World's Most Exciting Watch Brand...?

Bruce Williams just posted his opinion in a new video, where he says that Christopher Ward is currently the most exciting brand, based on its most recent offerings including the Bel Canto, the twelve and the C1 Moonohase:

I have to admit, that's not a bad argument. So what's yours? Is Christopher Ward the most exciting watch brand at the moment?

I think there's some merit to that claim although I'd say it's more accurate to say they are the most ambitious watch brand at this time. It is refreshing to see a watch brand continually releasing new models that aren't just a rehash of a previous piece.

·

I can see why, but not for me.

·

I'd say they're definitely in the shortlist for that title.

To me the pattern on the Twelve lacks subtlety, but it's eye catching and has caught the imagination, and the Bel Canto I find 110% ugly, but I'm somewhat in awe of the engineering that's behind the movement.

I'm keeping a space in my box for a CW, they just haven't made the right one for me yet.

I really like all 3 of those watches, but not enough to open up my wallet to buy one. I can definitely understand their appeal, and agree that they are an extremely interesting brand doing wonderful things, they just aren't for me.

Totally agree with this. I want to see what they do next but I are not in any way compelled to buy one and I just really don’t like the brand name. I always lust after the full watch. People are like wow the 12 looks like the zenith defy! Alright cool I’ll go get one of those then

Why do I always read his name as Bruce Willis in my head..

Well sure, for about 7-10x the price.

Used or grey more like 4-5 but it’s that much more watch and it will retain almaot all of its value at that price if you buy right. At least in my eyes.

That's likely true, I agree. But at the same time, then we're not really comparing like to like: if we're buying used zenith, then used CW likely goes down too, and then it would generally retain the value of purchase (give or take) and we're back to the price differential.

I totally agree: zenith is going to be a better watch overall, but then that's the argument for any upgrade: at that point, why bother going for the zenith when you get get the Czapek Antarctique for another 3x the price of the Zenith (I personally see more of that in the design of the twelve) and get superior value retention and quality? There's always something better by some measure if we spend more, but to me the argument is, is the watch compelling at the price point? Not to say that CW definitely is, but I think that it's unfair to compare two completely different price points and not expect that the more expensive proposition would likely come out ahead.

No i definitely get your point of view but then I’d rather get a prx for below the price of the CW as it’s more of an established brand. I am just not too crazy about Chris Ward but that’s ok because I’m sure I like stuff others don’t as well

No doubt at all! I've always been impressed with the brand for the value that they provide, but I also think that they're 1-2 steps away from really being next-level. Well, except for the Bel Canto. I ordered that shit like whoa 😅

I’ll admit it is a very cool watch

I think these 3 watches are exciting, and I guess on the back of that statement I don’t immediately think of another large brand doing things that ‘interesting’ this past year. The Twelve is the only one I’d consider owning of the three named but I do think that even their more pedestrian offerings are mostly great. Some could be fairly described as derivative but they always add a bit of their own flavor. The Sealander, Trident, Aquitaine lines all look great and feel very nice. The prices tend to feel fair and obtainable to the masses.

I think CW is a brand making a lot of very nice watches and a few of them are particularly unique. I guess that is sort of exciting…

What's funny is when it first came out, I thought "oh wow, that's awesome. Just not for me "

Then the green dial dropped and I thought "that's gorgeous. It wouldn't hurt to just take a little peek at the sales page.." Sold out. Oh well. Wasn't meant to be.

Then they released the standard colors. Yeah, screw that, I beat on the purchase button like it owed me money 🤣

How much do these go for new anyway?

·

There overall selection of watches is outstanding, great quality for the price also

I have two in my collection and more to come eventually for sure 👍

CW is up there for sure. Farer is also on my shortlist. Both brands really speak to me from a design language perspective. Much more than the big actors in the industry.

Also like Farer but they keep showing different rubber strap or bracelet configurations on Instagram that are not available for purchase without adding them as extras.

·

I'm a huge CW fanboy, but none of the three watches that are mentioned in the video do anything for me at all.

I don't think there is a single brand that is "exciting" to all, or even most of the watch buying public, let alone us weirdos that are into watches. People go crazy over Ming watches, and I find them pretty "meh", same for Rolex, and a host of other brands that "everybody" loves.

·

As in all things, that depends entirely on your point of view or something, something, dark side.

TBH, I'm quite liking the new stuff that Sangin, Weiss, and Nodus are putting out.

Sangin in particular just dropped their new Kinetic II Ti collab with GBRS. And while maybe not earth shattering, it's got a faraday cage, regulated in house, TI, dual use bezel, etc.

But then again I'm from the US, so might be biased.

·

I wish the bel canto was more readily available perhaps one day it might be

·

My two cents : a Christopher Ward watch is so much more beautiful without CW logo on its dial 😜

·

Too many watches out there for me to have an opinion!

·

The models I like aren't these. I'm really looking to buy C63 Sealander and/or C65 Dune on white sand dial. Bel Canto is interesting, but not for me.

I like the logo. Small and clean.

·

Everybody is entitled to an opinion. 😉

CW is interesting but most exciting?

·

I own the Sandhurst which is an excellent piece for the money and the quality far outweighs the price point. However, there's just something about the brand which I haven't connected with yet. It's not about the logo either; I happen to like the twin flags. Perhaps it's lack of history/provenance, who knows. What I do know is that a brand has to start somewhere and they seem to be doing all the right things to be one that will be around for many years to come.

·

If I could walk into a boutique would look at the moonphase for the bold design, maybe!

·

I have never seen Lorier put a foot wrong. They’d be my choice for microbrand.

·

All 3 of those watches are on my wishlist. The Twelve is the one I’m most likely to pull the trigger on. I’ve loved my Casio Tiffany as a change of pace / pop of color, but want to upgrade to a nicer model as my collection expands.

I agree. I've got the Bel Canto on order, and I'm a fan of the twelve. I like the moonphase a lot, but as a dress-style watch I'd prefer it to be both thinner and smaller. The twelve is excellent, but for my wrist the 36 is the better choice yet I really would want the titanium model, which means that for now, they both slightly miss the mark for me. Still, CW is doing some very exciting things and have few if any peers at the price point.
