was one of them...I literally walked into the Omega boutique and bought my Speedy moonphase on the spot.

Gold in sports Rolex have always been a thing actually. I remember seeing so many gold and two tone gmt n submariner advertisements from the 1980s onwards just google something like Peter Brenchley rolex advert and look up the images. Some of them are solid gold Subs. And then you do get people that actually do dive with them years ago.

This guy is a badass. 🙌🏼

I had the same problem with the Pepsi BB GMT. That is 14.6mm 😅 so the new models are a welcome change for me.

Good choice on the Speedy Moonphase. Definitely agree. Rolex should rein in their ADs as it ruins their own reputation and customers’ experiences. ADs always claim to sell to end customers and enthusiasts and not flippers yet BNIB watches often end up in the grey market. The sheer lies. Either they are supplying known flippers or grey dealer pals. Pfft…

Their sob stories garner no sympathy among us watch lovers. Will not shed a tear if they go bust. Personally one of them wanted me to buy a Zenith before being considered for a Rolex. I said no and bought something considerably cheaper.

Thank you.

Yeah no sympathies for these Rollie ADs. Cry me a river.

I'm going to say something that I know will be unpopular. Monta has been running that colorway that Tudor just released and it looks better on the Skyquest. Sorry I'm not sorry.

Not unpopular, accurate, but for good reason because they’re both homages to the same watch: the Rolex GMT Master Bakelite 6542.
