$8,000 in your pocket - what are you buying?

If you had $8,000 to spend on a watch, what would you buy? I have been saving for a speedy, but now that I have the money, I’m starting think about what else I can buy. What would you get?

Ohh. I went through this exercise a few times last year. I bought a few different Grand Seikos. But I’m not sure you’d like them. Are you wanting to buy new or used? Because many options open up with used watches at or below $8k.

A nice inexpensive watch and a nice vacation!

Rolex Explorer 36 mm.

This is my answer as well.

I think I would get a Grand Seiko Snowflake. It has been on my radar for this year.

·

Likely this...

I already have pretty much anything else I want.

I agree 100%. However, the lad probably needs to buy at least one really, really expensive watch to realise that, when you get it home... it's just a watch. There's a real law of exponential diminishing returns with watches that kicks in after a few thousand.

IMHO, I'd get the speedy. From personal experience, when I buy something else than what I initially saved for, my itch for that initial watch will still be there

Good advice!

This is exactly why I posted this. I’ve started to have ideas about buying a $2,000 watch and going on a trip with the rest. With that being said, I normally buy $500-$1000 watches and this is a once in a lifetime chance to get something really special

Life's pretty long, my friend. Unless you plan on popping off soon, you'll have many opportunities over your lifetime to save an amount of money for a big watch, car, trip, house, whatever you set your mind to. So if there's some really cool $2000 watch you'd like, and an amazing holiday seems appealing with the rest of the money, do it. The older I get, I realise how lucky I was to travel a lot when I was young. There are some travel experiences that only really suit young people. Because like I say, when you buy the big watch, you take it home... and they never tell you this in the adverts... it's just a watch. You can come to places like this and people will say they like it, and will add emojis to the post, but when you turn off the PC or close your phone, none of us exist and you just have a nice watch. If that's enough - great. But it bears thinking about. It's good that you are.

If you’ve been saving for a Speedy, go with a Speedy. Stick to your initial goal. There had to be something about the Speedy that caused you to want to start saving. My advice, don’t buy sight unseen. Go to an AD, try it on, see if it’s clicks. You’ll know right away, if it’s not a good fit or doesn’t get your rocks off…then try something different.

Oh I’ve tried it on and it fits great. What’s weird about this is that I never buy watches in this price range. I decided years to save for a speedy and now that I have all this money in my account I start looking around at what else I could buy since this may be a once in a lifetime purchases with that being said, if you asked 100 watch collectors what watch they would choose if they would only have one, omega speedy would be high on the list for most if not all. So for a once in a lifetime purchse, it’s a phenomenal choice

Totally get it man, tough decision but definitely a win-win situation.
