Thank you Tagheuer

Yes thank you for doubling the value of my original green and red formula 1 I purchased in the 80s. By the way I gave it to my son and it's still working.

So let's get to purpose of my post, in an attempt to keep up with the Swatch/omega group the reintroduce the orginal formula 1 for $1500 and in a collaboration with Kith (who). I live in Miami the site of the F1 race this weekend and no one knows who this is. There is store here but I had to look it up. I'm a big Tagheuer fan and own 5, but there is no way I'm buying a $1500 rubber watch.

What they should have done is reintroduce the orginal with only the Heuer logo and charged $700. Or here is a thought collaborate with one of there sister companies Zenith or Hublot if you want to charge that kind of money. Hay what about a Tag x Timex colab that would sell.

You got to give it to the Swatch group for innovation.

I was just in a TAG Heuer boutique this afternoon picking up my new Carrera Tourbillon Teal dial...

I asked the manager how they were doing with the "Kith Heuer" and he told me they have been selling like hotcakes. He has people coming in wanting to buy them to remind them of their youth. He has young people coming in who are fans of the Kith streetwear brand. He said he is sold out of most of the references and has been selling out of the box sets of 10.

I was completely nonplussed...someone is paying $15,000 for ten of these? 🤣

So there is no accounting for what drives consumerism. The bad news is that since this was such a great success...there will be more...

Yeah. It really doesn’t matter what they “should” have done. What they did do is make a watch (reissue) that has enough people willing to pay that price. It’s sold out most places.

I was rooting for TAG Heuer. I am perhaps one of the rare individuals who thinks that what they did after being taken by TAG, e.g. the Kirium or the SEL, are their best models. Yes, I said that and I mean it.

So by all accounts, I should love this even though I dislike collaborations and dual branding. But I don't because can't shake the feeling that a sausage-finger typo resulted in a 150€ watch being sold for 1500€. You know it's bad when a year ago Hodinkee figured it would be cheaper...

But sometimes in watches, we have our heads shoved so far up our collective crown tubes, we forget that an entry-level watch that costs $1,800 isn't really entry-level at all. That's why a modern quartz, plastic TAG Heuer Formula One that costs a few hundred bucks would be so fun for TAG, and for enthusiasts new and old.

I’d choose this one.
