Brand Loyalty

I am pretty sure that this topic has come up here in the past. But I am very interested in the opinions of the community on the topic. When you buy watches, do you stick to a brand or is variety your game? When you own a watch from a brand and you love it, do you think a) I love it! I want to own more of their watches... or b) I love it! I wanted this brand in my collection and this watch scratches that itch! On to the next brand..."

I’m a 1 watch, 1 brand, 1 type (sort of I technically have 2 divers). I think it makes you having a more interesting collection

For 20 years I only wore Cartier. I was as loyal as you could possibly be. After 20 years my financial situation changed & my eye started to wander.

In the last 4 years I've dipped my toe in many brands garden pools. I'd estimate I have bought 20+ different brands in this time. I'm a big fan of a number of them, Omega, Christopher Ward, Unimatic & others but I'm no longer loyal to any of them. If I like the look of the watch, I don't really care whose name is on the dial. The reverse being that if I don't like the look, you couldn't give it to me for free & I'd wear it.

I'm happy that my watch snobbery went beyond the closed world of Cartier, even if my bank balance is the worse for it.

I'm not brand loyal. I buy what I like. Do I more than one watch from a company? Yes. They have more than one watch I like. 😉🤯🤣

I think that is quite cool. Find a watch that you love that fulfills all your needs and stick with it. Makes perfect sense to me as a good mindset. 👍😀

I would love to be brand loyal to a VC or an Omega, but alas...

Interesting! 😀 So you broadened your horizon! Does Cartier still hold a special place im your heart because it was your first 'love' or is it just equal to the others now?

We shall call that the middle ground. I'm sure many other Crunchers will identify with your thoughts... 😉

I still have a love for Cartier, in particular the Santos, Tank Francaise & the Pasha but my love isn't as strong for these models as they once were.

I don't much like the current Santos, the size increases over the years has seen the watch lose a lot of it's elegance & beauty. I currently own a Santos 100 & I think I'll always have this watch.

I bought the new Tank Francaise & realised within a month I preferred the original model. The subtle change in dial colour to silver, actually makes reading the time more difficult. I sold it & bought a new Pasha, which has an incredible dial. I have the 41mm & if I'm honest it's probably a bit on the big side for me. I may well trade this for the Tank Americaine, which has grown in appeal to me as I have got older.

I’m fairly new to watches and it seem they have zero loyalty to the community, so meh. I’d rather aim for a watch I really love regardless of the brand. But in a crunch, I would probably avoid a certain watch if I already own one from that brand, in order to diversify.

I like your thinking! 😉🫠

A very decent guy who came from a prominent Swiss family connected to the watch industry was indirectly responsible for my lifelong love affair with Breitling, admit the love affair is one sided because the watches lose a ton of value on the re sale market not very popular with social media etc etc. doesn’t matter because the watches work for me. He represented AP, Brequet and briefly Parmigiani here in Canada but also established a string of boutiques selling mainly Breitling which he personally did not regard as even important horology just watches for the average guy.

400 watches. From multiple brands. Multiple types of watches. Big Swiss names, Japanese, German, Italian, Microbrands. You name it.

·

DIY is my favorite brand. Slapped together on the kitchen table and passed thru the time grapher.

·

No rules for most brands. However, if its a micro brand, I'll only buy one. There are so many microbrands to experience. For these, a snifter is enough.

·

I have a variety of watches. From Casio, Citizen, Spinnaker, Seiko and my priciest one, a Marathon JSAR 46mm. If I had more money, I would look at Omega. Now, I have my eye on a Long Island Greenport 39mm with a blue dial. But again, I'm only limited by my budget.

·

Started out brand loyal (Rolex), but with the shortage, looked outside the brand and have gotten some really cool additions to my collection, ie JLC Duo Reverso, Omega Speedmaster, etc. I plan to continue to expand with variety. Next few on my list are Breitling Premier, Tudor GMT Pepsi white dail, and Cartier Santos blue dial.

Really like the verity and am now really glad the Rolex shortage came about. It expanded my horological knowledge of other terrific brands.

·

If I love a brand and they have other watches I like, I will own more of them. But if I find other interesting watches I will buy them as well.

·

Can you guess my opinion??

Being able to wear a different watch a day for more than a whole year must be an interesting experience, but I suppose you don’t wear them all equally? Would like to hear your thoughts on this!

·

I’m sticking to one brand each at the moment just because I find it fun to really ask myself if I could only pick one from this brand which one would I go for

·

As long as a brand provides me with products that i like and i can justify buying, sure. But I dont buy blindly just because i like a brand.

Edit for a better awnser.

·

I am more on the side of variety. Though I have 2 or more models of the same brand in the collection. I usually search other brands when considering buying a new watch. But if a model catches me interest, I do not really put much thought on having another watch from the same brand. I will still go for it. 😉

Phwoar, those Mosers!

·

No general loyalty, maybe preference towards certain brands but I always buy what I like, no matter how many pieces from that brand I do or don't own

·

Whilst I own (and have owned) quite a few different brands, I seem to always go back to Seiko for whatever reason, maybe it’s because it was the first watch I bought as a spotty teenager and the lovely lady in Argos gave me her works discount for it cos as my dad said “he’s been working with me all summer holidays to get this watch”. Maybe it’s because it feels less snooty or homogenous than a lot of Swiss watchmaking.

·

I'm very new to the hobby so haven't really had time to become brand specific. Got a couple of what experienced collectors may refer too as "Beaters" in the £400/700 range, but I'm yet to drop anything north of a £1000+.

I'm really enjoying looking at some of the amazing pieces on here and settling in to my new hobby.

Looking at the clever, intricate, engineering that goes into these pieces makes me smile....Pure Art!

·

Whatever strikes my fancy is my rule. Now that doesn't mean only one watch per brand. 😉

·
SNWatchNerd

Yeah, since I have a 6 + 1 collection rule it would be a bit uninteresting to just lean into one brand . . . though I respect it when I see it. I'd rather just have variety and experience other things even if I might like a brand a lot in terms of design and overall perceived brand philosophy/culture.

I think it just adds a good variety to your collection rather than a vanilla 1 or 2 brands

·

I’ll wear any watch from any brand if I like it enough. I don’t really get into brands, but more so just into particular watches.
