I don't care, I like it.

I think I am in the minority. "This is a cheap watch or a toy or not for true watch collectors... " I absolutely love these collaboration by Swatch. Not because I get to have an Omega or a Blancpain but because it hasn't been done before. The creativity was genius.

Also I love the chase, I live in Miami so I'm lucky to have a store, I've swung by the store a few times to see if I could get one hit or miss (mostly miss). I've also gone to the stores in London and Florence where I found a Mission to Mars. I have great watches but the journey for the moonswatch got me into this hobby. For me, I can't wait for the hunt to follow!

I like them too.

Go get it

I'm not interested in buying, but it's a good effort and improvement over Moonswatch.

I hope many people enjoy it.

·

I think it looks awesome. It’s a little expensive for what you get, but is definitely a great starter watch for a young guy.

·

We can salute the initiative of swatch that pushes and makes a hype with wearing watches.

I know they aren't for everyone but it gets people to talk about watches and get to be more curious more interested in them and read about history and so on.

I think they are reaching a new audience and it gives the watch industry a boost and I'm sure we can all benifit of this in the long run.

Forcing brands to make more watches more choices for everyone to find something they prefer. I don't like this specific model but I've heard more stories lately of Blancpain in a week then in the last 10 years! And that's very fun!

The one thing I don’t like about it is the bezel, particularly the curved profile which my eye doesn’t get on with, feel it makes the bezel seem narrower than it is and therefore out of proportion; however, that is also the only issue I have with the actual BP 50 fathoms and would put me off buying that too (or rather if I had that sort of money to spend on a watch, that feature would make me look at something elsewhere).

Otherwise, I like it a lot, particularly the Indian Ocean variant. I think my favourite part are the designs on the movement, love how they look, but won’t be getting one for reason above which is just a peculiar thing I have rather than a problem with the watch.

As for “not for true collectors” it just seems like snobbery I would not pay attention to. Admittedly I’m very new to all this but to me a true watch collector is someone who likes watches and buys a watch to bring them joy. What that watch is doesn’t matter but I can see just from the pictures that these ones are going to bring a lot of joy to a lot of people.

·

All I want to know is can you fit either an ETA 2824, a Sellita 200 or a PT5000 in one. If so, I'd buy one, throw away the System 51 and replace it with another movement.

·

I am curious as to the "strategy" thinking behind the Moonswatch and Swatch Fathoms. Yes, it is to target a specific audience, but very unlikely the purists who can afford the real deal (the Omegas, Blancpains), and may not really be the younger, likely more fashionable, Swatch crowd who may not necessarily gravitate towards the nostalgic designs of watches. Perhaps the colours are to somewhat make up for that and hopefully bring the younger crowd across the line to start enjoying (buying) the established names when their income levels increase with age/success. Does make you wonder what the next collaboration will be.

I wonder if the move to to release such watches/collaborations is also partly to move the attention away from microbrands and, more likely, replicas and fakes. Although fakes are almost always to swindle someone, there are those who consider buying fakes (and replicas) that may now re-consider spending similar money on a swatch collaboration instead, which even with a "throwaway" approach, may be a better value proposition than fakes/replicas, as some are priced quite highly, despite being cheaper than the real thing.

Or are microbrands becoming a threat to established names with their ever-improving quality and designs, and much wider colour spectrum such that most watch enthusiasts have the option to buy multiple colour versions of the same/similar watch from a microbrand that it is starting to eat into the money that flows to the established brands? Watch collarborations at this price point certainly allows for the microbrand market players to reconsider their purchasing decision when they can now afford to have a brand name and multiple colour versions of it without breaking the bank.

Anyway, just my thoughts on the recent developments. An interesting time for the watch market, almost like the quartz vs. mechanical period with a sudden influx of microbrands (due in part to internet funding platforms supporting their development).

I unironically like these. A few weeks ago there was a thread about “summer watches” and I felt that a fun “summer watch” shouldn’t be too expensive. Because I still have student loans to pay and raising children aren’t cheap.

While I would love to have a ton of Zodiacs in cool colorways as summer watches, I don’t feel comfortable spending over $1000 on “limited circumstance” watch.

This is fun. This isn’t too expensive.

And you can only get so many 5KX colorways.

I can see myself rocking this on a vacation to some place sunny.

Now let’s continue this Swatch x Blancpain discourse. We need those badges.

I like anything that shakes up the watch world and gets us talking and debating. It’s a great time to be into watches. I’m not going to be getting one of these but that’s not the point. My buddy is likely getting the No Rad and I can’t wait to see it. Have a great Friday!

