First time trying a Rolex on Wrist

So, this might be a bit of a corny one so bear with me. As cliche as this sounds, for me the Rolex Submariner is THE grail. It’s the one watch I’ve always thought screamed me - my personality, my character, my style. At least, it what I always thought given everything I’ve seen through my computer because I’ve never actually seen one or tried one on in person - until yesterday when I went to my AD to take the first step of purchasing a luxury watch.

Y’all - when I say the feel of it checked every box and met the exceedingly high bar I set, I mean it CHECKED EVERY BOX AND MET THE EXCEEDINGLY HIGH BAR I SET for the watch. The wait time is around 3 years for me, which was fine since I don’t have the ability to purchase one today - but being on the waitlist and knowing what I’m working toward, I’ve made a plan and cannot wait for the day I get my hands on my own Rolex Submariner.

Here's to the Sub on your wrist earlier than expected🍻🍻

·

There is definitely a different feeling when you wear a "luxury" piece. I'm not talking about feeling different or looking different, I mean the feel of the watch itself is another level. When I first got my Breitling properly fitted I kept thinking, this metal feels so different from my "affordable" watches. It may not have been that far off but the watch felt so premium. I can't wait for you to get your sub. I know you're gonna love it.

·

They told you 3 years or you set that goal for yourself?

·

My grail too

·

No date - great pick 👍

They said the wait time is 2-3 years which happens to be good for me as well!

Actually, I’m getting the Sub Date (🙈) they just did t have one to try on! Lolol

·

Glad you enjoyed it. I agree with you on how enjoyable they are. I love my Sub Date despite all the trash talk about them it's a great watch. Good luck and don't let the wait impact your enjoyment.

·

Sub looks great on you! I’m actually surprised you were quoted up to 3 years by the AD for it, as wait times for most Rolex steel models have decreased dramatically. In any event, you can’t go wrong with this icon imo - good luck in getting your sub date 🤙❤️

·

Excellent Choice! Must have been tough getting it off your wrist…

I once had a (not for sale) Daytona on my wrist and it was difficult for me to hand it back to the dealer.

I have been on waiting lists at several places for several years for a Daytona.. and I know that call ain’t ever gona come.

Davis? Surprised of the wait time. I’m guessing you’ll get the call sooner than later.

·

Have a plan B and C for when they call. If you're on the list and they said 3 years, it may be a LOT sooner due to how the market and pieces are moving nowadays. Just a suggestion.

Hope you can enjoy one soon. Cheers!

It’s is the dive watch that inspired every other modern dive watch, the one, the only, the Rolex submariner. It’s an amazing watch brother. Keep saving and be ready to pull the trigger when they c all. It is worth it and it will serve you well for the rest of your life, then one day you can pass it on to your children/future children. Don’t be tempted by anything else stay strong and true to yourself and it will be yours.

I also never tried Sub on my wrist and it most certainly is my grail. I own Tudor and Omega so I know about the premium feel you talk about, it’s something special really. But I really look forward to that day when I put no date Sub on my wrist. It will be glorious 💪🏼

I’m in no rush!

Okay, so no problem there. I must warn you however. When you get the watch the hype will wear off and getting to know more about the better manufacturers you will realise that Rolex is NOT the be all, end all watch you feel it to be now. I have 3 in my collection and wear them only when I feel it's expected. I much more admire some other watches in my collection. Rolex is NOT haut horology. It's a workman's watch. A really good one indeed.

It’s not cliche when it happens to you. I remember that feeling too! Hope you get one soon

It’s THE workman’s watch for me. I was telling someone earlier in the week that even if I were to hit the lottery tomorrow, my first watch would always be a Rolex as opposed to some other Uber-luxury brand like a Patek or Richard Mille etc.

It’s not so much about the brand alone, but what the representation of it means. Arguably, it’s all just pretty timepieces and it comes down to preferences, but no other brands, how much better or premium-er they might be appeals to me more than a Rollie.

Yessir. Glad to see a KY man in the wild.

I’m in no rush. 3 years will work well for making sure I’m able to get the timepiece without going into debt! Lolol

That being said - I appreciate the words of wisdom. I’m not looking for the be all end all, one watch collection. I’d be lying to myself if I said I’d be able to pull that off. On a very practical level, I can’t justify spending more than the retail price for a Sub on a watch - so part of it is finally getting to a point where I don’t feel the pull of pricey watches. (Which I think attaining the sub will do for me).

🍻may the waitlist be short and your finances healthy. I know mine sure aren’t 🫣

Be careful what you wish for….its just as likely scratching that itch will just pop up many more consecutive itches! 😀

That is an awesome watch, and you are absolutely right about putting on a luxury watch and having it feel so right. I wish for you that your finances mesh perfectly with that call from the AD. I’m also with most here in believing it will come sooner rather than later. Cheers 🍻

Sure Rolex is not „haut horology“ (sic), but if you call a 10.000€ Luxury item a workman’s watch, you must have lost touch with reality.

I picked mine up end of 2021. It's a true staple in my collection and it's a definite keeper!

The Submariner is the original and the most Iconic, as opposed to the Submariner Date.

I hope you get your's ASAP! You may even get a chocolate too, as I did! 🙏👌

·

Bought my first Sub when you could just walk in and buy it....oh what a time to be alive.Waited 2 years for my blue OP

I had the same feeling recently. And no, I don't think it will fade. The reason is the clasp. It's the most comfortable bracelet I've ever worn! I adjust 3-4 times a day. I can dial down to that exact feeling. It's awesome 👍😎.

·

I was in your situation around 2017. Read about the Submariner, strolled through the history and pictures online then when I tried it on I thought it was perfect. I was on mission to get one after that day.

Unfortunately the waitlist option didn’t pan out (I might even still be on it 😂). So I went grey and bought a 2018 114060 Submariner in excellent condition in 2020. It’s still my favourite watch and one I plan on keeping for a long time.

Good luck with your plan and wait. It will all be worth it, trust me 😀.

I’ve got mine on today funnily enough…

It's a tool watch which is a workman's watch. I can't make it different for fanboys who see mysticism that isn't there. Make a poll and find out. Don't attack me on well-established and accepted truth's. This is not that kind of forum.

A tool? Sure. That’s why they sell it at the jeweler’s 🙄
