Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

I was browsing the dying Radio Shack online store one year, and they had a blowout sale for ZeTime Premium hybrid smartwatches. Just $60. I hadn't worn a watch in 30 years, but I thought, "What the heck. Why not. See what the fuss is all about." I asked for it for Christmas that year. By some fluke, as Radio Shack scurried to go out of business, they mailed my father two watches, even though he only paid for one, and both were defective. Both Radio Shack and MyKronoz went radio silent on my support tickets. In looking for replacement parts online, I realized that although my watch was beautiful, it was problematic already, and it was only going to get worse with time. As support would inevitably dwindle with future phone OS updates, the watch would eventually become a paperweight. I wanted something I could pass down to my step son. Something timeless. Down into the rabbit hole that is YouTube I went. "Don't buy a watch before watching this!" "10 brands I hate!" "10 brands I love!" People have strong opinions about the dumbest things! The watch community is no exception. Not really sure why I'm here. We all need hobbies. Anything to take our minds off existentialism, I guess.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

Casio F-91W

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

I have only ever purchased heavily discounted (and sometimes damaged) watches so that I could have the pleasure of fixing them myself.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Only listen to YouTubers who don't bash any brand whatsoever. Look for honest reviews of functionality before you buy. People who hate certain brands for no reason other than they're inexpensive likely aren't good people. One of the best, most accurate watches in history only costs $10. Know why you're buying what you're buying. Don't get sucked into the nonsense.

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

Bulova and Invicta.

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

I'm fascinated by the history of the Accutron. I'd like to own an Alpha II Spaceview someday. The 2017 Grammy Precisionist is honestly my favorite-looking watch ever though. I work in audio by trade, so the dial is very "me."