·

I think given the opportunity, many will buy it. If not more out of curiosity. 🤔

·

Yeah, I tire of all the haters and the people saying complete bull crap about collaborations like these "watering down" or ruining the reputation of a company. Nonsense. These are all corporations. What do corporations do? Think about product and make money. Plain and simple. We're all part of that no matter whatever sentimental/pure hearted intention we attach to companies that by and large exist in the luxury space. I'm sure marketing teams and executives saw potential for $$ and went with another collab. Makes sense. Hope everybody makes money and hope some new watch collectors are pulled into the hobby (with this just as a starting pt).

That said, I do wonder if this will have some similar impact for Blancpain in terms of sales since they aren't as well known as Omega and there isn't as much of a selling pt. or narrative as there is with the Moonwatch. I get people saying "I want the real Speedy Pro" one day after getting a taste from the Moonswatch . . . I'm not so sure I see the same with Blancpain, but I'd like to be proven wrong.

🤮

·

Meh, me? I'm holding out for the Swatch/Breguet collab, specifically something with a tourbillon! 😛

·

It is certainly a polarising move. Would they do it next with Glashuette Original? Or perhaps Breguet? Or would they do more complications with the Moonswatch / Swatch Fathoms? A skeleton version perhaps...and if this takes off, will it devalue or enhance the established brands? A positive to bring people who are not watch enthusiasts or have been sitting on the fence about buying a watch, but I do wonder whether it will devalue the brands over time if there is a strong uptake on the collborations. OR, as @SNWatchNerd commented, it might make people desire the real thing more. Hence, my curiosity on the long (or short, medium) term thinking of the Swatch group in making such an undertaking in the market.

·

I'm amused by the "enthusiasts" who ignored Swatch for decades that are now all wild eyed as they scream "get off my lawn!".

How about an affordable James Bond collab chrono? Check!

2001 "The World Is Not Enough" Swatch Chronograph

·

Nothing wrong with them as they are a gateway for new collectors and inspire interest in the hobby. Just be aware they are not especially good quality.

·

Swatch watches are what got me into collecting watches. Blancpain is my grail watch. The idea of them both being together is mind blowing. I don't have a Swatch store near me so I have to find a way to get one.

·

I like it too. I don't understand the hate these get. It's an affordable way to be able to afford an Omega/Blancpain. If it's not for you that's fine.

That being said, I see much more of a market for this line than last year's Moonswatch.

I'm especially partial to the Pacific Ocean model. The yellow with that dial looks fantastic IMO.

·

These are attractive, but I do worry about an eventually not fixable movement. I do hope they have some success. Makes me wonder if the Blancpain brand is moving to have a greater penetrance. They’ve got very few dealers here in the US.

I've worn and collected Swatch for decades and other than wearing out an occasional strap they all still work. This 1999 007 chrono still looks and works great as it approaches 25 years.

It's possible though that your hands on experience with Swatch watches differs from mine.

·

It's not cheap. It's not good value.

This is cheap.

This is good value.

Arguably, both of those watches are better than the SxBP.

It cheapens the BlancPain brand.

I fail to see the appeal of it and won't be a part of the thousands of people who will undoubtedly buy it and rave about it.

My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

·

I don’t care, I like it too.

·

Buy what you like. 👍🏼

·

I guess I’m in the minority as well. I’ve bought two MoonSwatches and gave them to my sister who collects Swatch watches. I wouldn’t mind getting a couple of the FF Swatches. I don’t mind what the Swatch group is doing with these “collaborations”. If anything, it could also jump start someone into watch collecting. YMMV

·

I hated the moonswatch...could have liked this one more but....they look thick and tacky

·

I want someone ten years from now to open a case of grail watches and then say that the Moonswatch or some other Swatch collab was their first watch.

·

The moonswatch does trump this one in looks any day. I was rabid to get a moonswatch 😂😂 I'll pick this one up if I get the opportunity

·
SNWatchNerd

Hell, I’m still fairly new to watch collecting and I’m not ashamed to have a Moonswatch bumping elbows with a Grand Seiko in the watch box. When I go to in-person watch meet-ups people are always picking up MoonSwatches and talking about how fun they are . . . Def more toxicity about them online than in the real world, I think.

·

I totally don’t hate this. And I am really amused by people who were going bonkers over MoonSwatch but now shit on this.

If anything, this is objectively prettier watch. Better strap.

Overpriced? Yes.

Are rhese collabs pointless? In my opinion yes.

Does this look like a fun watch? Actually, kinda yes. While MoonSwatch really looked like a fragile PoS.
