My favorite watch is this Grammy Precisionist my wife bought me for my birthday last year. I have recorded and mixed a lot of music, and have worked in some facet of audio for over two decades, so the watch is very "me." However, I never wear the thing while I'm at work because it has no rotating bezel, thus I can't time my breaks (three each day, all of which start whenever I can fit them in, so it's hard to keep track), so it's impractical for weekday use.
That said, I'm planning on getting another Precisionist, the "Champlain," because I want to swap the movements and dials between them. Then I'll have a carbon fiber bracelet that matches my wedding ring, and I'll have a rotating bezel to time my breaks at work, all while appreciating my vinyl record dial on the daily.
I have sold 22 watches in the last six months. My collection is constantly evolving. I just try stuff on for size, and if it doesn't wow me, or the honeymoon phase ends too fast, I just let it go. I try not to hold watches on a much higher pedestal than shirts, shoes, or socks.
I currently have 12, half of which were gifts, and I will never sell a gift.
I'm not sure I could get my collection down to seven or less (let alone three), because I really, really like the ones I have left, plus I'm not averse to buying more watches. I just imposed a rule on myself late last year - "If it doesn't get worn (and it wasn't a gift), it goes." Simple as that.
My house isn't a museum, and no one's paying admission to look at my collection. I'd rather have the money, or a different watch I will actually wear. Let someone else enjoy the watches that I don't.
P.S. - I don't have a dress watch either. The only time I dress up anymore is for funerals, and how depressing would it be to have a "funeral watch"?
I built an homage to the Tag Heuer Aquaracer GMT Batman, and I've worn it most days for about two months.
I wear my Bulova Catamount Precisionist about once a week
I wear my G-Shock on weekends when I'm doing chores, kayaking, or camping.
I wear my Sea Bay Dweller mod when I'm feeling fancy
-and I wear my Grammy Precisionist when I'm out with my wife, because she bought it for me for my birthday.
